Also yes Sophia took Feis breath attack head on and she took no damage. In the light novels Shun also mentions that she was un scathed and based on the demon lords conversation with her seems that she allowed Shun to get away as it is a part of their plan but we have to wait and see

Kumoko in the LN/manga appraised the skills that Sophia had and that she didn't knew about, but she didn't do it here. No spoilers, here's the results of Kumoko's appraisal of the skill/titles/race in the LN : *Race Vampire : A ruler of the night, who lives by sucking the blood of others. Members of this race are very strong but also suffer many weaknesses. Many Vampires originially belonged to another race and take on the characteristics of their primary race. Purebreads who were born as vampires are known as Progenitors.* (It's saying that Human/Vampire, Demon/Vampire, etc/Vampire exist) *Title [Vampire] : Gives the skills [HP-Auto Recovery LV1], [Night vision LV1]. Requirement for acquisition : Having the skill [Vampire]. Effects : Add Vampire to the holder's species. Explanation: A title awarded to one who had become a vampire.* *Title [Progenitor] : Gives the skill [Undying Body LV1], [Five Senses Enhacement LV1]. Explanation : A title awarded to a progenitor of vampire.* (Basically she's a vampire without the weaknesses/disavantages, like being vulnerable to the sun, silver, garlic, the need to drinking blood and that kind of things. Also she has a reflection unlike regular vampires, that was hinted quite a bit when you look back to every scene she appeared before. *Skill [Undying Body LV1] : Increase resistance to all attributes except for Fire, Light and Rot. Once per day, the holder can survive any fatal attack with 1hp.* The skill [Vampire LV1] was not appraised, but it allows to use Vampire skills/spells but it's pretty useless at LV1. Think of any special thing that a vampire can do in any other media, it's probably a thing they can do once they level this thing up.

I heard the human part of this episode was outsourced to another studio because of time issue. There are some non-japanese names in the credits.

I'm watching these reactions, waiting to see if anyone realizes that: 1. We've seen Merazophis in a previous episode. 2. Sophia had a name that her parents didn't know about, while Kumoko is still listed as 'Unnamed'. 3. Sophia started out with 75,000 skill points, while Kumoko started with just 100.

"Why didn't she eat the elves?" I agree. Unforgivable plot hole from the anime, it's ruined forever. "They explained their plan in front of all those guards". Obviously, they chose the guards that were loyal to them above all. And maybe brainwash a couple of others. "How powerful is Shun?" Well as the hero and a "genius", for a human he's strong obviously. But having some rare skill that allowed him to save Katia isn't necessarily an indication of extreme strength. Given that the Demon lord has already called Shun Yamada (his previous life name), what is so strange that she would call him that in her conversation with Sophia?

Shun inherited the title of Hero after his brother died. And unlike his brother, who trained from an early age to defend the kingdom, Shun only just started. Plus, according to the elf who frustratingly refuses to divulge any information, she encouraged him to avoid gaining any skills or experience points because "it's dangerous" or some shit like that.

@@Nyrufa No, it's bad for long term growth according to the system logic. First training let you increase your stats and skills, and naturally the training is more effective when you push yourself to your limits, which is easier to do when you have 30 in all stats rather than 1000 in all stats. In addition, if you don't have to regularly fight for your life and hunt for your food, you can use your time, HP, SP and MP to acquire and level up skills rather than having to keep them in reserve for the fight. Finally the higher tier of stats increase skill give additional stats per level up, which isn't retroactive, so levelling those skills to that point before levelling is naturally preferable. Levels actually mean very little, especially for humans who don't have evolutions (and monster stats growth tends to be better, at least when they evolve out of their initial species). Going full "only start levelling after I max my stats increase skills" is often unpractical and unreasonable, but levelling too fast mean being weaker than you could have been for your level. On Kumoko, she's so strong not just because of her constant levelling, but because of the insane stats and skill training she has been doing since about after the Monke fight. She couldn't have afforded to care about the long term growth over her immediate survival anyway, but in a hypothetical world where she could, she would have ended up being a lot more powerful.

