I was just listening to a shit load of Dave and Tim the other night like the old days and kept wondering why people aren’t constantly making content and videos around their music. It’s beyond incredible. The best song writer or at least most prolific in the last 3 decades. Dave’s rhythm playing is insane and Tim’s solos are ambient, soulful slide and he can shred acoustic. Dave is a genius. So glad you are plying this. I bought Live at Luther College on a school trip in 8th grade in 1998 and listened to it the 2 hour ride home and my musical world was never the same. One of the best memories of my life was that bus ride back from Newport, RI listening to Dave and Tim on my yellow Sony Sports CD Walkman. God Bless Dave and Tim and everyone on this channel.

My wife and I were lucky enough to be able to go to the first set of Barcelo Maya shows. They played 3 complete sets over 3 night- well over 100 songs- and didn't repeat any. Check out DMB Almanac for the list. It's impressive.

Dude we are kindred spirits. My friend, whose name is also Dave, got me to listen to DMB, it was one of those radio cuts... but then I listened o Lie in Our Grave and Best of What's Around... That was it! I was forever hooked and saw DMB live twice at Fenway, at least three times at the Tweeter Center (when it was the Tweeter) and once at the Garden. The Band is amazing live... but the one song I love above all... The Stone live at Red Rocks!!!! Oh My God!!! It is probably the most perfect song!!! It has such a hauntingly beautiful melody that carries all the way through... Just simply amazing!!!!

This song is so spiritual and beautifully performed. The lyrics of the song themselves leave me enchanted. They are so religious, not in a denominational way, but in the sense of some greater sense of existence. It’s written like a song but sung like a prayer.

This concert in particular has been a cornerstone of my Dave Matthews experience. Ethereal and complex, it gives me goosebumps every time. I've had the opportunity to see Tim and Dave in these acoustic settings (large and small) SO many times, and none of them have met the level of genius that was on display that night in 2007

Happy you’re doing Dave but bummed that you were recommended a cover that doesn’t show off Dave’s rhythm guitar skills. The Warehouse, The Stone, Lie in our Graves, or What Would You Say would have been way more interesting for you to break down. Oh and if you were going to do a cover, it would have been awesome to see Cortez, The Killer with Warren Haynes from Live at Central Park.

I think this is adorable. Reminds me of when I'd sit in my bedroom for hours first learning the melody of Dave's songs via Dave and Tim Live at Luther College and then being blown away by Tim's solos. How he weaves melodies in and uses his delay pedals along with his virtuous ability was astounding to me as a 15/16 year old just teaching himself how to play. I then found TR's solo work and it took playing guitar to a whole new level. Then came John Mayer in the earl 2000s and I all but gave up haha! Great video dude.

@@ogs1mpson609 I’ve found this to be true too. Learning new instruments oddly improves your ability to play other instruments. Perhaps it’s because it trains your ear to listen to other sounds. I know learning some percussion has definitely improved my sense of timing and my phrasing skills on guitar... Learning different instruments has also exponentially improved my musical listening experience and altered my taste in music over the years.

Daniel Lanois is one of those musician whose work you've heard a million times, but still can't quite place him. Among other things, he co-produces U2's Joshua Tree album. Dave and Tim cover another of his songs- Still Water- in this show and the bridge from it to Don't Drink The Water is absolute perfection.

It's fun watching you alternate between fangirling and getting excited because you know what someone just did. Your enthusiasm is contagious for sure, and I do manage to pick up the odd nugget here and there. Sometimes you just remind me of something I forgot a long time ago, but it always raises more questions. It's inspiring to watch someone who is fluent in the language of music work through things as quickly as you do while I'm still trying to get my head around the "A E I O U and sometimes Y" aspect of the circle of fifths! Y? Because it makes the math work out is the best I've been able to reconcile it so far. Anyway, keep up the great work! Looking forward to the next one!

Long Black Veil, that was one of the best covers i ever heard Dave Mathews cover. It was just so raw, because it was some kind of bootleg audio version, but what got me was his appreciation of not just the music, but the lyrics and how good they are. Because me, dave matthews, thom yorke, and so many people like us, yes, we dont care so much about lyrics... until a really good song comes along with the face bashing lyrics like Long Black Veil, or like Bartender, or Country Roads maybe.

Warehouse for some tough muting, JTR, The Stone, or Fool to Think for little more intricate riffs. Music fills lots of voids, for lots of people, and one artist that transforms every ounce of her being so vividly, it can be absorbed by each viewer to resonate on their own level is Tash Sultana.... I`m sure you`re familiar with her, but if not check her out... Michael, have you ever listened to Lanois’ album For The Beauty of Wynona? His guitar playing and songwriting is amazing. You can also hear how much influence he had on all the people he produced (Peter Gabriel, Robbie Robertson, U2, Emmy Lou Harris, Luscious Jackson, Hothouse Flowers, Bob Dylan, Neville Brothers) through the 90s and early two thousands, and that he actually played on a lot of those albums. This song is from his previous album called Acadie. He also has a lot of cool pedal steel instrumental stuff. Plus, especially on Wynona, the New Orleans/Quebec swampy 1/4 triplet rhythms are dank.

you might consider segments on jazz guitarists such as George Benson, Gabor Szabo, Grant Green; rockers like Rory Gallagher; also suggesting Artie Traum

Hey Michael, I love *all* your little 'noodling' sessions at the start of your videos, but this one was an absolute blinder - beautiful! Finish it off, dude - it needs to be a full piece. 😁

Hearing guys like this speak music theory is so friggin awesome and mind blowing. It’s like quantum physics when the rest of us tuned out after geometry. I just laugh when he starts doing his teaching.
