Haircut hater gets a makeover by wife

I hate haircuts based on a horrible experience at the hairdressers as a 10 year old. All the poking and prodding and sitting drove me nuts. Still does. Relying on mum, girlfriends, myself, mates and now Helen, I’ve saved a lot of money and had shoddy hair ever since. After looking particularly crap recently, I decided to have a very fast makeover at the hands of my wife, who’s learning how to cut hair on my head.

I cut my own hair and get compliments often, so, I now save $250. every 3 months on color and cut, since 1998. It all started when my mom thought she could do the cut herself, based on a nice hair cut on a Vogue cover, so she took out her DULL garden scissors, and said, "Come on scissors," as she cut through my very very long straight hair, and now, I am able to keep it trimmed and fresh whenever I want, myself. I've saved a fortune. Add that up!

Haha, this is gold. I'm a red bearded guy who's relying upon my wife for haircuts during covid days... I'm going to dog the boys here and side with your wife! Patience is key to a semi-reasonable hair cut. Let them do their thing on their timeline. The end result is worth the wait! My wife has "good scissors" but I get the rough looking set I'm sure she's used to open tins of paint... They work more like vice grips than cutting implements! I'm pretty sure a cut and colour is around $200-ish. I semi regularly grab couple of hundred dollar gift vouchers at her favourite salon to give a guilt free experience. I have no idea of the actual price, so I just guess around the mark. The brownie points are generally cashed in at BCF 👌

Geee, you have a mighty mane on the top of your head Beau. It looks great. I used to have too, but the last 10 years, it got somewhat less😔 Helen did a mighty good job there!!!

My brother is a curly red head and has the same fear. When he was young my mom had to catch him while he was running around the property for about a 2 second snip of the bangs so that he could see while being a small Braveheart. Laughed hard while watching this.

I hope you’re doing well. It’s fun seeing your name here. I found out my bristle nose super red is female recently. It started burrowing the substrate and moving its hide and the submerging itself in the substrate. My fish shop owner set things right and my reading of the bristle length properly adjusted. I have a breeding pair of cories in her tank and I’ve found she really enjoys 3-4 day old eggs. I hope fry survive some day.

Amazing video as always, I know speak for many we would love to see more of you Beau. If it even be just trivial bite size chunks of your life. Could you do a short weekly not vlog but "happenings" bit for a month? That would be pretty epic, to key us into one tiny aspect or project. If it even be small stuff such as the haircut avoidance bought lawnmower cutting the grass and mumblings or going through the shed tour. That would be neat I would watch that.

You might be onto something Nathan. We've tossed up the idea, but small stuff takes away from the longer burns and still takes a lot of time...but yep, point taken and I kinda agree. Just need to burn a little hotter and longer during the weekly 168!

Curiosity question: was the amount of time spent trying to find out what your wife spends on cuts equivalent to the amount of time it took to get yours done? 😂 love the videos Beau. Been watching ever since “marathon over 24 hours”

Oh thank you Beau -- both because I'm a fellow haircutter disliker for all the same reasons but also been in a bit of a rut with the ol' creativity (started my KZread channel a few months ago) and this was a spark of inspiration for good-storytelling and finding magic in the mundane. Hellen is such a sport, bless her.

My wife has cut my hair for the past 32 years, and I love it, but it's always a little contentious. When we'd been married four years she looked at me one morning and said, "If you shaved off that beard, you'd be the handsome man I married instead of the loathsome slob you've become." Being a good husband, I immediately went and shaved. However, when I returned, my three-year-old daughter burst into tears and wailed, "Shave it back Daddy! Shave it back!" My wife has never pressured me to shave since. :D

The hairdresser may be worried that this checking up on cost is some sort of spousal abuse / stalking. If you ask how much haircuts at the establishment typically cost that's one thing, but what you're asking for is probably legally protected PII (would be in the US).