@@bki9840 Levels can mean a lot, if you have the skills that increase your stats when you level up. Imagine if someone maxed out all those skills before they gained even a single level......

Thoughts (no spoilers) 1. Baby Sophia is so cuuuuute ~* 2. Kumoko likes the hotties... for dinner! 3. Merazophis looks so young... Also, Sophia's dad is another hottie. 4. Sophia can block Appraisal. Hm... I wonder who taught her that ? 5. Ninja dude is sus. 6. Kumoko's transition from menacing Nightmare to cute li'l spider was 👌. All her SD-faces are meme-worthy, really, especially Cowboy Kumoko and Prince Kumoko. 7. Shun can raise the dead, now, huh? Or at least heal people that are otherwise past saving. 8. Fei's Light Wyrm form is introduced! OK, the cgi was a bit wonky, but hoping they improve on it in future episodes. 9. Re: Elves kidnapping babies. Oka did say that she had "collected" 11 other reincarnations. She didn't specify "how". * Also, baby Sophia gets 75,000 starting skill points and Kumoko got 100? No wonder she's mad about reincarnation discrimination. And Sophia's Magic stats are way higher than Kumoko's starting stats. PS Sophia mentioned receiving orders from her "Goshujin-sama" (Master) not to go after Oka, but Crunchyroll translation left out that small detail from the subs.

Jokes aside, Oka pretty much turned a blind eye to how the elves operate. Sure, she may have been kept in the dark, especially at the start, but there's no way that she wouldn't have known what they were doing after the fact, especially considering how much she interacted with other nations while keeping an eye on other reincarnations that were, uh, too "troublesome" to relocate. Such as Shun, Katia, Hugo, Yuri, etc.

@@Vasharan Do we know if the elves using weapons while kidnapping the kids (presumably to merc he parents?) here are the Cyborg elves, or the treehugger sham organization elves (the one Oka is a part of, she doesn't know about the other Elves that are less treehuggy)? Them being Cyborg Elves might explain why our grill didn't nom on their corpses, despite HATING wasting food.

@@skebaba918 Spoiler Unknown. The squad of elves is an anime addition. In the LN Kumoko only sees 1 elf before the big showdown and he wasn't around when Kumoko wiped out the bandit base so we don't know about him. I doubt they were augmented since Poti assumed this would be a basic kidnapping job.

Wait, Live reading? Count me in. On why Sophia can be in the sun. She has the "progenitor" title as a "reincarnation bonus". Meaning she's a true vampire or an 'original' vampire and as such she has all of the benefits, but none of the drawbacks of being a vampire.

In this world, Vampires are able to be out in the sun, but it burns through their SP at an accelerated rate, and just like with Araba: if you run out of SP you die, or in their case burst into flames.

This episode was really good. Also without spoiling anything, they’ve shifted the plot’s chronological order from the LN... but only a little bit. I’m curious to see what effect, if any, that this has on the anime. Also I’m glad that you’re starting to read the LN’s, they give the human characters more development, namely Shun and Katia, so you should be able to enjoy them even more.

I wanted to point something out regarding when Kumoko says, "Maybe it's written 'Sophia Keren' but pronounced 'Negishi Shouko'": manga and light novels often do this thing (especially for chuunibyou "special moves") where they write a word or phrase in kanji but put an entirely different reading with it. (It's common to include phonetic readings for kanji already because the young audience isn't going to necessarily be familiar with every kanji yet.) Since Kumoko's originally Japanese, she'd be familiar with this "written one way, pronounced another" system.

Everyone: reacting to Kumo desu Joe: overreacting to Kumo desu I mean, that's me when I'm watching it

This is proof that Spooky (Negishi Shouko) became a human vampire (Sopiha Keren). She is able to be out in the light because of the progenitor skill. Progenitor: As a pure-blood she has none of the weaknesses of being a vampire, being able to go out into the sun and not needing to regularly drink blood. Sue and most of the guards are in the know or brainwashed by Hugo. How does a baby have 75000 skill points when Kumoko has 100 after birth?

