I absolutely can empathize with this. I’m one of 4 daughters, & I heard, “Your poor dad” ALL the time. It certainly has stuck with me 30+ years later. My dad loved having his 4 girls. Now a mom to 3 boys, no girls, I NEVER get comments or apologies about having only boys. I do, however, get comments from mom’s with girls excluding me, saying I wouldn’t understand a particular situation with their daughter because I don’t have one. People need to be supportive instead of judgmental and inconsiderate. Thanks to this dad for speaking up!

@@abox6562 Any parent should probably feel as if they’ve won the jackpot, regardless of which gender their child is. And also each child is different; boy or girl, some are easier to raise than others. The most important thing is to probably teach them how to self-regulate their emotions so they can make good decisions for themselves and with consideration of others throughout their life.

My dad raised me and my sister by himself. He had to deal with all of our girl “problems,” like hormones and getting our periods. I have 6 daughters and no one has ever said “sorry” except for one lady. I felt sorry for her daughter! The question I do get asked often is, “Were you trying for a boy?!” “Uh, no”. Raising smart, kind, assertive and hardworking daughters- who are all best friends and absolutely hilarious together- is the greatest joy to me. Kids really do pick up and internalize everything they hear. Watching this segment, I remembered a good friend I had in elementary school. She was mixed race- her dad was white, and her mom was Jamaican. She was strikingly pretty. I remember every time an adult would call her “exotic looking” she would physically shrink a bit. It was so gross, and it was never something any of us kids said- just adults (teachers and sometimes strangers). I really sincerely hope that we don’t push these weird stereotypes anymore. Let’s uplift the next generation!

They were great kids, a definite handful, but great kids. Smart, inquisitive, and daring. Each one had their own unique personality. After three years i had to move due to work. We tried the long distance relationship and after a year we broke up. She found someone else and they got married. The man she married dotes on those girls and walked each one down the aisle. But I have stayed in touch with her and the girls. They're now thirty five and with families of their own.

Go Austin , Militarily Dad yet Girl Dad! 👍 America needs more considerate & caring Dads like you. Humility is strength under control. My husband, a former GM worker is also a father of 4 girls, & we got alot of "off the cuff" comments too. Especially b/c our 2 youngest are faternal Twins. When they were small most people assumed 1 was a boy, & would respond in shock that they were both girls with 2 older sisters. Now we're the grandparents of 4 Grandsons & only 1 Granddaughter. # go girls 👩‍🦱😍

I had a friend who was one of 10 girls! It was fun seeing so many different personalities in one family! 😄 By the way, I am one of 4 girls...and my mom always said it would have been fun to have a couple of more.

I will never comprehend how society continues to put down women/girls in every single way possible. Hardly anyone has any negativity toward all male families, but when it comes to all girls, oh, everyone starts grieving for the father as if his own children are a plague to his heart. I am 1 of 8 children, 7 of us being girls, and I honestly have never known a family more empathetic and funny than we are. It’s the type of dynamic of Pride and Prejudice or Little Women; so loving that it seems fake. My brother is the most gentle and compassionate young man I have ever known, and has always been proud to have so many sisters. A few times people have made comments about my dad having to “deal with us”, but he’s honestly never cared. I have relatives who’s kids are all boys-and they have their own struggles with them (ie. violence, injuries, yelling, anger issues, cursing, etc.) The point is, girl families are so fun and deserve to be respected just like all boy families. At the end of the day, all families can be beautiful.

Aww, brave and sensitive Daddy. I experienced a similar thing. When my Youngest and 7th Baby Boy was born I got a phone call while in the hospital....not a congratulations but I'm sorry you didn't get your girl. I did want a Daughter but we knew our last would be a boy and decided on the boy's names before he was born. The RN in our pediatrician office said the same thing to me. I understood but then it was hurtful. I wasn't disappointed.
