Linen Wool Blend Tie in Olive Green - gentl.mn/2kKPBdl
Ironically, the Half Windsor knot has nothing to do with the Windsor knot. Today, I'm wearing a Half Windsor knot with a green linen wool blend tie from Fort Belvedere which is on the thin side. It is a symmetrical knot, with a tie dimple included.
How to tie the Half Windsor knot:
1. With the slim end on your right and the wide end on your left.
- The slim end should be about a hand and a half above your waistband, the wide end goes to the right, over the slim end and back to the side it was originally at.
2. Bring the tie up and go through the hole and go the opposite side so you have it back onto your right.
3. Bring it back over to the left and front, pull it down and up, forming the knot.
4. The wide end goes through the knot and for a dimple, pinch.
5. Once the knot is forming, pull the slim end up and pull down underneath the knot and pinch.
6. Form the knot you like and then pull it up.
- With this tie knot, avoid wearing a tab collar or any collar bars and pins. I recommend a cutaway collar, spread collar, maybe medium spread thin ties.
- For thicker ties, it may be daring, it's not going to be as big as the full Windsor knot.
- For shorter men, get a short tie so you can tie a smaller knot that suits you, your height and your body.

My father taught me to tie a Windsor when I was 12. I'm 69 now, and this is the first time I've learned to tie a half-Windsor. Looks good. Feels weird.
An excellent video, thank you. I have struggled to get this elegant looking knot right for some time, but no longer thanks to practicising while watching this film. Thank you, my compliments.
0:15 Wow, very well tied. Nice shape, dimple, and you covered the fabric right above the button, which I consider a necessity. Well done!

+Jordon Grubic Thank you very much! ;)
That was an extremely wide collar! Great video once again.
I may have to try dimpling my tie. Saw it on the previous full Windsor tie style too. I have done my all to have a perfect curve or come for lack of a better word. I learned many different ways growing up since we wore uniforms & mostly so in secondary boarding school. Half Windsor is the closest & works for any tie making it tighter or looser to get the right size. Thank you always for your experience.
After several attempts and several videos, I’m happy to say I finally learnt to tie the tie properly. Thank You Sir!
Decided to try the knot for the first time today. I gotta say, the knot itself looks worse than other alternatives, but it creates an excellent dimple so I'm gonna keep it for today
Still the best tutorial on KZread. Thank you.
Best coaching video about man's wardrobe I've ever watched. I like this channel. Keep going!

Gentleman's Gazette Could you please tell me the length of the tie you are using? I am only 5'8" but when I tie a half Windsor the long end falls at my belt buckle, but the short end is so short that it is not long enough to go through the loop in the back of the tie. What am I doing wrong?
Best tie tutorials on the tube!
What i just did is took my phone infront of a mirror and facing towards it! And practiced this knot...my dad's favorite knot :) half windsor!!

Mandeep Baweja there you go! How come your dad did not teach you the knot?

Sir he already taught me this knot....but generally i wear 4 in hand because of my face shape but in formal occasions i wear half windsor or a double knot :) and i m not able to tie this in that situation....so i take help of youtube & practice it :)
Thank you! Your instructions were clear and easy to follow and I managed to get it after a couple of attempts!
My favorite tie knot. It is symetrical but not too big like full windsor. So basically it has all of the benefits of the 4 in hand and full windsor knot without their flaws.
I always enjoy your videos - keep them coming :-)

***** Thanks, please help spread the word and give us a thumbs up!
I love the attention to detail you display on your videos. However I watched the Thomas Pink video on the same knot. Same knot name different knot? Once again you videos have been excellent help in my personal life as I learn more about dressing well.
thank you for the deep info i like the channel very much (fan from Morocco)

Gentlemen you have the best channel. Sir i have a question please help me with this. Which is the proper starting position of the wide end of the tie, right or left? It depends on the dominant hand or on the type of the knot?
How far down your body should the very bottom of the tie end up when finished? Should the bottom of the tie be above your belt level, reach your belt level, or go down a bit below belt level? thanks
What about 5'4"-5'8" sized men huh? Just banished us to the size chart purgatory.

Gentleman's Gazette I was just poking fun, I really love your videos. Could you perhaps make some videos on bottoms? You've mentioned some in your polo videos but I haven't seen a vid dedicated to just pants yet.
You saved me!!
can someone help? when i tie the knot, the knot is the same size on the top and bottom. I have tried pinching the bottom and sliding the knot up, with no luck...
I lov
I can do it now :D
Can you do a tie knot video for us lefties?!
Can't get the dimple, but atleast it's symmetrical
That look reminds me of the little rascals. Very informative though!
Would this possibly work at all with a knit tie? Thank you.

no, four in hand is best for knit ties

Gentleman's Gazette Thank you for your reply.
Thanks, I always say getting a dimple, first takes patience. Depending on the material and quality of your Neckwear will depend on your strategy for acquiring a nice dimple. Never go for perfection, it doesn't exist. Be satisfied and be yourself.
The knotting begins at 0:58
Reversed of what I do and what I've seen on other videos, I do wide end on the right.

His way makes the most ergonomic sense since most people are right hand dominant. Left hand ends up spending most of its time simply holding the narrowed inside end of the tie and the right hand does the bulk of the actual work. Clear as mud??? :-)
And if you a short guy with a large head and medium upper body…only the legs are shorter? I prefer small ties with a half windsor knot for my shark collars and a 4inhand knot for all kent collars
Start at 0:58, first minute was the intro.
tie it with the tie upside down
I always go the half windsor. Not a fan of the dimple though.
I seriously hate that collar at 0.05 and I bet most other people do too. I have a 19" neck so that collar would look particularly absurd, even more than it does on you.
wish you mirrored the video :/

LiqCharles The problem with mirroring is that some most people don't expect that. I guess we could mirror our videos and repost them if that was of any help to some... Have you tried tying it that way. It works very well.

i guess you have a point, its just that alpha m did it in one his videos and i just enjoyed it and kept coming back to that particular video to tie the knot. i would appreciate it even more if there was an alternate video that has it mirrored. :) still a great video though.

LiqCharles I will keep it in mind and talk to my video editor about it.
Your videos are excellent, but I wish you'd not have the drumming in the background. It gives me a headache and distracts from your lessons.
The collar on that shirt is like those bum revealing jeans that kids wear. AWFUL!
You could have IRONED your shirt
@gentlemansgazette

+nimrodxv228 It was ironed, but when you have a high quality camera and strong lights you see winkles that you would not see in person.