@@dinahbarnizo1389 No it's because VOLUME 10 SPOILERS her Soul is that of a spider's + a tiny fragment of D's own Soul to fake the Energy Signature (as is the intended purpose of Shiraori to begin with). So a spider's Soul is only enough energy for like 100 points or w/e. This is also the reason she is Nameless, whereas Wisdom shows Sophia's OG name Negishi Shouko as well, because that's her name pre-Isekai; since Shiraori has always been a spider, she obviously WOULDN'T have a previous name, hence Nameless, since she wasn't even born to Humans or Demons, so there was nobody to name her either, and monsters generally don't give a fuck, especially mookmaker types like Taratects.

Every time you ask if a character works for our spider girl, I am so tempted to spoil it for you. I will resist, but it truly hurts not to tell you. Seeing your reaction would be priceless.

And that is how humans see Kumoko. Sometimes a terrifying powerful monster, sometimes a holy savior and sometimes a total goofball (or all the 3). From the human side things escalated quickly, feathery Fey is really nice also a little spoiler Should be in a few episodes were Kumoko reaches baby Sophia town, and there's a very beatiful scene were we'll love her

Elves didn't just plan on capturing the Sophias, they planned on murdering everyone else there. (That much was shown on screen) /// Heavy SPOILERS reveal major plotpoints /// /// This is about how the elves factor in everything in the plot /// The elves at that point were aware of the reincarnator and worked hard on the background with Oka's ability (since her being a reincarnator was exposed at birth) to track down and "rescue" the other reincarnators. Said rescue is basically to kidnap any reincarnator that isn't from a prominent central family to a big nation, while slaughtering all relatives to prevent a future actual rescue, execute any reincarnator that was birthed as a problematic specie(who was born as a monster specie). If you weren't under the protection of a major nation, either you got kidnapped and put in an interment camp by the elves for your so called protection (the excuse that Oka's ended up believing) without the possibility to become stronger so you'll be easy to keep locked up, or they ended killing you themselves if they deemed you to be born as something that was problematic to keep. It's basically why despite there being many reincarnator, so few of them standout or even appear at all, and why most of them are human (since most of the non-human were killed off). Oka/Fillimos wasn't aware, but her sending the elves to help the reincarnators caused many of them to actually be killed by the elves themselves. For the major nation the elves went the more subtle approach, by infiltrating, indoctrinating and even replacing people's own mind and soul to get more influence within it, which ended causing the current bloodshed as a mean to purge by the rest of the human nations, church and by the demon lord's who came to a temporary truce in order to get rid of the elves that both sides deemed even worst than evil and the people that were under their influence. About Leston's role in the elves plan, was that since he is indoctrinated (believing the elves are divine being seeking true world peace), he's been instrumental at getting the elves infiltrating faster his own country increasing the bloodshed needed to uproot the elves from his home. And now Oka and Leston are trying to serve the elves a few more reincarnators on a silver plater. Also Potimas is still alive that was only one of his many, MANY clones and since most of his specie are basically also had their soul replaced by a copy of Potimas's that guy is unfortunately still fine despite the whole world coming down on him to put his many heads on a spike for everything he has done. He is the progenitor of the elves, he changed himself into what we know the elves as (Human -> Elf), using the knowledge he gained from experimenting on his daughter that was already born, transforming her into a human/spider hybrid resulting in the being we currently know as the Demon Lord the progenitor of the Taratect (she'd like nothing better than kill the bastard herself). Basically the Taratect are children of said first daughter meaning that Kumoko and Fillimos are basically relatives even if distantly. Potimas is also the one responsible for giving the idea to the former demon lord and Julius hero's predecessor to unite and launch an energy attack against one of this world gods (using advantage of the hero ability to use the world own energy reserve to match or surpass that of his opponent (which resulted in depleting way faster the world energy reserve needed to sustain the world)), an attack who missed the target and ended up causing the school explosion back on earth. Potimas is legitimately the worst asshole in that world history. PS: Hugo is just there having a blast, he is not aware of anything, since his reincarnation he just believed everything as a dream/nightmare he couldn't wake from, hence why he just goes ballistic as he still hasn't realized it was reality so he might as well do whatever (his only friend that could maybe have snapped him out was killed by the elves at an early age). He's just raising some hell in the middle of all that while being directed toward the elves and the people that cooperated with them.

