Revisiting Oregairu years after high school feels like dipping back again into the uncertainty and the angst of the time, remembering not just the show, but who I was when I first discovered it. Sensei's advice hits home... it's amazing how vital it is to not only hear important words but get them *anchored* and processed, as I didn't take much notice of them when I was a highschooler. Still, I've learnt a lot since then and it feels cathartic to experience these scenes again, especially in such a great company with such insightful and endearing commentary, while having such a blast -- I called it Ed, I knew you'd have great time with Oregairu! And so am I with your reaction to it! Thank you for this series :)
I love how 8man's cute sister has the same voice actress as Tanya from Saga of Tanya the Evil. Aoi Yuuki is an awesome voice actress.
Agreed. One of my most favorite anime of all time.
The first part of season 1 was kind of playing it safe in my eyes tho it did build up the characters. The final arc, particularly episode 12, is from where Oregairu starts conveying some of its most powerful themes. In fact, they probably didn't expect a Season 2 when this aired so Season 2 recontextualizes this scene even more. Lastly, Yukino's "But I do know you now" is a reference to their united distaste for superficiality. Yukino thinks 8man played the villain, twice, in order to break down the barrier of superficiality surrounding other people. But as we've discussed, there might be a more deeply rooted reason for how he kind of ends up seeking after misery like that. Yes, the time constraint was pressurizing, and Sagami wasn't listening to positive reinforcements, but you can kinda see Hachiman ends up pushing and pushing to the point where he kind of forgets what his purpose was for starting to talk like that, before Hayato stops him of course.
You just talked about the jazz stuff and yukinos sister being the conductor makes me eagerly wanted to see you react to Hibike euphonium, it has those similar elements as oregairu and plus better animation and artstyle. Please have it in your watchlist
Looking forward to the Season 2 reaction. This is where the real thing begins.
Anime had to cut so much from the material it is covering this episode, and yet it is still feels like a complete product. The directors of this season were really good. Thanks for continuing this Ed.
"8man no!" I miss saying that. Also Sensei's the best, I wish I can be like Sensei.
I find it incredibly cathartic to watch a fictional character self-destruct. I’m not fond of them physically harming themselves, but witnessing someone do something like what 8man did in this episode scratches the same part of my brain as when Eminence in Shadow engages in his chunni shenanigans.
39:07 "Once a loner, always" Just no, that is absolutely wrong. No one is "always" something. If you tell yourself "I will always be alone", how are you going to make genuine friendships? It is a damaging thing to say to yourself
Happy that we already watching season 2. Rewatching it reminds me once again why I love this show 🥰
Bro please react to The Dangers in my Heart anime. It's also a romance anime with many psychological and philosophical meanings. I hope you will enjoy it too.
Ed not ready for S2
Good show! More please!
I mean, if you want to go in depth you should check the source material That been said, it's amazing how much you're getting just from your first time watching. The first time I didn't know what tf was going on
When's the next Mushoku ep?
I'm an old dude, and don't like to use terms like "peak" or "goat", especially because nowdays you hear it everywhere (inflation?), still those terms easily explain my appreciation for Oregairu. To this day nothing have surpassed it, after it ended I couldn't fully enjoy any other show, hence, as I said previously, Oregairu ruined anime and Light Novels for me. Still if I have to suggest you something after Oregairu, I would point towards Steins;Gate, which is still my number 2 by a large margin.

It’s a good binge watch just very predictable other than who the guy chooses at the end .

It would be much more productive to ask that on discord when we chose shows to watch.
