Gun Restoration | Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammer, (with test fire)!
Ойын-сауық
#restoration #restore
Here is an amazing part of design history for colt modern handguns. The restoration of the colt Model 1903 pocket hammer. The Colt pocket hammer was modeled after the Colt sight safety and Colt 1902 Sporting and military models. This model has no slide stop or safety. This model was different from the 1911 in the fact that it had two barrel link pins rather than just the one. The 1903 also had a huge design flaw. The rectangle locking pin at the front of the slide could brake sending the slide right into your face since the takedown of the slide was in reverse of the 1911. All in all the model had its drawbacks and maybe one positive. This pistol was ambidextrous due to no slide stop or external safety. Hope you enjoy the video and as always thanks for watching. Samuel Colt died in 1862, so even though this model is carrying his name, it was not designed by him, but by John Moses Browning. But don't get me wrong. I think that this is one of the nicest looking designs of a handgun ever made, especially in the hammerless version. Maybe only put in the shadow by the Luger 08.

Ya they had a few trial and errors before they got to the 1911. Ya for sure. Thanks for watching
Great job! I'd be proud to own that old Colt. And compared to that first view of the barrel? Shot out out or not, you made it work. Some pilots in WWII would carry their own personal pistols. I can imagine some young pilot in WWI having that Colt from home with him in his jacket in case he needed to make a forced landing.

Nice looking pistol. It looks like somebody probably carried that thing every single day for a very long time. I wonder how many rounds it took to wear out the barrel like that? From the sounds of it, it seemed like the bullets were tumbling when they left the barrel at least half of the shots you fired.
@TheKinzlerBros

Thanks, I like it too. It takes so many clips to make a bore smooth like that. Thanks for watching

I imagine one could just hand load 38 super ammo to the lower pressure of the older cartridge since they are dimensionally identical.
@TheKinzlerBros
26 күн бұрын
Yes you absolutely can do that all you need is to know the load and fps. I believe now I do not re load ammo and I’m not well versed in the procedures in re loading. But I read on a forum that you can do this yea. But .38 acp is available online. That’s where I got the cartridges to fire this colt. They are loaded to period cartridges that the firearm was designed for. But that doesn’t mean that one of these old colts can’t fail upon firing. Which is really scaring to think about if that from barrel link pin failed and the rectangle pin failed the slide could become a projectile directly at your face. Sorry for the long response. Thanks for watching

I love the bare metal after sandblasting..everything clean and new-looking again...and the metallic clinks as all the parts go back together.. I guess Im just weird. Hey, you mix a new batch of blueing every episode, can't you re-use the batch, or does it go bad or something?

Unless that gun was a range gun at a shooting club or some such I find it hard to believe that one shooter actually put that much lead down one barrel. That isn't a hot round. Even if you had new rifling cut the bore might be to large. At ten feet or so it might still hit.