At this point, rewatching from ep.1 is highly encouraged

Also yes, both Hugo and Oka use Sophia's name in the future.

In the LN, Katja got the parallel wills skills which gave her another personality that wasn't brainwashed. This one then sabotaged her fire-spell which then exploded and killed her. Katja/Karnata decided that the part that was controlled and killed was her former male part. From now on, she is a full-on woman (and be honest with her feelings).

I don't know if you noticed, but Kumoko was able to understand the elves and the humans this episode. I think that's a bit of a plothole in the anime. xD But in the LN, these scenes occured a bit later after Kumoko learned the isekai language. I guess we can just assume she learned the language off screen in the anime.

9:35 Soldiers' loyalty lies with whoever pays them. All the guys in that room were most likely Cylus's personal retinue, so their loyalty lies with him. This is a common theme even in IRL medieval period.

I loved this episode and I loved the episode of kumodesu, people are always forgetting about how the anime of kumodesu is never gonna be as good as the LN and call it bad but I genuinely think that this anime has more emotions and stakes than most other animes. Also congrats on 1k and keep up the amazing work! Also I liked the Kumoko stuff more than the Shun stuff :)

I think it's more or less like in Dracula. The count walks in daylight (though prefers not to) and can pass for a human - while his vampire spawn sleep in dungeons and cementaries and only emerge to hunt. The 'progenitor' thing makes her a boss vampire.

One thing they didn't explain in anime. Katia splin her consciousness into two personalities- one is his old self kanata and other his present katia. And believed it was Kanata his old self who was brainwashed not Katia. That's how she regained control and stabbed herself. And the male personality ceased to exist. Thought she still has her past memories. From this point she accepted herself as a girl completely. And you can look forward to Katia x Shun shipping. The flag has already been raised 😂

Hey joe great reaction! I also want to mention something about how you used to think kumo-ko was the demon lord. So when those people commented down your write but your also wrong might have been true in a literal perspective because if you didn’t know, kumoko means female spider, which could be seen as the demon lord is a kumoko (female spider) but not kumoko (the character)

The progenitor title gives her immunity to vampire weaknesses.

Since Sophia is a Progenitor Vampire (AKA being born a vampire), she is completely immune to Sun and all negative effects or cons of being a vampire are negated.

Progenitor makes her immune to cliche vampire weaknesses

Sophia has Negishi (her name) in her stats. Kumoko is nameless. Anyway, core 1: "everyone is kumoko" Core 2: "everyone is working for kumoko"

Sophia can survive in the sun because she's a *human vampire* not just a vampire.

Oh God, this episode went hard on the 90's animation feel. Pretty sure there were less frames this episode than there would've been panels in the manga chapters...

MASSIVE SPOILER Alert! Like, about 200 chapters ahead spoiler. You've been warned. Kumoko actually is THREE beings. 1) the spider girl we all love. 2) the demon Lord who had merged with one of kumoko's parallel mind, namely the body brain. 3) Administrator D. - this is a BIT complicated. Kumoko as the audience knows her is supposedly the reincarnated student Wakaba Hiiro. But technically, she is and also not. Because the truth is that Wakaba Hiiro was the personality created by Administrator D as a vessel to slack off and escape her duties as an administrator of the world in Kumoko's reality. when the explosion that killed all the students and the teacher occured, in order to maintain the facade and not get caught by her peers, admin D merged a portion of her own soul (containing the memories of Wakaba Hiiro) with a spider which was in the classroom when the explosion occurred, then reincarnated that merged soul along with all the students into the new reality. the spider, by the way, was the pet of the classroom after their teacher rescued it from one of the students who saw it and tried to kill it, which is PROBABLY on of the reasons why though kumoko doesn't seem to value human life much, she values the life of her teacher.

