Haken Audio EaganMatrix Module - I/O Use Cases

Describing all the I/O options on the EaganMatrix module ending with a use case using two modules, the output of which was previously posted, but I include that at the end for completeness. You have many options for playing and controlling the module, from CV only, to TRS Midi playing and control, to USB Midi playing and control to use of Haken Audio's Continuum Voltage Converter (or Evaton Technologies uCVC) for Midi to CV conversion and default MPE CV to Midi output conversion - or any combination there of. Lots of I/O possibilities. You will need a Midi host however to play over USB without a computer.

I have one of these on pre order. Any idea yet of release date? It is going to sound so amazing.

You'll need to go to Hakenaudio.com and create a ticket to request that information. I think US pre-orders are shipping. Oversea orders you will need to ask schedule.

Hi, I am trying to play the module with Ableton Push 3 via USB Midi, but it seems not to receive any signal. I can play it via TRS Midi, MPE, no problem, but via TRS Midi a few cells from Push 3 do not work, there's no sound. So I wanted to check if this is better via USB Midi, but I can't get it to work in this mode. Am I doing something wrong? I'm in love with this module, btw.. :)

I tried to hook it up directly Push3 -> Module, wich, as mentioned, does not work. When I go over the DAW Push 3-> Ableton DAW MPE-settings -> Module I can play one note wich is audible, but then it goes dead and on the module display it notes the word "loop"... tried other mpe-gear the same way, but it's no problem on other devices, I can play seamless.. all via USB Midi..

@@danielimhof3603 You need a USB Midi host to play the module directly over USB. If you don't have a USB Midi host then you can connect Push3 and Module to your computer, bring up the Haken Editor and in Midi and Global Setting for Ext Device 1 select Push3 device and set to Music data filtering. But you still need to send MPE data on channels 2-9 (assuming your preset is set to support max 8MPE channels (some are set for less). Connect a Midi monitor and see what data those Push3 buttons that don't work are sending. You can't play on channels 10-16 for the module. Play on channel 1 for non-MPE else you need to play MPE on channels 2-9 as noted.

OK silly question: Let's say I'm sequencing the EM module with MI Marbles. I know the gate trigger can come out of the T ports, and the pitch information from the X ports. But where does the "envelope" information come from?

Think about how you would create an output from any oscillator. You would typically send 1V/Oct X information into it and then send the audio output into a VCA that you would control the envelope of with an envelope generator or ADSR of some sort perhaps. With the module that Z (envelope/volume) input could be the output from an envelope generator if you want to impose a shape to the sound. If you don't care about shape you could just copy a gate to Z - but that would not be very interesting as all notes would come out as a full gated volume. Since Gate on the module is anything > 1V, you could impose some random function on a CV that produces a range of values between 1V and 5V and copy that to both gate and Z. This would at least change the volume of each note output. Lots of things you could do. I suggest you think of Z as volume (be it just fixed volume or an envelope) and go from there.

Another thing to realize is that a lot of the presets already have an envelope of sorts applied. You can try just copying W to Z in that case.

Also I don't have a Marbles, but I guess you could just send a W gate into the module and then a random voltages from Marbles synced to the gate in the 0-5V range (or some other range that maps to a volume range you want).
