    Yuh should read the history of indenture-ship. Cane field labor and transporting of human cargo was slavery, just like African slavery in the era of 1834. While African slavery concluded in 1834, Indian slavery went on until 1857. The British were in India, dominating the entire country choosing who were going to sold in that part of the world. When I see a group of people suffering or hear of an injustice toward a group of people, I am outraged and looking around for how/who/what will be their recompense. Not these people. They are truly their ancestor's children and will reap the wages of their (and their own) sins regarding slavery and its aftermath.

    Who should pay the reparations. The Black Africans who invaded, killed, and enslaved their neighbours as part of war and then sold their captives to fund their war? The Arab traders who acted as middlemen re-selling slaves to europeans and other arabs? or the European traders who purchased the slaves at coastal slaving forts? Who will pay reparations to the Europeans enslaved by Tunisian and Arab traders, some who were sold black africans? Just curious.

  • @Do-not-be-sheep

    @Do-not-be-sheep

    8 ай бұрын

    @@lihalt1916 Linda you really need to study history. Europeans did not entice the weaker Africans. In Africa as in Asia and Europe nations were at war with their neighbours not enticing was required by outsiders for wars that were steeped in centuries of enmity. No different than Europe. The difference was that Europe has abandoned taking slaves as booty but in Africa and the Arab world the taking of slaves was still considered fair game. These African wars were generating so many slaves that the value of a slave dropped to a very low level. Before this the Europeans were shipping indentured servants and prisoners to the New World as slaves but the African wars made African slaves a less expensive option. For perspective, when Caesar conquered Gaul he captured so many slaves that the resale value of slaves collapsed and many of the Gaulish slaves were resold to the middle east and Africa where they were valued for their lighter skin. There is no need for reparations to anyone by anyone. What is important is that Europeans abandoned the practice of slavery before Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The reality is today is that the free descendants of those slaves live a safer and much more productive life in the Americas than the African descendants of their shared ancestors.

    I’m African (Kenyan) British, I am in full support of British reparations. In the 1950s to 60s when Kenya was still a colony under British rule, the Mau Mau (a group) fought for the independence of Kenya (however they were terrorists) as a result the British took millions of Kenyans from their homes and put them into camps where they were tortured and killed in suspicion of being apart of the mau mau (group). This wasn’t hundreds of years ago, this was just last century. I grew up in the UK and the fact that this was never taught in schools is appalling… …but then again if the UK taught the history of all the atrocities they’ve committed then history classes would take up more than half of the school year lmao

    It was not even colonizing on the side. They did it as a primary occupation. They were profiting, and equipping their armies, developing their whole countries, with mineral resources they had stolen for centuries, and continue to benefit from, even as before. Of course reparations are owed. What is more important, and of an even more urgent consideration, is that simple, human dignity, compassion, and respect are also owed, but arrogant and ignorant of their own history leaves many unaware of how dependant they are of Africa's wealth.. This is recognition of a grave wrong being acknowledged, and confronted.

    You need to go to all the African Empires if you want reparations. They captured (with exception of the Portuguese who actually captured slaves themselves) and sold African slaves to the Europeans. If there was no ready made supply of slaves captured by Africans the Europeans wouldn't have traded with them. Not to lessen the responsibility of Europeans in the slave trade. It was a horrific time and European traders committed terrible crimes against humanity. But Africans were responsible for the capture and supply, Europeans for the demand and purchase.