The still shots really bothered me. It's a pet peeve of mine when people stand around talking leisurely in the middle of a chaotic battle and none of the enemies take advantage of it, and this episode was rife with that! To be honest I've been waiting for this episode for a long time so I think I hyped it up a lot in my head. They made a lot of small changes from the LN and I honestly can't say I liked any of the changes. The worst non-spoiler one was Kumoko listening in on the elves. What the heck? She doesn't speak Isekai, how did she understand what they were saying???

It’s because they shuffled the order with Mother. In the LN, the parallel minds are the ones who hate elves and force Kumoko to get involved, but now they’re gone fighting so it’s creating plot holes. I hope it doesn’t mess things up even more down the line

@@inamib.9786 Borderline spoilers, so I'm going to tag it. Even worse, the whole thing with the elves hadn't happened yet. She killed the bandits and felt good about protecting a reincarnation and being a force for justice and so on. That was it. She only learned about the deeper conspiracy much later, and part of what made it so great was watching her slowly piece it together without knowing the language.

This episode is entirely different from the LN SPOILERS FOR HOW IT ACTUALLY WENT . . . . after meeting and escaping the demon lord and defeating mother she gets here parallel minds back except body brain then meets Sophia the vampire but runs away WITH a bandit body because her parallel minds said it was a waste of food even though she didn't want to look bad in front of the vampire's family

I think of all the reactions I watch, you may have the best theories. You keep hitting things on the head then change your mind, but have good train of thought when you are coming up with things.

Want to bring your attention to what Sophia said when she brought Potimas' head, she said MASTER(Goshujin Sama) told her not to go after Oka, then later refers to the Demon Lord as DEMON LORD(Maou Sama).

No spoiler just explanation Shun got a virtue skill like patience and wisdom wich allowed him to redirect katia, hugo does get the lust skill and in the novel it is implied that he struggle snuggle both sue an katia but that ends just as a misunderstanding , kumoko does not care for the people of the world but she is not the bad guy

Lethality to sunlight is quite random per story with vampires, some have deadly to indirect contact while some stories have that they can Be in sunlight but they will become weaker after a prolonged exposure, blood sucking usually negates that though. There are vampires called "Daywalkers" that do not have any weakness to sunlight and still have all their inherent strengths that vampires normaly have.

Haha, you ask the real questions: How did that huge dragon Fei come out of that little egg?

Being the Hero should not mean being skipped over though, He was still 3rd in line and being the Hero means being ready to fight for humanity itself.

The elf scene didn't really make sense because she wouldnt be able to understand them and would just know they look shady af, but they kind of messed it up with things being out of order and her not having her parallel minds at the time in the anime. Also, she did eat the humans, or more like her other minds yoinked them as snacks. It feels like because the order of things happening is different, its going to make event more awkward or it would've made more sense the original way, but maybe they're just writing to confuse the audience like for some of the other stuff. (SPOILERS) Joe skipped over the holy sword part and I dont remember if there was a scene like that in the LN but after reading LN volume 11 its still crazy to me how interconnected this stuff is literally years apart in writing and stuff. Also, Sophia is hot.

They want to confuse who it is because in the light novels by this point you have no clue who Kumoko is or was in her previous life. You don't get the confirmation on her past life until the very end of this animes season. They bounce around the different timelines and even double back eventually and fill in blank spots of what we know. Just as a literary piece of work this is the best light novel series I have read. The way they make use of narrative/timeline and narrator is meant to be confusing.

Not sure if anyone else has speculated this but what if the demon lord is mother after having her mind eaten by the other Kumokos? She probably still has the ability to evolve to Arachne(?) and will be effectively Kumoko.extended once her mind is eaten.

Remember last episode when Hugo confronts Katia and Sue, and uses a skill on them? That was him using Lust.

