Hello fellow reefers in this video on Fragbox TV we start out with sadness news. Our hammer coral is dying in our new 5 gallon cheapest nano reef tank. Its tentacles are retracted and it ever dropped a few which is not a good sign for any LPS corals. Tia and March make a bet as to why the hammer coral is suffering. Watch to the end to see who wins the bet, why magnesium is important and win some free reefing stuff !

I always keep my mag at 1500 or higher for my hammers and torches in a mixed reef. Very informative for others struggling with these kind of corals. Another spot on vid guys.
Thanks for the heads up my hammer coral has been going thru the same issue now it's looking alot more perkier Thanks for providing awesome content and great information ✨😎
I have been having issues with LPS in my tank, tested, and sure enough the mag was low! Thanks for the great video!
You guys are the best, best reefing channel out there and just keeping it real and real fun. Happy reefing from Atlanta Georgia, USA.
Love this channel, there’s also great 👍 banter between the boss and staff, which in turn, creates a good atmosphere in store to work in, WIN WIN. 👍🏴
Thank you for the knowledge! Love your content! Keep it coming please!
Love how you guys and girl practice what you preach very helpful. Your channel is very informative cheers 👍
Dope!! Learn something new everyday.
Love you guys. Great advice. Everything in my tank was fine. Only hammer dying. Tested mag 1260. My hammers used to the absolutely massive when my mag was always at 1500
Very nice video. Putting your recommendations to the test in a real world situation. Looking at the results you know your chemistry. Keep up the great content ✌️from south africa.
Like your video, just started into this hobby, now I understand why my hammers are not happy. My tank also has low magnesium.
First time on your channel. Great video. Wish I saw this 6 months ago as I lost all my hammers and torches and been keeping levels to redsea recommendations. Never heard or seen anything about low MAG kills hammers and torches. Reefing 6yrs and learning something everyday. Thanks
Thanks for the mag lesson. Subscribed.
Dragon soul torch Just a guess. Love the videos, can’t wait to visit once my tank is ready for livestock!
Great explanation. Thank you!

Dylan’s fav coral : Gotta be torches!!! Another awesome video....thanks March!
Both my hammer r sad rn, this really helped!
Thanks man it helped my torch coral
I think Torches is Dylan favourite coral, I can see from his beautiful tank 👌👌👌
Wow amazing , my euphyllia where not happy could not figure it out . 1320 was ok in every one book I cranked it up by 90 point that was key 😊
Cool will have to try higher mag Also dosing is way easier and faster than water changes 😆 way less prep time, no buckets and no extra pumps and heaters
Even the other corals look huge too!
Rainbow Acan is his favorite coral. That's why he put one in the tank!
Thanks for info Favorite corals torch :o)
I got a 1 year tap water 15 gallon reef tank got some hammers and soft corals tank is doing pretty good, got a tailspot blenny, 2 clowns, pepermint shrimp, orange lip conch, black hermit crab, some snails got a bit of hair algae but mainly on the back glass but the snails and blanny I just got are working on it now
Great video March.favourtie coral is a torch
Great video,keep it up!*
I'm going to give this a try. I have lost a wall hammer and torch already and another torch isn't doing the best. I've dipped them and still nothing is improving them. I will give this Magnesium dosing a try as my Magnesium has been about the 1280ppm mark.
Dylan favorite coral I think would be torch coral as it looks like he likes the flow
Thank you for that nifty little tip, maybe now I can keep a hammer alive.
Hammers do respond well to elevated mag.i noticed rapid growth & puffiness when i once made a boo boo with dosing & pumped my mag upto 1800.i wouldnt recommended that though.1500 is the sweet spot for me.higher nitrate works for mine too
Favorite coral GSP!
Just bought my first dragon soul torch & branched hammer coral today! My Mag is at 1500! I'll report back how they do
Red Sea coral pro salt is on perfect level at 35ppm. Issue with high magnesium is that most test kits like AF only measure up to 1500 acutely
I when back and rewatched tank wars one and two and bunch of other videos thinking I would find out with no luck. I would have to guess some sort of acro seeing he is your fragger.
Liked and subscribed! Dylan's favorite corals are hammer corals right? His tank is the one with the BEAUTY of a hammer garden with the clowns hosting in it!

Dillon's favourite corals euphilia in general but specifically torches
Dylan looks like a zoa garden type of guy!
I dose 5ml into a 125 every day, forever. Keeps it around 1450-1475 and things are happy. Hardly even test mag, it just works. People overthink mag

I'm a beginner, and we're always warned that dosing will cause blooms of some sort. Or that dosing mag will destroy calcium, or how strontium will destroy LPS corals. So as a beginner, why dose and risk crashing a tank as you get your feet wet? Kenya tree growing, zoas are starting to spread, damsel is finally acting like a puppy, why risk a crash?
Keep losing my frog spawn and hammers, new reefer and haven’t tested my Mg. I’m buying a test kit and see if it’s low. Thanks for the suggestion
Lovey your videos this is very good content love the store from Prince Edward Island, he's favorite coral is acan?
Coral identification video series would be awesome.

