Interesting to see the "anachronic" option fort the scenary: a german and roman story displaced into the context of the wars between the French Revolution and the Ancien Régime, the Monarchies of Europe. The soldiers of the French Republic represent vulgarity, corruption (they stole the works of art) and terrorism and Arminius , as a symbol of personal power, seems to be more ethical! Important to remember that Handel wrote his opera sixty years before the revolutionary epoch: it creates a superposition of temporalities almost illegitimate. Marvellous Lauren Snouffer and Cencic, with so many Lamenti in the purest baroque line...
A gorgeous staging and fabulous singer/actors. Thanks for bringing us this most beautiful Handel opera. Pure pleasure!

What a wonderful cast of singers, and a Handel work I was not familiar with. But where was this performed? The city, theater and orchestra deserves some recognition!

Pregevole signore, scusate, mi permetto umilmente di affermare ciò che segue: l opera barocca Arminio di georg Friedrich haendel è paragonabile all opera Rodelinda dello stesso haendel. Per diversi motivi. Saluti.

i dont understand why these modern stagings always need to change everything. they turn a german pagan tribe vs roman battle which hardly any operas take place during into this french revolutionary period which hundreds of operas take place in. you cant even use the excuse that its been done the same way to death since handels arminio is rarely done. people haven't even seen it the way it was intented but they still feel the need to subvert it. too bad the much superior biber's arminio isn't ever performed.

Agree. At least this time the staging is more or less contemporary of Haendel's time.
Trovo assai indecenti le interruzioni pubblicitarie. Cercate di evitarle almeno nella musica classica. È vergognoso
I hate countertenors so much... They ruin every baroque opera they touch.
