    Izzy is the one guy, eternally linked to G N’ R at it’s most awesome, that absolutely refused to let himself be defined in any way by its slow and painful dissolution. He walked on his own terms, returned on his own terms and had absolutely no desire to stick around longer than he felt he needed to. Difficult to refute: he wrote the absolute best material on every record he played on. Think About You is the secret heart of Appetite for Destruction (the brilliant rhythm guitar that made them famous throughout the world).

    It's not very difficult to refute, it's very easy actually. No he did n't write the best material. Unless you think crap, like Dust N' Bones, You Ain't the First, Bad Obsession and Double Talkin' Jive are "the best material" in which case you'll be a moron, I'm sorry and Think About You is as cheesy as they come.

    Giorgi Kobalava Fine, I’m a moron. Remind me though: Who the fuck wrote Pretty Tied Up; You Could Be Mine; and Don’t Cry? So, yeah, not the standout stuff at all. Also, I stand by my comments with regards to Think About You - If you’re too dense to see that it’s the most bad-ass rhythm guitar part on the record, that’s your problem.

    I've always believed that the $$$ that GNR owed Izzy was some sort of payment or partial payment of selling his share to the band. I wonder if there was any discussion between them of him coming back to the band full time? Maybe the financials and paperwork wasn't finalized yet for him leaving. Makes u think

    @Mike Perri anything Izzy writes is great. I believe with what Izzy contributed to GNR is irreplaceable. His riffs and lyrics are second to none in that group. Of course Slash has written some of the greatest solos ever but Izzy's riffs were better. At least 6 of the songs from the ju ju hounds album could have been on a new GNR album. No Izzy = No GNR

    I don't get Axl's rant in Boston. Wasn't Izzy completely sober by 1993?

  • @yerzaat

    @yerzaat

    5 жыл бұрын

    Izzy was completely sober 1993 and no meter how he's approached those shows it couldn't be so erratic as Slash and Axl stated. On oppose , Slash, Axl and Co. were pretty fucked up by that time and all together they haven't clicked well in terms of a vibe and the feel. Milton Keynes gigs they've just nailed, after previous 3 shows they've managed to adopt to each other again. But question is how high and on what Axl was in 2002. when he did that BS rant and why did he do it, on the first place. Maybe he has heard the news about The Project ( Velvet Revolver) and 4 ex Guns playing together again. Anyhow, pretty bizarre attempt to denounce Izzy, but 100% Axl style.

    Saying he was whacked out of his mind may referance drug use, or just that Izzy wasn't mentally in to it, and was maybe there just to recoup his money, and even though he had rehearsed for a couple days doesn't mean he had all the material down. I'm just speculating of course. I know the 91 shows were more raw and true to old GNR, but when gilby joined the band did sound tighter and more well rehearsed especially on UYI material which they did start touring before the album was even done. You hear early versions of November Rain in 91 than after the albums are released in 92 and it's a big difference in terms of all band members ability to pull it off, and yes I understand more musicians were on stage (piano, shmths, etc).

  • @yerzaat

    @yerzaat

    5 жыл бұрын

    @Dan Melvin UYI albums were released September 91, but you are right about differences . Izzy had no access to the mixing, producing and rearranging UYI material. Him self said that he couldn't believe what came out from the speakers when he's heard CDs first time ( especially pointing at the My World tune and dominating Slash's guitar sound). First versions and recordings of November Rain date back to 1985. When Izzy rejoined in 1993, Gn'r were not carrying "big band" anymore.

  • @danielmelvin4525

    @danielmelvin4525

    @@yerzaat right yeah I mean technically uyi was recorded when they started touring but Izzy's leg of the tour was before the release in September 91 . The album wasn't completely mixed, mastered, etc when they hit the road in May-Aug 91. I thought I had edited my original post, to talk about how Izzy was sort of.cut out of the mix of UYI albums as well. Alot of times if your hearing two guitars it's slash doing a doubled track. I'm aware novemember rain was an old song, but what it was in 85 t to when it was played live may-Aug 91, to released, to how it was performed live post UYI albums release is different. I really meant how the song and band on everything from UYI sounded live during the big band aspect of the tour the whole band sounded very tight and polished when gilby joined up with them. Not to take anything away from Izzy's contributions to the band which were absolutely vital to their sound and success.

  • @yerzaat

    @yerzaat

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@danielmelvin4525 absolutely. Didn't want to oppose you, just wanted to highlight certain things ;). Most of UYI tracks; you hear 3 guitars as Slash's been doubled Izzy's tracks. On Civil War, there's no Izzy at all. Reason? Steven and Izzy were perfect match ,able to create unique kind of a groove. With Izzy's guitar on the track Civil War would sprinkle too much from the rest of the album. Just listen to the live performance on Farm Aid. No meter how erratic it was, the groove was tremendous.

    Dude I got what you want on 15:50 ..May 26 - 1993 - Istanbul TURKEY . - I was 23 and it was ''the'' most Rocking day of my life . Well..at least first of the many ..At first opening band was SOUL ASYLUM. They were one of those MTVs alternative one hit wonders back in the day. I cant clearly remember what happened but G'nR switched the opening band and brought BRIAN MAY BAND with COZY POWELL on drums .LEGENDS !! - (thank god)- . Gn'R was late ( as usual ) when they rushed on stage with ''It's so Easy'' lights blinded me for a few good sec, when I got used to it, first I saw Axl in his red Manson t-shirt says ''Charlie Don't Surf'' on the back and I spotted IZZY's dreadlocks . I rubbed my eyes and looked again,yeah it was IZZY in the flesh.. Dammit .It was a total goosebump . I feel so f***n lucky to see the whole gang .I remember every single detail from that show but I hate typing. I tell ya later on I promise . I still got the ticket and my GET IN THE RING MF tour shirt .. SPOILER : I saw IZZY with AXL again years later . Never believe when AXL says ''Never Again'' and remember why they call it ''Not in this lifetime tour'' :) To be continued .. ( if you dont mind )

    That is so sad that they erased it all and rerecorded it. I mean, they had to do what they had to do or what they felt was right, I understand that. Yeah, I knew they had already worked on some of that earlier. I heard it mentioned in a few interviews where they said we will be putting out a punk album after the tour, etc. Something along the lines of having worked on it some.

Do you know a lot of people who can just party with brown and coke time to time and not get hook ? Not saying axl did not, but it always bugged me. i suppose that the fact he was under psychiatrist supervision, he probably noticed it was making his psychotic episodes worst when he was on drugs or just mixing really bad with his treatment... I remeber during this video fimed in court he mentions he was taking a lot of pills "not really knowing what it was for and if it was prescribed by a doctor or not. He has never been very vocal in interviews about his drug use as far as my gnr knowledge goes but for sure not as slash or duff. But they are not playing in the same category of junkies ^_____^✓
