'Haitian solutions to Haitian problems': 'There needs to be a new direction for how Haiti is ruled'

Heavily armed gangs tried to seize control of Haiti’s main international airport on Monday, exchanging gunfire with police and soldiers in the latest attack on key government sites in an explosion of violence that includes a mass escape from the country’s two biggest prisons. The Toussaint Louverture International Airport was closed when the attack occurred, with no planes operating and no passengers on site. Associated Press journalists saw an armored truck on the tarmac shooting at gangs to try and prevent them from entering airport grounds as scores of employees and other workers fled from whizzing bullets. It wasn't immediately clear as of late Monday whether the attack, which was the biggest one in Haiti's history involving the airport, was successful. Last week, the airport was struck briefly by bullets amid ongoing gang attacks, but gangs did not enter the airport nor seize control of it. The attack occurred just hours after authorities in Haiti ordered a nighttime curfew following violence in which armed gang members overran the two biggest prisons and freed thousands of inmates over the weekend. As gangs in Haiti try to seize control of the main airport in the newest attack on key government sites, FRANCE 24's Nadia Massih is joined by Rosa Freedman, Professor of Law Conflict and Global Development and the Director of the Global Development Division at the University of Reading.

'Haitian solutions to Haitian problems' What does that mean when Haiti is a member state of the following? Caribbean Community member states, since 2002 Francophonie since, 1970 United Nations, since 1945 What is the purpose of all these Organizations? To what extent have they been complementary to Haiti in terms of synergy? Haiti, among the Caribbean nations alongside African and Pacific nations have gathered in a cooperation called 'ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly', they said it rooted in relations dated from 1957. To what extent 'Haitian solutions to Haitian problems' when a full account cannot be made of the tragedy of Haiti without considering its episode of a dynasty tyranny of Duvalier. It is interesting to the extent that Haiti nowadays in the framework of the ''ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly'' where each side has its chief negotiator, the chief negotiator of countries of Africa, the Caribbean, thus Haiti, and the Pacific, is the representative of a 60+ year-old dynastic tyranny of West Africa. 'Haitian solutions to Haitian problems'? Why? since it seems to be all about a collective madness.

I agree but the people of Haiti themselves have different ideas on how that happens. Some people don’t even trust their government and believe the current leader had something to do with the death of Claude Joseph. And I don’t think the US would be okay with Cuban military officers doing anything outside of Cuba in their Caribbean.

Why does the guest suggest Cuba and Venezuela? Two communist countries that are falling apart. She's also very much against Kenya because of money? I think it's good to see an African country taking up U.N. security. It's also amazing to see how the Dominican Republic is doing extremely well as a democracy and they are on the same island.

Because Cuba and Venezuela are actual friends of Haiti. Kenyans are mercenaries hired by the USA. Cuba and Venezuela would be there simply to help the security situation and would be welcomed by the Haitian people. Kenyans would not be welcomed.

Kind of hard for Haiti to choose the forces they want, considering that they already don't want the current government. Also before those civil socities sit down and argue and negotiate for the government and rules you want, you need a force that will go in and create order and some form of stability for the citizens(This a war not peacekeeping mission)

This professor’s remarks are quite interesting coming from a person sitting in the UK without having to live in Haiti. There are people I know living in Haiti who have no hope but to get a Biden visa. They are people like you or I who want a better life, whose dreams for themselves and their family have been completely shattered by the barbaric violence and who hold the kind of left wing academics like this woman with complete contempt. Ps The PM is trying to come back but has been thwarted by lawlessness at the airport.
