@@Guitargate Nice video. It might be fun to review some Steven Segal guitar playing. There are a couple of live clips on youtube but they are short and not as good as his albums. I'm checking out this album also on youtube of his called "Mojo Priest" . A lot of good songs. His singing is also good, a little like Bob Dylan, not quite as mannered and has a good blues feel. Apparently he was playing before acting (a lot better than)

@chrisharp43022 жыл бұрын
Great video. Thanks for doing it. Discovered this band in maybe 2014 or so, and to this day I still remember where I was the first time I heard them and as soon as I heard that first line: "Well she was born in the morning, late October, San Antone. She's every girl I've ever known." and the twang of the bass and lead electric came in and I was hooked. I also remember when this was their newest album and where I was when hearing The Bird Hunters for the first time. I know everyone has their preferences and this is indeed one of their most popular songs, but it is absolute poetry and is one of my favorite songs period. Just the way the story around it comes to life with almost zero literal details about what the story is between him and the girl. There's never been any song that I can think of that's been written in a way that makes your head fill in the story so naturally. A Belgian-made Browning....those shotguns are no longer made in Belgium and if you've got one, it's probably a family heirloom (side note: in "The House Fire" they mention an old "Auto 5", which is the same gun). He says "a" Belgian made Browning, where he could have said "my" so for me, either he left his gun with Danny or Danny let him borrow it, which speaks to the depth of their trust and friendship. Jim, the old hunting dog....if you've got a good bird dog, you just don't give that up lightly, so this girl he moved for must have hit him hard. And there's so many more of these little details that just give so much depth to this story without coming out and literally telling you how he felt. Anyway, I know you're mostly focused on the stringed instruments here, but TT fans don't get many reaction vids and now that they're back together, I just felt like adding my buck o five.

Had the pleasure of seeing these guys a few times live. Absolutely killer lineup! One of the few bands I listen to every song off every album. Evan Felker is one of the best storytellers in music. Hands down.

One of the best writers around, going to see them in June, I don't remember the last show I have anticipated this much
Every time i hear this song it makes me proud to be living in Oklahoma and to have grown up 10 minutes away from Tahlequah the town were Turnpike Troubadours was formed
THE TROUBADOURS ARE BACK!! Please do more of this I can’t get enough of your genuine love for music. You can tell the passion you have and it’s amazing. 7&7 by the troubadours has some great guitar playing!!
They’re one of the greatest bands of all time IMO. The Housefire and Fall Out Of Love are both especially wonderful.
My favorite band. The first time I saw them was in Charleston at a tiny venue called the The Pour House, and then later I got to see them from the 2nd row at Red Rocks.

“Your tan legs checkered from a folding chair” Just such vivid imagery.
“1968” and “Easton and Main” You have got to check those out.
Turnpike is the best! Diamonds & Gasoline is some of the sweetest sounding acoustic guitar and is the title song to a badass album

I agree. The writing in this song is amazing. "The country was cold, with the sun westward sinkin'" you FEEL that when he sings it.
Diamonds and gasoline is one of my favorite songs, just randomly found them a year ago.
5:30 That's such sweet teaching right there. Telling us exactly how to lead into the fill lick with the major third, and then complete as desired. And man, it's that spice that you love, even though you may not hear it, it's how the song makes your soul sing.

Right on, brother! Keep on keeping on. 3 years sober coming up next month, for me. 👊
Broken Window Serenade by Whiskey Myers needs done!
Finally!!!! I’ve been hoping you’d find these guys they’ve gotta be my favorite band/group of all time. So glad you found them. This isn’t even close to their best if I had to recommend one only it’d probably be 1968.
I just discovered these guys this year and I'm really impressed. Such a full sound.
Turnpike Troubadours and Whiskey Myers have made some the very best music of the last decade. I'm pumped you just discovered them.
You should really check out more of their stuff. They have some phenomenal stuff. They have been broken up for a while but have just reunited and started touring again.
I love that you pop up here with my favorite bands in consideration! I had tickets to a music festival to see these guys years back in Idaho that I had to miss. I still have not been able to see them live and I know they’ve been around for a while. I guess I need to head south. I’m in Oregon. Love this band!!!

