Her coaches when she was an elite and junior elite were some of the people body shaming her. In one video she said she was compared to a "bird who couldn't fly" and made to stand on a scale in the gym in front of others. It's pretty disgusting the way she and many other gymnasts are treated in the elite world.

Copper Rabbit Katelyn has been doing gymnastics her entire life and the only reason she never went to the olympics was due to injuries and as for her body, all powerhouse gymnasts, including Simone Biles and Shawn Johnson, are built that way. The reason they’re so powerful in their moves is because of their strength. Just because you don’t like seeing a strong female athlete who doesn’t fit your personal standards of beauty and is more successful then you will ever be, don’t go trying to tear her down for the sake of attention on the internet.

After the Larry Nasser fiasco it was discovered pretty clearly that a lot of politics were involved in the US Gymnastics team. And some very talented girls didn’t make the cut for some personal dispute somewhere. Some bad people ran gymnastics for a long long time. I hope after Larry Nasser raped like 265 girls across 14 years of gymnastics anyone associated with the coaching of USA Gymnastics should have been let go and never allowed back just in the principle that do many women have had their lives virtually destroyed during that time. I think that a lot of good gymnasts know that the process was not fair. Girls were cut from that team for trying to report that Larry Nasser raped them. That is some shameful stuff right there.

She was body shamed by Valeri Luikin when she competed in elite gymnastics from age 14 until she went back to level 10. She was told "it looks like you ate an elephant" or called a "cow". When she became injured and couldn't compete in elite (the level to the olympics), she only felt relief, because of all she had been through. She was the BEST elite gymnast for 2 years around age 13 and 14. The next amazing "it" girl. She struggled with feeling like she was worth nothing unless she was this tiny, thin, unhealthy size. I'm so proud of her and absolutely love watching her perform now at ucla. What an amazing inspiration.

No one else could do that fall from the air bounce split. That was incredible. I am still pretending to believe I saw it. All she needs to do is walk around and exclaim, "Is there no one else? Is there no one else?!?. Then just go and sit down. :) Obviously the, "Is there no one else," came from a Brad Pitt movie, Shame me for that if you must, but times are changing, so I believe this gal can say it as well. Anyway, I like the older style women's gymnastics more, not such an emphasis on power, but an emphasis on coordination and theatrics combined. My all time favorite is Olga Korbet. I'm just an old fart with a daughter in gymnastics and that is my thought on the matter. That said, I've never seen anything like Katelyn Ohashi. Awesome! Like totally dude. :)

It absolutely breaks my heart that, between injuries and bullies, she was almost driven away from gymnastics. Not only is being in so much pain so young a massive emotional drain, but being body shamed at the same time? Ugh. I have a swimmer friend that looks like Katelyn, and let me say: you don’t have legs like that unless you’re amazingly strong. That is the body of a power-based elite athlete! I’m so glad she loves gymnastics again. She seems to really love it now and she’s such a joy to watch.

Many have tried and failed to put down women who achieve real success. Haters and shamers are insecure and scared to step out of their comfort zone and become more than they are. Heaven forfend that a young woman achieves something more substantive than a flat stomach and a thigh gap (whatever the hell that is).

Seeing a lot of stupid comments regarding the bodyshaming in the title. If people looked up her background youd understand but since you wont, ill explain. You look at her and wonder how anybody could body shame this beautifully talented woman, but you dont know her past. She was on a junior nationals team from 2009 to 2013 (from 10 to 14 years old?) For young female gymnasts, size and weight make a BIG difference in how well you can perform. As you may understand, little girls dont build muscle as well as boys, so naturally they try to maintain a very low body fat ratio instead, diet plays a big part in young female gymnasts who compete seriously. Katelyn Ohashi had 3 problems. Getting older she was transitioning to a womans body, she suffered a shoulder injury that left her inactive for a little while, and like any teenager she liked junk food. Fans, critics, coaches, teammates, rivals, etc, told her they were worried about how big she'd gotten, and compared her to a bird that couldnt fly, that criticism drove her to stress eat. She didnt gain a lot of weight, but when youre 4 foot 9 and 85 lbs, even gaining just 15 lbs can seem cataclysmic, especially in such a highly stressful and demanding field as gymnastics. The criticism and negativity became a focus for her and threatened to drive her away from the only thing she loved to do, or at least she used to love it. She decided to give up a national pursuit of gymnastics and decided on collegiate level competitions, so she joined the UCLA team, and the support and guidance she got from her coaches and teammates there rekindled her love for it and helped her discover even more joy than she'd had before. she competed in 2015 and 2016, but in 2017 got her first perfect score on a floor routine, did it again in 2018, and now once again in 2019, except this time shes become an internet sensation. Keep in mind that she looks fantastic the way she does now because of 3 general things. Shes grown into a womans body (shes 21 now), shes been competing and training at level 10 for YEARS, and she loves what shes doing so no stress eating. If you look at her as she is now, No man in his right mind would bodyshame her, and no woman would dare because of her sheer talent. But she WAS bodyshamed, and the people commenting about how this video is some conspiracy to demonize men are absolute morons. I hope i got all the important details right, and i wish her happiness and the best of luck.
