@@terrirood8407 I'm the youngest of 9 kids and almost 50 years old now, with 25 nieces and nephews, some who are only 5-6-7-8-9-10 years younger than me; so I grew up with my own siblings getting parenting lessons from my parents and I heard my dad tell them repeatedly that "children crave discipline and it is the responsibility of parents to provide it." He also used to quote the book of Sirach chapter 30 a lot.. "make heavy the yoke, lest their folly be your embarrassment, for when the father is gone, he leaves one like him in his place." What is a "perfect" parent anyway? No shortage of mistakes in my duties, but no shortage of successes either because my kids knew I was in charge, like I knew my dad was in charge when I was a boy. Kids without leadership grow up unruly and make bad leaders themselves.

Not having to come inside until the street lights came on. I knew my neighbors names and the adults names also... now , not so much. To flip that around a bit, practically every innovation in content production media for centuries has been met originally with breathless wonder over the boon each represented to education and culture. From the printing press, to radio, to television, to computers, to the Internet itself. You'd think we would've learned at some point that no matter what medium is used to facilitate human communication, humans themselves have not changed essentially, and we need to approach each advancement with skepticism, and perhaps at least attempt to install guardrails to keep our kids from ingesting the deluge of raw human crap before they're ready to assess it objectively. As one whose life has been negatively impacted by early exposure (age 12) and addiction to that thing (not sure I can specify that more clearly here) that so many young boys fall into, I can say that I totally support the motive behind DeSantis' initiative on this. I accept the blame for my actions/decisions then and since then, but I often wish someone had been more watchful and diverted me from that to more wholesome and age appropriate endeavors. The lingering effects have tainted every relationship I've had since. Wanting to protect kids from that is not prudery; it's love in action.

Many years ago I paid bills by working in hollywood. TV, movies, the usual. We got jobs by calling Central Casting - as often as you could throughout the day. Sometimes, they called you. This wasn't easy if you were working. I was the first person I knew to get a cellphone. Parts flipped out (not a flip phone), pull the antenna out, etc. Nobody else on set had one for a while but me. Everyone survived. Work got done. Kids got to school. Cows got milked. Kids don't need cellphones. Not one bit. I'm totally against it. Parents, do your parenting.

It’s a great bill Florida. I know many tweens and teens will absolutely hate this……but we all have seen a rise in teen suicide, kids are anxious and cannot concentrate , plus being addicted to your device is a real thing. Most people blame schools for the lack of education their kids are getting, yet it’s the same parents who buy their kids phones on demand. Like yourselves I’m sure that they’ll do fine without a phone. Schools were always able to get a hold of parents and I’m pretty sure that hasn’t changed. So there’s no excuse to have a phone in school.

ID? How is that going to work? I used to run a BBS in the 90's. I refused to have adult material because I already knew that when you ask them to mail a copy of their ID, they mailed you a copy of a parent's ID. We had a fairly large number of BBSs hit over underage people partaking of adult content, then I was sure I had made the right choice just to not have any of that. Parents need to BE parents!