Yes!!!!! I’ve been waiting on you to do a Turnpike song and this a top tier tune by them. Lyrically, musically, it’s just… the best. I haven’t even watched the video yet but I know you’re going to love them. My favorite band of all time!
FINALLY!!!! I’ve literally hoped you would do this song for so long
Love the Troubadores! Always look forward to a nice alternative country review! Keep up the great work man!
I love it that Michael loves the down-home stuff. He’s on the same level as any of the great players and reviewers, but you never hear them say “straight down the middle and awesome!” And he loves the words of the songs! Yes! This was a great lesson, too. Thank you!
One of the best bands all around ! I’m glad they got back together. Glad to see them getting represented on this channel🙌🏼
Huge love for this channel. Got to appreciate a guy who can get just as pumped up for Pantera as he can for turnpike. Keep on keeping on!!!
Old video, but man people like you that can watch or hear a song and immediately have the "ear" are incredible to watch, even better when they break it down for those of us who just make racket when playing. Great video all around for a great song.
Gin, Smoke and Lies is one of the best damn Turnpike songs out there. Check it out Michael.
That chorus is sweet. It reminds of the chorus from Paradise by John Prine.

gotta be an intentional interpolation
One of my favorites. Their ability to tell a story while weaving in complex yet beautiful music is amazing
The Turnpike Troubadours are quite possibly the best ever Country band.
7:37 John Fullbright sitting in on keyboard/accordion. His 2012 album "From the Ground Up" was Grammy nominated for best Americana album. I've listened to that album more than any other in my life. I love what you do Michael. Great content.

Finally the greatest living songwriter makes it on the channel! Each Turnpike tune you listen to is better than the last!
Let’s gooooo, one of my favorite TT songs, absolute killer tune
These guys are no joke solid. Glad u found them. Long time go-to.
I've been meaning to check this band out for quite some time! Really good stuff!
My first listen to these guys, very reminiscent of the Drive By Truckers
The best part is they're back together!
That riff you did at the very beginning had me going, "GIMME ONE REASON TO STAY HEAR," and I appreciate that haha
Started listening to these guys 4 or 5 years ago and they are now in my top 3 fav bands of all time. Had tix to see them in my hometown in Ohio and they cancelled and broke up right before. So glad they got back together and I'll get another opportunity to see them live
Glad you finally did a Turnpike song, the rest of their songs are equally as great!
It’s nice to see you enjoy the song, sometimes silence tells all. Great video!
I heard their name before but never checked them out. This is awesome. It’s like all my influences in one band. A little classic rock, a little classic country, and a whole lot of poetry. This song is great and I’m checking them out!
Saw these guys live around Austin and what a great concert. Hard to find talent that applies live and not just in studio.
Thank you for making the guitar fun...... again ♥️
When that fiddle pumps it up after that build up it’ll give ya goose bumps live !!!
Long live Turnpike Troubadours. My #1 favorite band of all time. And I've thought about it a lot.
You need to listen to Pay no Rent by this band, such a well written song!!!!
I own all their albums and they are all amazing. I just discovered them 3 years ago and can't believe they remained hidden for so long.
Hell yeah I’ve been wanting a video on these guys for so long, probably my favorite band out there. They play so well together, I’m sad they ended up splitting.

They are back together. Just starting to tour again. I tried to buy tickets today to see them at Cain's Ballroom in April. Kane is one of the first places they played when they were taking off. General admission tickets went from $312 to over $1,200. But they are one of my favorites.
Yep gonna need you to do more of these guys.
They are coming back on tour. Please check out more of their stuff. Amazing songwriting!
God I love the Turnpike Troubadours. I thought I didn't like country music until I found them. I love their whole catalogue. Diamonds and Gasoline is one of all time favorite albums. Evan is an amazing songwriter and the band members are great players who fill out every song so nicely. I wouldn't change a note. I have also had the privilege of seeing them live a couple of times. They are a great live band. I love turning people onto them. I have left many a Turnpike Troubadour fan in my wake. Check 'em out.
I was at this ACL City Limits, best show I have been to.
these guys are the best story tellers
My favorite Turnpike song!!!!! AMAZING
Love you found TT. Please look at “before the devil knows we’re dead” if you want fast paced amazing story telling