Reading LNs live? woooo. Mention about when you're doing it in one of your you tube reviews of Kumoko and I might hop in to see you do it. Anyways. My short thoughts on the episode: Kumoko's, first 9.5 minutes of the episode were lovely. Human side of things was sliced and diced animation wise. Also, can't believe that fit the whole coup into half an episode. Nuts. A bit sad and disappointed about that. It was a rather large and important opportunity to expand upon some characters. I still got a good chuckle from Sophia when she was all holding her hands up and saying openly, "I'm acting in self-defense, ok?" lololol Sophia, I know you tried not to harm/kill anyone, but you're still in big trouble for chocking Sensei (Oka), xD

In the topic of licking blood, apparently my great grandfather did a thing where he would drain the blood off goats, seasoned it, and drank it before it went cold.

@@FreshestAnime It's called _ñachi_ if you feel like googling it. It's eaten at different degrees of coagulation, and most photos online show it in mostly solid state, but it's still eaten warm, and some mentions of it even describe it as a beverage 😋

This episode really popped off.

From what I have seen in anime stuff vampires are usually species and not a cursed person. Most vampires dying from sunlight are a direct result of them being unnatural monsters.

was happy this episode came out few hours early, but then janky animations for sophia and shun... sadge Yes, Negishi Shouko is the Spooky/Rihoko, Progenitor Vampire Title And yeah, she does eat all the humans she kills, but its not really shown in the episode Btw Joe, why would the elves want the baby? 'that' baby? ;)

Theory: Kumokos paralel minds ate the spirit of mother, kumoko made mothers body her main, leveling it up to a humanoid form, and having a single paralel mind doing the same for the old body, so Kumoko is both the Demon lord and the white haired girl, and her motivations for all this shit is, that becasue of taboo lvl 10 she knows the truth of the world and knows that the world is going to be destroyed if nothing changes so she does all of this to save the world somehow

they are 4 player elf's, church, demons and humans( shuns kingdom and Hugo's empire) the elf's were kingdom ally's so the demons took over the kingdom by making an alliance with Hugo empire and use Hugo brainwash ability to take over the church and so now is essentially everyone VS elfs

Hm, trying to imagine being a baby with a teenager's mind and watching Kumoko eating bandits in front of me, not knowing who she is of course as she doesnt have an appraisal skill yet. Sick.

I do believe some of these scenes would have been a bit more impactful if it we got a bit more development on the humans before this arc. It was their in the light novels but the anime skipped it but I do understand why though. They most likely did not have enough time and the human side was always a side story to the spider one. The voice acting this week was great though.

It felt to me like we got more build-up to the coup in the anime than the LNs. Unless I'm mistaken, we didn't see anything like the Hugo/Cylis meeting last episode before things hit the fan.

@@NakanaiJP Yup on one hand we got more build up but at the same time I saw anime onlys predict the betrayal as a result of that and part of the fun in the betrayal was the unpredictability of it. It really depends on what you prefer. Do you want more build up or more twists that are done well.

The Progenitor title is what makes her have almost none of the weaknesses fuckboi Vampires have, as she's the "OG" Vampire, as the term Progenitor denotes

Sophia born as an original (pregenitor) vampire she doesn't need to be afraid of sunlight and don't have to drink blood to survive. But someone who got turned to be vampire by her would be damaged by sunlight and need to drink blood to live.

Yep Negishi is Rihoko the spooky one, she is a vampire progenitor a spetial kind of op vampire, one thats born as a vampire so all the weaknesess of being a vampire are canceled for her

Don't worry a lot of your questions will be answered. In like season 6 or so :) The books are a trip. The way they make use of unreliable narrator is pretty fantastic.

kinda SPOILER, but more just explaining a mechanic 5:38 You asked how the vampire can be out in the sun. They explain this in the light novels, but I doubt they will in the amine, so I will give you the short version to not spoil anything. Sophia isn't a normal vampire. As you see at this point, click on beginning of comment, in the video, she has two titles. In the LN they explain that the "vampire" title and corresponding skill have both positives and negatives. Most of those negatives are the traditional stuff for vamps, like needing to regularly drink blood to live. The "progenitor" title means she's a special kind of vampire, and as such all negative effects of being a vamp can be ignored.

she can probably stay in the sun due to the fact that she is a "Human/Vampire" so kind of like Blade :))) (edit) also, probably, Katia was brought back to life by being near Shun who held the pheonix fether so not really Shun's ability
