    I'd say he's like the definitive highschool freak-of-nature. He's so relaxed and just doesn't seem to give a hoot, and usually that comes out in your playing. Especially when you study the instrument as much as this guy does, I dont think I've ever seen a photo of guthrie not either: a) reaching for his guitar, b) holding a guitar, or c) talking about guitar/music, so that will help. Practice makes perfect.

    That's a very explored right hand struck amongst nylon guitar players in more "aggressive" or fast-paced music, like in flamenco, some classical music, and styles derived from Iberian music, in South America. This is very common is some fast-paced Milonga variants. Also performed by many steel strings players. That looked very much Trace Bundy.

    Right...just tried it lol. Can do it OK with a card (not as fast as him tho), but on the strings it doesn't translate. Firstly, It's a wider range for the sweep when actually playing that just knocking a card between your fingers. Second, theres actual resistance when strumming that isnt there just slapping something back n forth...so the pick just ends up getting hung up between strings

    @@peterkung6793there’s no way you counting every stroke while playing that. Idk how long you’ve been playing but you’re more sectioning out the licks, kinda like syllables in a word. You’d count to like 32 in like 3 seconds if he was counting all them strokes going that fast. You should be able to hear a tapestry in your head as you play and hear the drum kicks to keep letting you know that you’re not off beat.

  • @peterkung6793

    @peterkung6793

    9 ай бұрын

    @@AntiMason I don't quite understand what you mean, however what I mean is if each beat has 4 notes, you will be counting 1,2,3,4. Then repeat 1,2,3,4 and so on. If each beat has 6 notes, then count 1,2,3,4,5,6 and then repeat 1,2,3,4,5,6. And so no. When speed up very fast, you may not be able to count all the numbers, but you must still be able the count the no.1 at the right time. If not, the playing is definitely out of beat.

    @@metalguitaridk drugs is a big generalization. As long as he stays away from the hard stuff, he’ll be fine. Very many guitarists have dabbled and still do dabble in psychedelics. Tim Henson and Guthrie Govan being some of them. It’s the addictive substance that are evil. Mushrooms and LSD are quite mellow, and not addictive. So I agree with you to an extent, but I don’t think anybody is as good as Tim Henson. A lot of govan’s single work is good, but it doesn’t have those catchy henson Melodies like polyphia. I believe Tim Henson is the current best, but of course that’s just my opinion. All of the greatest players are generally on the same level, and can make their instruments speak.

    The best teachers are the ones who learn the hard way! Listen and play by ear, go watch other local bands, steeling picks from other great players in order to absorb their skills and playing along to your fav CD’s while using the same pick you stole and sometimes drop tuning when callus gets bad or when you throw a jam out party and don’t want to sound like you can’t strike a clean chord. So in order to train the beginner, we must “be” the beginner.

    From the standpoint of pure technical skill and musicality, he is the best that has ever lived...IMHO. He has mastered every genre, every technique and the style of every guitarist with a significant body of work. Guthrie's talent is just mind-blowing.