Cherokee county=Cherokee County, Oklahoma, which is where Tahlequah, Ok, is, also the location of Normal Street. Also, the main setting of Where The Red Fern Grows.
7:45 Mike catching these type lines is why I watch
Yes. Thank you so much. Keep listening to them, though it's not shown here their guitar player can rip.
Can’t believe you’re just now finding turnpike! Imo they’re the best country music act of all time. They have 4 albums and each one is absolutely killer.
Me at 14:00 - “GO TO THE A MICHAEL!!!” I love your videos, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who experiences rough days….
By far my favorite band on the Planet
the natural ability you have has me envious to the extreme. i have an ear but couldnt play to save my life

Greatest song ever
God I love this song!
Love Turnpike. Turnpike Troubadours perform "Gin Smoke Lies" on The Texas Music Scene is fantastic. Song is great. Check out the Quaker City Nighthawks 'Fox in the Henhouse' Jam in the Van version.
MAN! I LOVE WHAT YOU DO! the different genres. DO CODIENE by trampled by turtles
Not the most complicated music (last thing I listened to from you was Snarky Puppy), but I love it. Really well crafted and unexpected chord progression.
Can't wait to go see them in Helotes in May.
Long drive home by them made me cry 😢
I love those two lines where he plays with your ear a little bit using words that start with the same letters the two “D’s” back to back and then the next line after the two T’s back to back “A Dozen December’s” and “Time spent in Tulsa” one would think that’s got to be on purpose
Saw them at Red Ants pants in Montana White Sulphur Springs unreal so sweet powerful band
About time you did a reaction on Turnpike lol. Evan is a great songwriter and the band jams. Kind of like Tyler Childers, this band is country as hell and there's so much feeling and authenticity in their sound. Take a listen to Diamonds and Gasoline, Pay No Rent, Old Time Feeling Like Before
If you want to have some fun, check out The Mercury. Great guitar piece, my band performed it a couple of years ago and it was a crowd favorite. When I suggested it to my guitar player he said "That's a lot of words, can you remember them all?" Super fun song, I hope you check it out!
The fiddle player, Kyle, is practically family. He's married to my niece's boyfriend's sister. I met him once a few years back. He's a nice guy. My nieces love when he plays fiddle for them.

I bet!! So cool. I’ve always wanted to learn to play fiddle. It’s a bucket list item.
You should watch Turnpike cover the old 97’s song Doreen live with Rhett singing on it …it slays everything out there
Love what you do, man! You should check out some Shane Smith & the Saints. "The Mountain" or "All I See is You". Great writing, excellent fiddle, and some really cool harmonizing!
The Troubs are the greatest country band going. And second place isn't close. And, to me, this is absolutely the greatest country music song of all time.
Great reaction as usual, brother. I HATE country music, but I LOVE Turnpike. The storytelling is stellar. Each song is a great short story.
Love the song. Love the Tshirt too! LOL.
Three chords (with a free 6-minor thrown in) and the truth. That's what we're all after, isn't it?
'drinking fiddle waltzes' now that's a genre!
Love this song! You need to check out The Mercury by them
Turnpikes great, 7&7 and tornado warning are a must though
evan wrote and writes some of the absolute best lyrics in country music or music in general really. and yes the entire band is off the hook. the song is about the narrator moving away from the country to chase a woman in the city. he almost forgets his country upbringing but returns home and rejoins his childhood friend in their country ways after his romance dies. they go back to bird hunting as they did as kids. the song is the narrator rejoicing in the feeling of returning home but also lamenting the failed relationship.
Turnpikes albums tell one big story, you have to start from the beginning to understand. One of the best bands ever to do it.
More Turnpike!!
The Funeral is good too Get Red Dirt Radio on Pandora and you'll hear tons of great music including TT
