What I have heard people visiting Soviet Russia from Here in Finland nylon pantyhose were really wanted items in there. They used to buy lots of stuff with those when they visited.

The GAZ (Volga) 24. A pity they were never marketed in the UK. Nice combination of Soviet/US styling. Probably got one if they had been UK marketed. Certainly better chance of checking them out properly. USSRs answer to the Merc.

A bit unfair as far as the portrayal of the cars goes. Typical common cars such as Zhigulis were not that bad. Not fast, minimal accessories, but they were (and still are) reasonably reliable.
