Definitely the Torres guitar! The real sound of guitar, perfectly balanced and sweet, that still resonates in your ears after earing it.

That's why it is always better to try them oneself : I just went to Paris to try both Torres and Koumridis and the Torres had a very nice and mellow tone but was lacking on sustain and brightness on certain notes. It is still a great guitar though and beautifully made. The smaller size 'almost 3/4 model made it a little uneasy to play for me. As for the Koumridis, it was the Lambo for guitars! A huge sound and sustain and balance, and sooo easy to play. So I chose the Koumridis over about 10 others and I bought it, and now I have to learn to play differently with no more struggling , coz it almost plays by itself.

Torres guitar gives me goosebumps, it sounds so sweet and has singing voice. Double top and lettuce bracing guitars are loud, but the voice is not there.

nicely played. You can hear the amplified nature of the modern guitars. The Ramirez sounds like all of my old Segovia recordings. However I think I prefer the new big sound of the hi tech guitars.

The Koumridis guitar combines the old tradition sound & sweetness with modern guitar construction and possibilities. Last comes the Ramirez, which till the 1975/6 were guitars with astonishing characteristics and then on the sound quality has unfortunately diminished a lot. I guess the last years , Amalia Ramirez has done a big effort to give back to Ramirez guitars the old good sound and prestige. Thanks for the wonderful videos, btw !

That's a very nice video which to my humble opinion would be better if between Torres and Ramirez 1a you had included a Hauser 1 with brw back and sides or a Robert Bouchet. Sound wise, Torres to my ears is lyrical, clear but lack of sustain probably due to the maple back and sides but, i love it, Ramirez 1a i can hear a kind of choke sound here and there...the other two had volume, balance and huge sustain but the magic colors of each note from the blooming till the decade are not having strong presence...they are screaming like i am a guitar but struggling to be a grand piano. Classical guitar in my opinion rich is top with Hauser and Bouchet and spruce tops all the way, examples of the best work of these two luthiers are the most complete and balanced instruments with the most soulful sound.

Actually the lattice design was born because Greg Smallman asked John Williams what he would like improved about the classical guitar and John Williams said he would like more sustain on the treble strings in the higher positions. So the volume change which is really just a wider frequency response was actually a by-product of this conceptual design.

The Torres was just easily the most pleasing to my ear and the way you play it. I also find that double top guitars are exciting to the player but not very good for the audience. I have seen performances with smaller traditional guitars that projected very clearly and I’ve seen performances with double top guitars that were very indistinct and all I could hear was bass and treble. No mid range presence which is what translates to projection and clarity.

All of them are pretty dark-sounding instruments, the Torres replica being the most open among the four. Undoubtedly, the Lissarague has the most powerful sound, very dark, very cedar-like, and still very defined tone, the darkest among the four guitars, and it lacks all boxiness. In fact, it sounds as if all of its sound came from the top only. The Greek guitar is quite similar in tone, quite loud, too, even with a bit of harshness in its tone, due to the Nomex stuff, I guess. It's interesting, because its build is completely different from that of the Australian instrument, and yet their tone characters are not so far away from each other. The Torres replica has a very-very nice, woody, sweet, mellow, but still very well-defined, balanced and quite loud tone, especially considering its relatively small size. As I said, it sounds the most open, which is no wonder, given the maple B/S and the spruce top. There's a hint of boxiness in its tone, but very little and not disturbing. The relatively less air volume can definitely be felt in its tone. The Ramirez has a very dark, cedar-like tone, but considering its size, its relatively less powerful and less defined than the Torres, and sounds a bit boxy to me, although one can get used to its tone quickly.

There is such a difference! The Torres was so sweet, such a gorgeous soun, the Ramirez was bigger and warmer, might be better for some music but overall I would pick the Torres. The other two were more of a “technical” sound, for lack of a better word they just weren’t beautiful sounding the way the Torres was, not as captivating.

NOTHING compares to a traditionally well made guitar as far as sound goes. “Evolution” doesn’t mean better; in this case it’s quite the opposite. Lattice guitars may have more volume, but the sound is just not up to par with the older ones. These two lattice guitars have some sort of a “curtain” over the trebles. The sound is muffled and not very pleasing. This is my honest opinion.

Dan Ghofrani Except for the fact that sound qualities are subjective, I disagree 100% with everything else you said. I have yet to encounter a single person when doing a blind test who prefers the sound and tonal qualities of a modern guitar over a good traditional one. However, they have generally more volume. Apart from that, not only do they not improve on anything else, but more often than not, they sound worse, and weigh much more. Plus, they are more fragile. So why even consider one....? Personally, whenever I hear lattice, double top, or nomex, I just feel like puking...

To my humble taste the Torres replica by Dominik Wurth sounds by far most pleasant of all. The other ones somehow sound more of an unharmoneous mishmash of exaggerated bass and unmusical treble, though the bass itself sounds quite nicely on the Lissarague.

I think mist of comments regarding tones actually comparing spruce with cedar tops, rather than Torres and modern. The bracing of Torres is symmetrical like Yamaha, ramires and others are not. Also double top guitar is not lattice guitar - just correct some comments

Torres! Second the Ramirez. The other two no, no. The modern ones are noisy, too much vibrations and sustain. But Torres... My God This is the case that music is not related with volume but the capacity of an instrument to be near the player. If you amplified the instrument to achieve more distance the union between the player and the instrument will be less evident. It is impossible for example to use all except Torres to play flamenco, the very best example of union between music, player and instrument.

Torres sings really lovely but not balanced enough for today's ears, Ramirez is very close to what a modern guitar should sound but I must admit that double-top does a good job also, finally lattice braced is a loud, nasal sounding joke to be ditched really, it can be converted to a lamp with a suitable lampshade or might be only good as firewood .

As far as I can say about the sound through microphone (Neumann?), speakers (good eve audio)... the best sound is the Torres (also my Lodi Torres is great!!!). The Ramirez is just great as well. But lattice and double top really sound, sorry just my opinion, not naturally and - for me - horrible. There is no reason the destroy two tops to make a guitar like this. It is a waste of material and the result is more than poor... sorry, just what I think. Aguado said - we do not love the guitar bcause it is loud, we love it because its wonderful and sweet sound... cpuld be absolutely right!
