This cop is far from the worst cop and in many ways, better than typical cops. Sure, this cop implies that choosing to exercise the right to remain silent is somehow the same as being "difficult", which makes the cop kinda low IQ. But he didn't push the issue and he didn't try to retaliate by turning a warning into a ticket. If this was an example of the typical cop, then policing in the US would be much better. But the absolute truth is, this cop while not perfect, is a far cry better than the typical butt hurt cop who will escalate and retaliate.

Phone number? Sore spot for me. While registering a vehicle, my DMV asked for my phone number. I'd been quickly answering a string of questions and knee-jerk responded, providing it! (to my own instant shock and horror) I learned later they only do it to harvest data for the purpose of selling it to a third party. I started getting various calls and texts. Only some sleazy states do that. Other states (most I think) recognize it as unethical and predatory shenanigans.

Exit the Car: I am not a lawyer, but I do have good common sense. I know what people don’t like. I don’t know about you, but I think about how I am going to behave, probably press my luck during a bad traffic stop. Yes, it’s risky. But if we all do some of these things, there's a chance, better than we already have, a chance to change things. These days, without cause, without a minute of pause, they demand you get out of the vehicle. We can use this to our advantage, if you are a little frisky. How? But we can throw them a curve. 1. When a cop orders you to get out of your car. Don’t show disagreement. Exit, but tell him “Sure thing, would love to get out. Happy to get out. And let me share with you, that the second my foot touches the ground, I refuse to say anything else. I invoke my 4th and 5th Amendment. Do you still want me to exit my car? Because I was just looking for a reason not to say anything else. You will get nothing. Still want me to get out?” Once you say, “I don’t answer questions”, you don’t need to keep saying it. If you said you are not going to talk, then DON’T TALK. Then just grin. Say nothing, nothing. 2. We know, that asking or telling you to get out of your car is supposed to intimidate us. Well, let them think that. They will claim it’s for officer safety so they can pat, frisk or outright search the occupants. Let them. Remember if they have body cameras, they will say things to strengthen any claim they can make, to add charges, such as “don’t reach for my gun”. That works both ways. “HEY, Stop feeling my groin. Stop rubbing my butt”. 3. Tell, them, I don’t have to talk to you, I am not talking to you. Cops lie, so I don’t believe anything you say. Write the ticket and let me be on my way. I fear for my safety, but I will exit my car. I fear for my safety, because I am under duress. I am not doing you a favor. Your simple act of forcing me out of my vehicle is escalating the situation. I don’t answer questions. 4. These days the persons at risk are the drivers as the police routinely use any accusation from driver’s verbal abuse, to recording the police to escalate, using excessive force and violence to make an arrest. Then Don’t Talk to them. No matter what. 5. We know they are going to demand your driver license, registration and insurance on demand. Does it matter how we give them to them? If you are having a bad cop day, you just toss or drop them on the ground or out the window. Let them pick them up? Know of any requirement that says we must hand the papers to them? 6. And if you are really unhappy with this situation, you can do this: You can warn them, “I have a bad cold, I’ve been sick, I might cough or spit up on myself. You might want to back up. You’ve been warned, so snot on you is going to be your fault in court. A-a-a-Choo, well, just before you hand it to him, sneeze and cough. Sneeze and cough all over it. If you can (accidentally, of course) blew a big loogie or wad of snot on it, that’s even better. It is after all, your papers, and you are not blowing towards them. What are the odds that he will decide the traffic stop was not that important after all and just get back in his car and leave. Oh yeah, don’t forget to apologize for having a cold and being so sick. 7. Only case law that cops quote is Terry Stop and Pennsylvania v. Mimms. Often the cop will think he’s clever and quote as his justification to get people out of the vehicle Pennsylvania v. Mimms. They think this is a catch all argument to get you out of the vehicle. He is wrong 99% of the time. He fails miserable on the elements associated with Pennsylvania v. Mimms. Pennsylvania v. Mimms sets a standard that requires two components exist to make it legal for police to frisk someone at a traffic stop. One, the police has conducted a lawful stop. Second, an objective that the police must reasonably suspect that they person is harmed AND therefore dangerous. The U.S. Supreme Court deliberately linked ARMED and DANGEROUS. Both elements must exist. In order for police to bring people out of a car, both components must exist. For the second component, there has to be some OBJECTIVELY REASONABLE INFORMATION to the police that the occupant may be armed and is dangerous. Generally, there’s nothing the occupant can do at the scene, but reminding the police, warning the police of the absence of both these components will bring a lawsuit.

At 2:08: The corrupt officer must be talking to himself when he says "Do you want to be difficult?" He keeps wasting time fishing for a reason to charge the driver. He was very unprofessional.

Cops don't need to ask these questions at all. They do in order to hold their mighty powers over the victim and show who is the boss. When the victim won't play dat game, they get sad and confused. Mommy likely gets a fat lip that night.

literal presumption of guilt on everything just because you don't answer, just confirming for the nth time that cops view every citizen as a criminal and enemy if they don't bow and scrape to them on command

I have not been pulled over in 30 years. Of course I am white and I try to obey all traffic laws but, that never stopped the police from pulling someone over. Also, I make sure my vehicle is 100% legal, all lights working, I use my signal when turning or changing lanes, I follow the speed limit, etc. I did get pulled over in Rochester Hills Michigan for "driving while not black". I was driving an old ford with missing hubcaps while wearing a hoodie. When I stopped and the officer walked up to me you could see it on his face! He was shocked that I was an elderly white male. He claimed I was in the turn lane too long. He thought I was turning farther up the road but I was turning within 20 feet to enter a gas station. He called me a liar but didn't write me a ticket. I dared him to do it and told him I would be filing a compliant. The complaint went no where. Earning the hate.

I regularly drive an interstate highway to and from my home. A majority of vehicles drive 15-20 mph over the posted speed limit. No police patrol for speeders. So, why are cops assigned to stopping people for turn signal violations? Police could literally choose from hundreds of dangerous speeders in the same time they spend searching for a negligent turn signal.

He should have told him if he wanted to do an investigation about what his number was and where he lived, it would be fine with him. I hate when they want you to investigate you, making their job easy, or getting information just for their curiosity.

Had to check with a few people but if he marked him as unemployed and he is in fact employed, it's a false record and the ticket is null and void. Even if it was just a warning,it will be nulled off his record as if it never happened because "submitting improperly filled out paperwork is illegal." In this defamatory. If his address is correct and he marked it incorrect, same thing.

He had insurance just not a up to date card. When the officer came back he said he checked and his insurance was good when he ran his plate number. If he didn't have insurance guaranteed it wouldn't of been a warning.
