Hans Christian Andersen's The Wild Swans (Cartoon Classics 1964 dub)

This is one of 3 dubbed versions of a Soviet cartoon from 1962 ➡️ www.imdb.com/t...
According to IMDB, "This film has no less than three different English versions, each of which recut the film and/or do soundtrack modifications."
"The first English release in 1964 was done by CCM Films under the banner CARTOON CLASSICS, INC., with ADR Script and direction by Bernard Evslin. This version rearranges shots from the movie and adds narration in scenes where there originally weren't any, to the point where they drown out some of the musical numbers."
"The second English release was done in 1991 by Kidpix and released on video by Just For Kids. This version replaces the songs with rock-and-roll/pop style songs from the music group Bullets."
"The third release was done in 1996 by Films by Jove, which rearranges scenes and totally rebus the music score with a new one provided by Thomas Chase and Steve Rucker, as well as all new songs by Rucker, Chase, and Pamela Phillips Oland. This version also includes big-name talent such as Carthy Moriarty, Danielle Brisebois, Jo Beth Williams, and James Coburn. This episode was briefly released on DVD by Image Entertainment."

Having seen the original and a different dub, this is in many ways the most butchered version... but also, the all-around best. These people knew what they were doing.

I've seen this same animation for the snow queen and it's absolutely one of my favourite movies! What is the original language if not English? I always thought the voices seemed a bit "off" although didn't put me off because of such incredible animation and story telling ❤️

@@emmanitamuscaria2104 Russian, of all things. ("Of all things" because I recall a Cambodian dragon fable about the cycle of tyranny on either this VHS or the accompanying one featuring Perrault's Beauty and the Beast. That may not have been a Russian production. But this definitely was.)

I use to watch this a few times as a kid and today I saw an illustration/artwork that triggered flashes of scenes from this and I could not think of what it was called or what it was about. I kept mentally searching and more parts came back in flashes and I could finally put enough together to google: children morphing into swans. And found it! So excited.

Yeah, that’s super dumb, I’ve no idea who translated it like this. In the original they say: «Приказ короля! Преступную королевскую невесту бросить в темницу! Приказ короля! Приковать к стене, кормить одним хлебом, вместо подстилки дать ей её крапиву! Приказ короля! Завтра сжечь её на городской площади! Так приказал король!», which means «The King's order! Throw the criminal royal bride into the dungeon! The King's order! Chain her to the wall, feed her only bread, give her her nettles instead of bedding! The King's order! Burn it in the town square tomorrow! The King ordered it!» So, no straw or gasoline, just bread, and that is just to show her that she’s not to be treated like king’s bride anymore, but only like a witch and a prisoner.

This is a VHS I remember from my youth. At the end, there was a story called The Woodcutter's Wish - basically, woodcutter gets Wish spell from D&D, uses it to court princess, princess's evil advisor tries and fails to use it to his advantage. And there was a companion VHS labeled Charles Perrault, containing Beauty and the Beast and - here's what I really want to see - a crazy dragon-slaying myth which, to my memory, is metaphorical for the cycle of tyranny. Hard to believe that last is of Soviet make, but anyway, it was totally packaged by these VidAmerica people and if there's any way you could post that, I would love it.

I'd kill for the original video of this that I grew up with. This is not only different audio-its been cut apart and had scenes switched around.

The Shirley Temple Storybook show did a version of this story(but there were only three swan princes in that version).A few years later when I was in third grade,my teacher read it to the class.I later read the story in the second volume of a three volume series The Family Treasury of Children's Stories.

Why did they add so much author's text? As if it were impossible to understand the meaning without it. In the original there are only dialogs. And they also excluded the king's aria - the most beautiful cartoon love song according to my child's memories. 42 : 10 Дикие лебеди (по мотивам сказки Г.Х.Андерсена)

It's weird when it's not in Russian... No seriously.. Weird.. also for all those people who commenting that the witch looks like a clown? It's was made on purpose. It looks like the Snow Queen. It's art.

The English versions are cut and wrongly translated at times. I recommend watching the originals with subtitles. And I have to say, when I look back at my childhood, growing up in the 90s, Soviet cartoons brought me so much joy. But some of them have impacted me deeply. I was a happy kid, but I remember feeling deep anguish over the Little Mermaid, the Wild Swans, the Snow Queen, and the Ugly Duckling. Come to find out, its from the same author. Its too bad Hans was a pederast.

You have missed several generations of Soyuzmultfilm products. Alas, this is the result of the cold war of old farting politicians ( like McCain ) between the Western and Eastern world.

I feel obligated to mention that isn’t in the original Russian film. There’s barely any narration and it’s mostly show don’t tell.
