It's the charisma equivalent of a barbarian with 20 str that becomes 24 at level 20 and then reads a manual and equips something that gives +4 str like the gauntlets from campaign 1. And expertise in persuasion of course.

@@Linerunner99 that's what my dm does, we just went threw an intense battle where an army of 200+ Goblin 100+ orcs and 2 ogres attacked the town we've been staying in. I ended up solo killing the 2 ogres and a bunch of goblins, my other 2 party members kicked butt as well, in the end me and our druid got captured while, of course our rogue escapes even after I tell him I'm gonna try to finish off the big orc warlock leading the army 😆. Anyway I was going through the 5e guide app and realized that we had not even a 4th of what we needed to level up! But he gave us all a level anyway, makeing us all level 5. Well to be honest, even tho Matt Mercer is the godsent saint of all dmhood, any half-decent dm who plays on a regular basis and takes his job seriously can tell you roughly which pages you have to look at to find what you seek. especially things regarding feats, magic items and equipment and such.

Otherwise, for example, I may forget that my Dark Elf would gain a single use of Faerie Fire at 3rd level and Darkness at 5th. Also... there are times that I may "look ahead" to what I want my character to get when they reach a certain level and jot those ideas down in the "notes" section of my character sheet so I can remember them when they reach that level... As someone who has played D&D in (almost) every edition since ADnD, I still love this video because it explains things so well. I'm definitely going to send this to any new players I play with or DM for in the future.

It's worth mentioning that while I've yet to play at a 5e table that didn't use them, Feats are technically an optional rule and are incorporated at the DM's discretion, so talking with your DM and group about your character design goals is always a good idea, to make sure everyone is on the same page. :)

My personal tactic is to plan a few levelups ahead for what I want to do with the character, but leave room for change. My paladin started with two handed weapons, switched to spear and shield when he found a magic spear, and is now gonna take the dual wielder feat after also finding a magic longsword. Had i planned for this?no. Am i excited for the new direction he is going in? Absolutely

Forgot to say about taking the average hp when leveling up which is half of the die +1. Though it is optional and always the dm's choice on which meathod. (Yes it is half+1 on an average. 1d6 is 4, 1d8 is 5, 1d10 is 6, and 1d12 is 7. D&D Beyond dose it, Share Tabletop dose it, and most vtt's automatically follow it when the average is picked)
