    When I was a kid, some thoughtless urge passed from my head into my foot, which I then put into the spokes of my front bicycle wheel. Jammed immediately, no damage to my foot or shoe, and me, my paper route saddlebags and the bike went right over the handlebars.

    If you successfully jam a front wheel, be that a push bike or motorcycle, the most likely outcome is a loss of traction on the front end, overcompensation by the rider and a one way ticket to eating shit. Would actually look really sick in an action sequence and if Tarantino decides to incorporate such a crash, they can be super gory as the victim slides across the ground.

    Though when you break hard only the real wheel lifts, the front wheel actually is pushed into the ground and the worst thing that can happen is that you flip over but the bike won't get entirely airborne.

  • @Monsux

    @Monsux

    5 ай бұрын

    @@MrMarinus18 Not airborne like in the movie (depends on the speed). I did flip over once, and it was more to do with center or gravity. With most of the bikes, it's easier to ride with heavily forward leaning. I ended up to the street and the bike landed on top of me. This would be way harder with heavier bike, but combine downhill, scuffed road (dent) and front heavy balance. I bet you can flip it. These test were just on the flat road without real driver + so many failures vs the real world situation. Would have been fun to see with some of those crazy stunt/trick riders with real bikes.

    Hmm I'm still not sold on the bike not flipping, I've flipped my bicycle over a number of times by applying front brakes. I think having a person vs a dummy that doesn't change its center of mass during the front wheel locking is the reason why the bike doesn't flip. Linear momentum can transform into angular momentum and vice versa

    Unfortunately I have witnessed this very event, so I know it can happen. The things I think the experiment doesn't allow for are the riders reaction (and I assume this experiment presumes none). In the instance I witnessed, a stick was intentionally pushed into the spokes of a wire spoked small 50cc motorbike by a pedestrian. The stick was approximately 2inch diameter and two foot long. So clearly in my account the rider could have reacted to seeing the attack and ever so slightly applied the brakes or even tried to steer away: so this could cause downward force and increase potential angular momentum. Add to this the possibility of the steering rack being twisted through 90deg by the rider at point of impact and you have far too much tractor force and angular momentum. As with all things plotted against a Normal Distribution curve, there will always be those 2.5% sections at either end of the curve that result in myths being born, I guess. I love mythbusters and have to remind myself that they are not a definitive proof of all things lol

  • @christianellegaard7120
    @christianellegaard71205 ай бұрын

    Another way that you might be able to make the bike somersault, is to use a weakened wheel instead of a steel reinforced one. If you replace the thick motorcycle spokes with thin bicycle spokes, and maybe remove half of them, so the wheel is just barely able to hold the bike while driving smooth and straight. Then you might be able to make all the spokes fail, causing the fork to dive into the road. If you are on a dirt road, like in the movie, that might make the bike flip. Not jump up into the air, but possibly flip end over end.

And when you know who is actually guilty huge part of "wow" moment is missing. Now engineering part of Mythbusters is always interesting to watch, but when you've already seen the result all this "what is going to happen?" from hosts and narrator falls flat. Of course, since I already watched the show in due time, it doesn't matter much to me now. But when I was watching for the first time I used to skip the intro.
