Gwar meets Joan Rivers 1990, best copy from master

We see a couple of poor quality uploads of this 1990 TV show featuring Joan Rivers interviewing Gwar, so here's a much cleaner dupe from a commercial master. The BetaGems channel also has "July 1989 music news: Batman guitar, Gwar interview," "Whoopie Goldberg on Joan Rivers Late Show 2-20-87," "Elton John jams with Cher and Joan Rivers 10-12-86," "The Bangles October 1986 late night TV performance" (including an interview with Rivers), and "1992 TV Hosts Buffalo Bob, Bozo, Soupy Sales" (a complete Joan Rivers daytime episode).
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on KZread or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

I love how despite her reluctance, Joan Rivers makes an honest-to-goodness interview out of it, and GWAR were such fantastic sports about the whole thing. Kudos to Joan as well, when she realizes that GWAR is a fellow comedy act and starts giving them the respect that they deserve.

I've seen them at least 19 times, most before Dave's death. Saw them in Boise a few weeks before he passed, and you could really tell something was off that night compared to previous shows. He seemed kind of lethargic on stage, and not really into the whole act. I just figured he was having an off night. Then a few weeks later he was dead of a heroin OD, and I figured he must have been high on stage that night. A true showman was lost. Dave used to say that GWAR is the band that can never die, because new musicians can just take over the characters, but that driving influence being lost definitely hurt. The shows have never been quite the same, and it took several years to recover, but they've finally got the stage show down to a really good level again under Mike Bishop, but the music still hasn't totally recovered. I'm going to see them again in a few weeks.

Agreed, this is the essence of humanity. GWAR is so important in that respect, in todays world of instant offence and political correctness GWAR confronted people with both unfamiliar yet natural ideas while being both hilariously obviously not true but at the same time containing deep down truths. So often humanity tries to pretend we are something we are not, so to have our animal nature projected as alien and then regurgitated to us theatrically allows us to accept ourselves and others because the juxtaposition of our differences is so large that it's easier to find common ground.
