Hall of Shame: Collision shop guy's reputation is a wreck

When you take your car to a body shop for repairs you expect it to come back with less damage - not more damage. That's one of the reasons why a Redford repair shop guy is on a collision course with Rob Wolchek.

Welcome to Michigan. The police will bust you, and send you to prison for having a roach of a joint. But get pulled over 25 times for not having a valid driver's license - it's OK. Now in Wisconsin, you can still drive without a license for driving drunk more than one time. Actually you can get pulled over n Wisconsin many times, and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol up to 8 - 9 times, and still get behind the wheel to drive to the liquor store.

I have been in the auto body business for thirty years and it's up to the shop owners, managers and fellow technicians to police one another but that doesn't always happen and you get characters like this and the insurance companies are to blame as well because most time you have to fight with them to pay for needed repairs to fix the car properly.

@@fashionlife5348 If a shop is waiving your deductible, let’s say $250, they are NOT going to take a $-250 loss on the repair. The profit margins in auto body are too narrow. They will simply NOT perform $250 worth of repairs. For ex, the appraisal from insurance may say to replace a bumper cover…shop will simply repair and refinish part to cover the expense of “waiving” your deductible. I have seen it countless times. Furthermore, if they are not doing $250 worth of repairs, why not neglect do another $100 or $200 worth of repairs further increasing their profit margin. If you as customer complain to your ins, you’re screwed as the decision to find a shop to “waive” your deductible was yours. IF you do find a shop to “waive” your deductible and still do all the work shown on the insurance appraisal, they will not be in business long as it’s not feasible to take a consistent $100-$500 loss on every insurance claim they repair

We did find a few people who had broad form and didn't realize it so we got their deductibles waived but I wouldn't put a neon up stating that lol ..... About the only ways we could cut down people's deductibles we're to use cheaper parts or not reinstall some accessories but In those cases the customer would have to settle with the insurance company directly then pay us once they got the check because we weren't going to invoice that we did work we didn't do. We quit that because it became a headache try to help people and then they get pissed at you. Not worth it.
