That is just the majority mindset of if a person is able to reach a high note, he/she is an incredible singer, imo. It annoys me sometimes as there are more to a good vocalist than just hitting highnotes lol.

Korean love ballads, not exclusively the high notes. Plus KJK is the one who chose his songs most of the time. If I can easily hit high notes naturally i would go for song in the high-pitched range most of the time. That's a good selling point.

funny thing about the song "Loveable" (the one he went in wrong lol). the song writer wrote the song for a female singer, but she think its too high n hard to sing also doesn't like the style so she passed. and KJK picked the song out of expect and actually made it even cuter lol surprised everyone. the song was so popular in Korea during the time KJK end up wining all three major TV stations' yearly awards. He was in a pop group called Turbo. the agency at the time was abusing them, even though the group's albums all sold over a million copies, when the unfair contract ended KJK finally could leave the agency, he had only fame but no money at all. the boss of that dark agency even put the word out forbidding everyone to give him songs, wanna destroy him. KJK was under so much pressure even the new agency abandoned him. one night he was drunk he phone the former boss, bagged him to stop killing him. the boss left the phone on and talked to the people on the side, said hes gonna see KJK dead. but finally someone in the industry had sympathy for JK, helped him change path from pop singer to a balled singer, and gave him a song to practice. that song is "A Man". KJK published the song as his single, and with that song he finally stand his ground. after that, many agency wanna sign him with millions of money, he choose the person who helped him, and only took 1 KRW as gesture. he once said because there are people want him out of the industry, so he had to survive no matter what. his life is really interesting with many dramatic high and low, he even got gang invitation in his youth lol i wish he would write a autobiography or something... BTW, my personal favor from him top 3 are "forget me not", "love forever", and "as a man" (not "a man", different song).

KJK has such a soulful and majestic voice, though his songs may not have husky tones like other singers but his unique voice is bliss for papitus fans ❤️

For information, Kim Jong Kook, is now more famous as a MC, he is on a lot of variety show (Main show : Running man). He is the one and only male solo singer who got Daesang (Grand prize) from both music industry and entertainment industry along side with Lee Hyo Ri ( the one and only female artist who achieve that title like him) He began his career as a duo "TURBO". You should look for his famous song with this group "Black cat nero".

You forgot to add a thing that KJK is second and the last person who got 3 daesang in music industry from 3 station (sbs, kbs, mbc) in a year. It happened in 2005 The first person is cho yong pil who got in 1986

He kept saying Gym Jonggook bc he's known to be this massive gym head (he's RIPPED) and his youtube channel is basically him just working out and torturing other korean celebrities in the gym. He's pretty BELOVED in korea as he's been in front of the camera since 1997 and his early years were REALLY hard for him (his original company were run by actual gangsters and basically were extorting/abusing him). He's such a gym freak bc he suffers from pretty severe scoliosis. His original group was a group named TURBO. He's an original cast member of the show Running Man which is the longest running variety show in korea.

He said it in an interview I think, he's been singing in high notes for such a long time that he find it hard now to sing in lower tone.

There's a story behind his voice. When he was younger, the mosquito repellant they had back then had a straw. So he thought that it was a juice box and ingested some of the repellant. He almost died from it, but thankfully he didn't and came back with a beautiful voice for all of us to listen to.

I'm an old fan of Kim Jong-kook, and thank you for analyzing it like this first. In Korea, numerous vocal trainers analyze many singers, but there is no one who analyzes Kim Jong-guk. Although he is a famous singer in Korea, he sings with a unique tone and natural voice, not a singer who uses various singing methods, so I don't think he's suitable for analysis. I prefer the mid-tone range to his high-pitched range. 17:30. These are the parts. The sound itself shows his wonderful tone, but strangely, the beauty disappears in the high-pitched range. I didn't know the exact reason, but I found out why it sounded like that after looking at the 22:43 analysis. What I'm curious about is whether this is the only way to make a sound in high notes or if it seems to be trying to express it like this in high notes. 30:24 I think I decided that I should sing it like this because I had a great success in this style when I was a solo. I sometimes miss the time when I used to sing it cool and sharp. I think it's possible now, but it's too bad.

I agree his debut songs are better. It seems to be a trend with veteran 10yr+ korean singers where they try to switch it up trying to adapt to the newer generation but ends up being not as effective.

노래는 말할 때 소리 -> 발성 -> 노래. 저게 아니라 김종국님처럼 소리를 높게 시작하면 소리 공간이 좁고, 강약 표현이 안 되고 "모기 소리"처럼 나온다.
