In fact you can see what is clearly a hotel within walking distance at 43:25. Well, not like they'd actually maroon themselves on a desterted island for a TV show production as is pointed out in the episode. It's more just a proof of concept anyway.

Love these duct tape specials. I know some people don't like the scripted nature of them, but without a story to tie everything together it just becomes a series of unrelated challenges and wouldn't be as entertaining as a full special. It's not like they are trying to win any awards for the scripting/acting, merely giving some context and structure to tie the individual builds together in the absence of their usual myth based format.

@@levilevis9032 Bear Grylls has never lied about the fact that they were filming a TV show, not documenting his real survival. In interviews and his books he has talked about how they did stay in local accommodation, he only slept in the wilderness if they specifically were shooting a scene where he was camping out.

I’m sure it was staged, but it’s information everyone should know if they’re in a survival situation themselves. And at the end of the day, they are both entertainers and scientists, and teaching things in a fun and entertaining way is what they do. That’s not even the only time they’ve taught viewers things they need to know to survive either. I remember a reunion episode where they watched a video from a fan telling her story of how she and her daughter’s car went off the road and into the water, and she remembered the underwater car escape episode and knew that she had to stay calm and wait til the pressure equalised, and she and her daughter survived because of that knowledge. The Mythbusters were quite emotional watching that(Karrie even cried a little) knowing that their work saved that family’s lives. I’m sure if a fan came to them and said that they were stranded on a desert island and they survived because they remembered this episode, the Mythbusters would be glad that they could help that person too.

LATEST NEWS: WALRUS ATTACKS REDHEAD In the calm waters of San Francisco a noisy and somewhat savage attack happened yesterday. A red-headed swimmer was trying to swim through bubbly water when suddenly an angry walrus appeared out of the gloom, barked at him repeatedly and then slapped him. People on the beach said that the walrus seemed to be acting as if it had a grudge against that particular swimmer. Eye-witness Kory Bellihara was in the water at the time: "This thing came out of nowhere! Suddenly it leapt out of the water, honed in on this red-headed guy and the just started barking at him. Bark, bark, bark, bark. That's what is did. Then it just slapped the guy with its flippers before swimming off to sea. The swimmer was shocked but said it wasn't the first time he'd experienced the wrath of an angry walrus, which seemed strange". Marine biologists were puzzled at the appearance of a walrus in the bad but speculated that the walrus may have seen the red-head as some sort of threat. Mating behaviour has been ruled out. Spotter planes have been sent to track the walrus down in case it should attack again. According to Mr Bellihara, the walrus has a distinctively long set of facial whiskers. (also the misspelled "oopened")
This have to be their best episode. Such a pleasure to rewatch all of that stuff.

I think I've seen this exact episode like 5 times now and it's still my all-time favorite!
I have been waiting for this episode
No duck tape was harmmed during the production of this episode
The duct tape survival island is my ask time gaiters episode of mythbusters. I really felt Adam's excitement in his moment of epiphany.
my god what a great episode! i could watch this all day
One of favourite episodes of the whole series
Fair play on the chicken proved can catch a wild chicken ; so no need to kill it. I'd say that's ticked and Jamie has made a credible spear.
I don't think you know how happy I'm right now discovering this channel.... My childhood right here
this is one of my fav episode
this one was fun. having seen lots of survival series, this one was just a fun take on ducttape. no pretences that it isn't a show, and a great boat at the end.
This is the one! This is my favourite episode! 10/10!
12:12 wider all four sides with aprox 30” of duct tape but only you turn around that outer square. Now the buggies have to crawl 30 inches over sticky tape before the get to you which they wont. Once i had a plant and i put aprox 2 inches of double sided sticky tape on the edge of the pot to keep the ants away from the plant and it worked. Exceptional to see was how other ants where trying to save the ants who where glued to the tape.
whats about a duct tape sail? out of the rain catcher? sunshade on that boat only a few sticks more you had a roof and a sail guys that boat is good for sure but is it really a plattform to survive a few weeks on the ocean? make a yacht! a fishing rod? i really wanne see all the cool primitive tools made out of duct tape^^ stone duct tape Tomahawk.
Man this is what i grew up watching thanks its been a hot min
Wild chickens are very agile. Chasing them is a bad idea. You need to establish a trap for it.
Such a amazing video. Can you please at some point very soon upload the 8th episode from season 8? It has my two favourite myths ever tested that being the giant waterslide and right turns only. If you could make that possible, that would be amazing.
36:12 Is the my favourite part of the show, a sleeping chicken.
I still feel sad every time I see Grant in the intro 😭😭

Handyman Secret Weapon.
That was..... Awesome!!!! I wanna make a boat out of duct tape now. :)
Jamie needs some spear-making lessons from the Aussie indigenous. It is pretty cool how he went with the same idea of making multiple points.
as a brit, its really weird hearing this intro with the American narrator, it's completely different.
would actually have been interesting to see them disassemble the chicken without knives
What happened to the giant cephalopod on the beach? And another question you'll never answer??? Toilet paper? Duck tape 😣... Rum back, duck tape distilled piss and Cheeerrrss

How is it that there are chiken's evrywere, also their boat is missing a net and a heatshield

All that dry wood and green, signal fire, smoke,
I think flex tape would have been more effective
What for they get stuck on tropics

owey ducktape but wipes lol
Wow
11:20 Well u shouldnt drink too salty water, but it can be saltier, than u might expect, especially if theres none to almost none food. With salt water, which isnt more sour than the own tears, what would be 0,9% salt, u would add very helpful stuff to your body instead the food.... Because with food, u usually automatically have enough salt and therefor it isnt needed in water. So with 0,9% salt in water in those occasions u can even drink directly out of the baltic sea for quite a while. Not even kidding. Letting it cook for a while before would be smart tho. More relevant examples are regular water, mixed with salt water sources near the sea on some places. So salt water can actually be more useful than regular water in survival situations, if u dont overdo with the saltiness... The more u know... If u filter stagnant water good enough u can drink that too btw, what is easy nowadays with the right tools.... but yea it would be smarter to look out for a cleaner water than that and put it through the filter, to be sure and to spare the filter better. 15:38 Usually a bad idea as a main source, since this takes WAY too long, but yea it surely helps a bit.

They proved they could catch both fish and chicken. Difference is, once the fish is caught, you can't really just put it back, since it, you know, had a spear thrown at it. While the chicken was unharmed, and could just be released after proving it was doable.
