@chrishall4871 : I too am an atheist. But this song does sound good and the voice of the singer, she is remarkable. You don't need to believe in a god in order to appreciate music when it is done so well. Believe in what ever you want. Just please don't ask all of us to follow your beliefs as there were not other options. We'd all get along better that way.

Leonard Cohen was a devout Jew and had an Orthodox Jewish burial in Montreal, Canada. I am so pleased this song, as well as many others ,has touched so many people.

Without trying to offend any religious, this poem in all its verses , makes me cry and I feel like there is an angel by my side..... I still say the prayers I learned as a young boy. This one brings me to my knees asking for forgiveness. I don't think, I don't hope I am alone.

Leonard Cohen wrote 84 verses of this wonderful song. Each verse was a separate expression of the word, Hallelujah. If he had lived it is likely that he would have added more verses. John Cale took just five verses to perform and record. Two more verses were added and it is the seven verses that have been "accepted" as being the song the public hears. Apparently John Cale was astonished when Cohen gave him fifteen pages of verses from which to choose. I would love to hear more versions made up of some other verses.
I love the lyrics more than singers who sing the song. Anyone who sings this Leonard Cohen's piece overdoes it emotionally. He does it best.
RIP Leonard Cohen.

Yes as I say it’s one of my favourite songs and I’m aware that there’s at least 50 Hallelujah covers out there, from Bon Jovi to Jeff Buckley and beyond but I shared it because I really thought she honoured the song and the servicemen so well!

I read in an interview that BonnJovi’s cover was Leonard’s favorite. It’s true though that there is no such thing as a bad version of this beautiful song.

@@chardonnaylouisewhite7253 She is a very successful actress, having played a lead role for over a decade and with two harrowing storylines (child abuse and then miscarriage due to foetal abnormality) in the UK's highest viewed soap, EastEnders. Shona is an absolute star. A great actress and fabulous singer. She doesn't need The Voice. However, I agree that she would be a fantastic ambassador (assuming that the song is good enough) for the UK in Eurovision.

Cette chanson ne doit absolument pas être considérée comme un chant ou un cantique religieux, même si le mot Hallelujah figure dans les paroles , avec une orthographe différente de celle utilisée dans les textes bibliques et qui s'écrit Alléluia. Yeah I have discovered so much music from unexpected and independent artist that isn’t available on iTunes, Apple Music or Spotify, so many great love performances
I knew Shona could sing, from her role in Eastenders in which she did a bit of singing but NOTHING like that. She has a quite sensational delivery and power and she absolutely nailed this wonderful version of Cohen's great iconic song.
