Hacking comedy | Baratunde Thurston | TEDxKC

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Often introduced as a technology-loving comedian from the future - Baratunde Thurston cares enough to engage the world socially and politically with his provocative brand of technology infused wit. In this hilarious talk, Baratunde shows us how to hack a few of our everyday digital experiences.
This talk contains profanity.
Baratunde Thurston challenges conventional narratives on race, technology and politics with his particular brand of intellectually charged humor. He is the CEO, co-founder and hashtagger-in-chief of Cultivated Wit. He wrote The New York Times bestseller “How To Be Black” and served for five years as director of digital for the satirical news outlet The Onion.

When Thurston’s not delivering keynote talks at gatherings such as SXSW Interactive, LeWeb and Personal Democracy Forum, he writes the monthly back page column for Fast Company and contributes to the MIT Media Lab as a director’s fellow. He co-founded the black political blog Jack and Jill Politics, has advised the Obama White House, has more than 10 years of experience in standup comedy, and more than 30 years’ experience being black. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Great food for thought. We spend a lot of time in serious thought about serious matters, when what matters most is having fun engaging each other, and exploring different perspectives. Your spin on comedy fells like an invitation to add the verbal chili sauce to a otherwise too familiar conversation.

Absurdism encourages individuals to break free from rigid belief systems and societal norms that dictate what is meaningful or purposeful. By acknowledging the inherent absurdity of existence, individuals are liberated to explore their own values, beliefs, and purposes without feeling constrained by external expectations.

this was so dope, i wish people on t.v. and such could be themselves instead of being a p.c. personality that every audience could relate, and also has to worry about what they say so they don't rub someone the wrong way and then get flamed one the news about their mistakes. Ya know what i'm saying, random person scrolling through the comments of a video on an endless hunger filled website of trying to fill in your free time and entertain yourself with meaningless content?

I mean give me a break I mean who are you people and who Do You Think You Are? Today on the beat I heard him say that Trump needs to dismiss Obama no that's the other way around. Obama and the people that support him have to do that to Trump. But it's kind of interesting however after 8 years they have to say vote for me and I'll make it better well why didn't you make it better in those eight years?
