Half-Life 2's Intro with HL:Alyx's G-man [SFM]

Ойындар

All the animations in the video are self made, no automatic lip sync. It was actually harder to replicate the background scenes than animate Gman himself, as sfm won't load the first HL2 map.
Also I couldn't find the moving starlines in hl2's particle folder, so rip for that.
Wanted to make this scene for a long time, with how much the game means to me, and the new Gman model was the perfect excuse to commit to it.
Think I did the scene justice? Let me know below.

    Not really.... Its so overanimated it feels nothing like Gman should. He shouldnt be waving around so much with so excessive and quick expressions. He is meant to be eerily stoic and reserved with some slow and usually creepy expressions. It missed the mark completely. Look at ending in HL Alyx he is still like he is in HL2 in this regard. Slow expressions, some creepy expression from time to time with hallucinatory effects. He looks like he's on coke in these fan remakes

    Heart to heart had this problem big time. I can take him more seriously in this one, because he is supposed to be philosophical alien being that we don't understand and we have to put the pieces back together. In the heart to heart animation for it it seemed like he isn't taking what he says seriously and just constantly smiles with no repercussions, even though we clearly knew before hand that he has problems with the vortigaunts, so he wants to make sure that Freeman does exactly what he wants so things can happen correctly. This one he isn't smiling as much which I really appreciate and you can clearly see moments where he doesn't want to screw himself at what he wants to say to Freeman.

    I agree, I think Mike Shapiro or maybe Valve themselves (not sure) confirmed that G-man was voiced with a speech pattern that was intentionally misleading and hard to interpret. The older more static facial expressions of Half Life 2 are actually more befitting of G-man for that reason. G-mans facial expressions was the only thing that bothered me about the ending of Half Life Alyx. That and the fact that Alex Vance just talked way too much, she just kept on talking and asking questions and it annoyed me.

( 0:36 ) Now I can see his expression changing, a process in his mind, as he continues with his monologue. That alone definitely would have improved the first impression from the game. Edit: Now that I look at him closely.. Actually in VR he's quite intimidating. You get a sense of his height and it's just on the hairy edge of being unnaturally tall (for example, I'm 6'2 and he's a few inches taller than me), and when he gets in your personal space it's kind of unnerving. Problem is, if you watch this all on a video instead of experiencing it inside of VR, it fucks with the newfound scale and presence he has. His more realistic looking appearance only enhances the creepiness when he makes an off kilter facial expression or does something odd.

    I don’t think that’s entirely fair. The uncanny irregularities are a little more subtle, but I think they’re still present. The movements of his eyebrows and the luminescent eyes being the most obvious. The way his face is lit also helps sell the effect beyond just his character model.

    There's a part in hl Alyx, in the end, when he teleports you to the space, that he becomes grayish, and there you can see the real gman

    Same could be said about the Half Life Source model, the HLS model makes Gman look just like a normal person in comparison to the Scientists and Guards, which may just be because of technical limitations and the fact the port was highly rushed.

  • @Kacpa2
    @Kacpa24 жыл бұрын

    He is a bit overanimated. Gman is meant to be really reserved, alien with how barely expressive he is. Having him so over animated just looses this important part of his presense. Look at Half life Alyx ending, he is just as reserved as in HL2, slow reactions, and few creepy expressions but mostly stoic and reserved.

    Oh, fancy seeing you here, I loved Azeroth roleplay! Yeah, I agree with you, I think it's mostly in the eyebrows and head movement. Would be a great animation for anybody other than Gman lol.

    @@mr.nazareth4501 Glad You enjoyed it, sadly people dont host it to often anymore especially on...."Reforged". Stil cant flrgive Blizzard for what they have done to the game... As for Gman animations Coreyladdo animates HLA Gman much better, even in more memey videos 😅 Tbh he animates everything very well. He even was chosen to make cinematics to that Levitation mod for HLA. Komegatze is also really good. PS. Sorry for late reply 😅