Why? In 99% of cases you know what you buy
I run my magnesium @ 1500 with no problems.
What level were the KH and calcium? In my experience, KH swings will cause euphyllia to not do well.
I would advise against raising mag too fast especially in a nano. in my eperience it will definitely have detrimental effects on inverts. I still however think March knows his stuff and trust his judgement on most things
I noticed not just the hammer but all the corals pepped up
I have a couple of attempts keeping these beautiful animals in my nano, but I failed. I think it is because I have a big toadstool leather coral and some sort of chemical warfare between these two types of corals.
Dylans favorite coral is gold torch
dillons favorite is gold torch
Doing water changes replenish depleted numbers such as magnesium calcium and alkalinity simply doing water change 💦
My mag are over 1500 and had plop bail out its easier to keep SPS.
dylan’s favorite is frogspawn
His favorite coral is bounce mushrooms
Lol it looks fine to me. You should see the dumpster fire of a hammer I have in my tank
I only have two LPS in my one and a half year old tank. Blasto looks great, hammer is dying. No idea why
You have a small wave maker in this 5gl thank, I think its a hydor 180 do you have it for sale?
I got exotic hammer farm I don't do water change my hammer like dirty water also I only run blue light.
I have 1350 and my hammer is smaller but not receding flesh. I think I’m gonna add more.
Duncan Your store rocks March
his fav coral has got to be aussie torchs
Dillon's favourite- frogspawn
what about anemones? do they like elevated magnesium levels?
Will this also work for Duncan corals? Mine have been sulking for a while now and are retracted. My alk is 1350.
The chart you go off of does it go all the way upto 1600 ?? My chart stops at 1250...or do you just start over again and add numbers together?
After watching your other video about magnesium in my you philia not looking that good. I bumped my magnesium up to 1550 and everything look 10 times better way better
I’m having same problem, video pops up, can you make another video for Goni?
do they need a nice flow on the strong side? because mine does good for a while then all of sudden there dead
i’ve found dosing is easier and extends my wc’s. in the nano
Will low calcium kill coral, my coral dropped or 225 and increased to high and it died. Any suggestions? Also now seeing KH spike 🥲
I have one head dying on me right now and I can't figure out why it's dying off I tested everything and no signs of anything off
I have the same problem , I have 2 hammers , 1 is doing good the other is reseeding. Mag at 1480 , placement ?
I had to move my whole scape for my hammer bc it didn’t like flow
and no snail coma... another video how does magnesium affect algae?
Dosing just one Chem can throw a huge swing in the reactions of all the other chems
Dillon looks like a Scoly guy
Dylan favorite coral: Torch coral
Dillon fav coral is plate coral
Not sure I follow the Mg argument, practically NSW is 1285 so RS targeting 1350 still exceeds the required level. Not much literature I’ve found to support elevate Mg beyond 1400. Should’ve tested NO3 and PO4 daily during the same trial to substantiate results. Assuming here there was no WC between days so NO3 increased ruling out direct correlation of Mg increase.
tiaaaaaaaaaaaa is just sooooo damn beautiful!! I hope she reads these =)

she doesn't but I do :p
Dillion's favourite Coral - Montis
huh... I wonder if low magnesium is why all the torches look terrible at my local shop. Their reef expert told me to aim for 1250ppm for magnesium.
My mag never goes below 1400 but some euphyllia responds and some don't. I hate dosing because it is hard to determine how much the tank is using. I measured Alk using the hanna for 30 straight days and it fluctuates so much I just gave up and picked a number and hope for the best. Can you do a "how to take care of your leather coral", my fake weeping willow is not doing so well, I have no idea what is going on, increase mag? LOL.
Torches. Dylan likes movement in his tank hence why so many torches lol
dillions fav coral is zoas!
Is this just for tropical fishtanks?
Dragon Soul torch coral
Might try a higher mag level after watching this, my tank is Euphyllia dominant

@sberry55 yeah I raised my mag levels. The colour has come back quite a bit but also started aminos at the same time so hard to say what helped most. Still battling low nutrients so my corals could look much better.

@sberry55 I used magnesium from an Australian company called Coral Kreations.
Water changes
Euphyllia* Speak to text got me
I just tested my mag. 1125 my hammers and frogspon are fat and happy. New heads popping up on all of them. Will raising mag help improve color in my sps?

Highly recommend keeping magnesium 1350min for any reef tank
Were you dosing 25ml every day to achieve your desired level after the 4th day? Or was it the one time dose at day 1 followed by 4 days of testing? Once you reach your targeted mag level how much do you dose to maintain that level?
@Badboii21
Жыл бұрын
You can raise mag 100 ml daily with no harm and to maintain, you’ll have to test daily or to know how much it’s drops daily or weekly and just adjust the ML. *mag depletes or consumed super slow
His Fav coral is euphyllia parancora?
Definitely ACANs
are you guys making as video to share knowledge or to illustrate your relationship?
Dillon's fav.coral. acan!
😂 on magnesium level you don’t want to have disagreements in a house made of glasses .
My hammer corals are really puffy, but have lost their hammer shape. Some even look like a torch coral. Could magnesium be the cause of this?

If you haven’t found out by now sometimes small hammers can look like torches but what happened to me was I was sold a small hammer and it wasn’t doing hot turns out it was a christata torch hopefully your reef is well
