For around $20 that's a very fair price, the joysticks also came out more compact than I thought which is very nice. GOOD WORK!

@@deifr I think he is not designing a controler, but rather improving or replacing a very common failure point on most modern controllers. And if he manages to create properly working hall effects for standar controller pcbs, he will make a lot of people happy and a lot of companies miserable and hopefully, he gets well deserved cash for it.

Funny part is that a few consoles way back in the day used hall effect sticks but nobody does now because they want to use the cheapest parts so you keep coming back to buy more controllers

@@MariusHeier1 yeah need the support of the likes of Lous Rossmann, Linus Tech Tips, Gamers Nexus, JayzTwoCents, Paul's hardware (all youtubers) and the other major players in the consumer tech field. hitting those players will land you in the market of people who are impacted by these controller drift problems and have an interest in the tech that would result in controllers that last more than 30 days. There are many more but these are the big players

...seems there is maybe much easier solution, not sure for dimensions, but PS3 4 pin replacement "potentiometer" is in fact a hall sensor with P1, P2, Vcc and GND, where P1 and P2 are voltages that are basically same when joystick is in neutral position, and start drift apart, aka make voltage difference when joystick goes in either side, where by moving it to one side P1 goes up, while P2 goes down and vice versa... it is small difference but a op amp could do the trick... Chasing for those now...

I’m modding my controller bc it’s coming to the end of its life and i just so happen to stumble across your channel and found out this and your usb-c mod. If you come out with a full ps4 circuit board with the joysticks and usb-c I’d totally buy it!

The PS4 controller is my favourite controller of all time, it's ergonomically perfect as I have smaller hands and the official sony back button hit is unlike anything available for the PS5 or Xbox controllers. Your USB C V3 mod is gorgeous and is without a doubt extending the life of my controller, and these would be an awesome upgrade too!

I'm looking to buy one. This is very interesting. Hopes it goes on sale very soon. 🙏🏼

YES please make these available if they are 100% operational in all variations of the DS4, where some take 10k, 2.3k and so on pots. Also if possible make then wholesale where they can be purchased for a savings at 100 count increments please and thank you.

That's some fantastic work. This is exactly what the community needs, a reasonably priced, minimalistic solution to stick drift. One question though, how well does it fit under the thumb stick? It looks 50% thicker than the original pot.

I've been looking and hoping for a controller manufacturer to finally do a DS4 layout with hall sensors but every controller with hall sensors is in (S)NES or Xbox layout for some reason. A kit like this would be even better I think as I've got five DS4 controllers, definitely upgrading to hall sensors when it becomes available.

Thank you for all those kind words. Its going to be harder to install the first time than the second time. But I will try to make a good guide on it when it comes to the joysticks. Its kinda half the product, how easy it is to install. Usbc already have a guide. And its fairly easy to do..but im sure there are people who find it hard. But that is how it is to become good at something, one has to start out bad. 😎i think the ds4 also is the best controller ever. But its also the most sold controller.

Companies like Sony and Microsoft use alps BECAUSE it has stick drift. It means that they can keep selling you crappy controllers every time it starts to drift.

This would be amazing! Outright the last joystick replacement you’d ever need to do on a controller! My only question though is about calibration. Could these be calibrated? Each PS4 & PS5 controller is generally a little different so sometimes I have to try out a few replacement joysticks before I find one that matches the original enough not to cause stuck drift. Is there a way to do that with these?

Tested that part today. Worked great. Its gonna have a calibration routine for each controller that is setup with a button and a software on a normal computer, probably just with the webbrowser. Obviously needs testing on more controllers. Worst case it can be programmed by a programmer, a seperate device. But that would be extra costs. Try with buttons first.

Is it possible that the joysticks ship with the motherboard already sod in. It would take that problem off i think. And for the value i would pay 40/50€ for the all thing. And sure you can make the motherboard black to look like the usb-c board, very pretty.

I'll be interested too. This is sick. This with usb c mod, decade mod pack from extremerate. And you have yourself a top of the line controller. And then brook will make a ps4 to ps5 adapter and that's the end game.

Nice workaround 👍🏼 did you look into the details of the original Dualshock3 that came with hall-sensors? I just took apart the Dualshock3 controller that came with my PS3 back in 2009 and it has hall-sensors installed which is crazy to see.

The Dreamcast from Sega was so ahead of its time, the controllers used hall effect. Never had drift issues.

When it's released, I'd buy it to refurbish my old PS4 DualShock 4 controllers and make it better (as far as life expectancy of the thumbsticks go). And I am debating getting the USB-C board for them both too.

I had a thought. Considering DS4 and DS5 use the same joystick module… wouldn’t your kit also be a solution for Hall effects on the DualSense 5 ???

More then likely since the thumb sticks are basically the same as the ps4. Just need to have out main man here handle all the heavy lifting lol

I just came back to this video to bring up something I haven't seen other people mention about the Gulikit Joysticks. The joysticks (at least in my controller) ping backwards when I flick them meaning that if I flick the stick in one direction, the magnets will ping back to the middle but before they do that they sort of bobble in place slightly. It's really brief but it actually causes a flick to the right to also input a little to the left (unless you have really large dead zones but then what's the point in the hall effect sticks?). Anyway, I'd thought I'd just say to look out for that in your design because it was something I didn't expect and can be fairly annoying. :)

@@jon_franklin I did the same test with my PS4/XB1/Wii U controller and they all wobble just like you shown in your video. That's a good observation. I wonder if using a different grease would help with this, sorta acting like a damper.

They will work on about 80% of all gaming systems, because that is how big market share the company who sell them has. If i get them to work the way i want. Just a few more days, and i will know for sure 100%.

I might not want one for my DS4... but I would LOVE to see something like this for the Logitech G13.

This seems awesome. I unfortunately would not trust myself to install such things considering I have ruined a couple controllers by opening them up and trying to clean them (didn't help that Sony made then easy to ruin due to being cheap). I'd rather send in the controller and have the experts do it lol.

I don't think people think about this but they might not get stick drift but that plastic and spring under the stick will still eventually wear down and the stick will start becoming looser n looser feeling til it is almost like drift because it wont spring back to center it will just take 3 times as long I still love these things just want to point that out.

Wow. I am really really interested in something like that. How difficult would it be to put it together? I am horrible at soldering though.

My goal is to have it be a very easy soldering job, with good instructions. Dont need to solder the whole joystick. Just the potmeters on it.

I'll take a few for sure. Only controller to ever implement this kind of tech was the Sega dreamcast controller.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!! Seriously though, I found your USB-C board when looking for a battery upgrade for my controller and was inspired to go all out. I am now working on creating the most tricked out Dualshock 4 ever complete with USB-C charging, a 2600 mAh battery, hall effect joysticks, and maybe even a custom fit grip if I can ever save up enough for a 3D printer.

These would be interesting as a module for custom robotics controllers, which might use 3 or 4 joysticks at a time. Pi Pico W just got bluetooth support, do you think it would be difficult to interface?

For a robotic controller you would probably not even need it. Unless its used alot. Like a gaming controller. But there are lots of interesting stuff that can be done with 3d hall sensors for custom controllers as well.

Haha I did this around the same time. Pretty much same result. Have you tried using the board of the Gulikit? Going to try that next ... eventually. Or at least see what voltages come out of the board when powered by a PS4 controller.
