Fan braced all the way, no question.

At the end of the day - which would you want to listen to, or play more. I appreciate the power of the lattice brace but at the end of the day I think it would get tiring, The appeal of the guitar is the subtle colour and dynamics that it is capable of (in the right hands). Really I think that the sweetness and beauty of tone that the fan braced guitar is capable of is the guitar that would be preferred in the long run. Hope those luthiers keep working at it though - either the fan braced will advance in volume or the lattice braced will figure out how to bring the beauty of tone to that design, players and audiences will be the winners.

These comparison videos are a great idea. It's easier to appreciate the tonal qualities of an instrument when the sound is relative. They're also fun to watch...kind of like a competition.

ps On top of what we heard ,for a guitarist the matter of how easy is the guitar and how easily can transmit the sound and what nouances and colours can produce is of great importance.So its not only what we hear, but also what we play... Finally ,a traditional guitar has probably a longer life ,because of the greater wooden top mass.

Great video. For me the attraction of lattice bracing is the balance between the treble and bass strings. Traditional fan bracing provides nuance at the expense of a very bass heavy sound.

Thump up for fan brace , musical tone sweetness , more soul compare to lattice just bigger sound nothing else .

The fan braced sounds better all the way! A bit less volume, but it has a so much better tone; it’s not even comparable! To me the lattice sounds like a toy in comparaison.

I agree! In terms of refinement, the fan braced guitar wins hands down. The beauty of the guitar resides in mystery and subtlety. I was jarred by the loudness of the lattice braced guitar... louder does not mean better!

I finally decided to purchase both a good quality 7 fan braced traditional and double top lattice braced guitar. I can tell by ear, both have player soundports, that the doubletop lattice has clearer fundamental harmonics, my sound spectrum analyzer/electronic tuner also validates the peak fundamental as being more prominent, fewer overtones, less deviation . I enjoy both equally and find that it is something like the Peter Paul Mounds & Almond Joy jingle, " sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't" !

With headphones on, I prefer the latticed braced guitar. Stronger basses and bolder sound.

Excellent guitars both! The fan braced sounds more familiar but not necessarily better..! The lattice guitars deserves a more careful listening!

I consider that lattice brace guitar need a different approach in play in. When I get my first one it was very different and confusing. But with time I found it was easier on my right hand to get the sound out. In fast tempo lattice brace guitar are really clear and separate. Just my opinion. Great video.

To my ears the fan braced guitar has more tonal depth and complexity than the lattice. But both are lovely guitars, and lovely is the playing itself.

I never thought I'd hear that much of a difference, 'though I'm sure some of it has to do with the differences from guitar-to-guitar, but I do find that the lattice-braced guitar has a lot more mid-range. It reminds me of a lute in overall character. It seems to have more of a "notched" sound to it than the fan-braced guitar. The fan-braced guitar sounds more like the sound I imagine when I think about nylon-string guitars.

Love them both. I feel that the lattice braced may have better balance and the fan braced more tonal colour.

The latice braced guitar has a midrange "hump" that makes it sound nasal, and slightly boxy. I much prefer the Fan-braced guitar in this video. In this day of high-quality performance microphones, there's no need to sacrifice tone quality for volume.

Buy both is the answer . Both are fantastic guitar

The lattice one with Cedar on top may have a sweeter sound. The one in this video uses Spruce.

My taste leans towards this fan braced guitar. Plus, if you use an ErgoPlay Tappert leg rest It will sustain and ring out more and there will be absolutely no question.

same response from both as far as clarity, but the lattice brace seems louder. it is just an opinion and i could be wrong. ................. both guitars are very nice.

in my opinion the fan brace has a mellower round and warm sound, more romantic and emotional. It is less "pumping" and less loud. The contrast between low and high harmonics is sweeter and maybe there is more dynamic range. All in all I have to say that this specific item of fan brace guitar, sound particularly weak in the mid tone strings. The lattice brace is louder and has a very high contrast between the high and low harmonics. The sound is more aggressive and very "analytic", there is an extremely clear definition. But the timber Is harsh and somehow fatigating. I also find that the fundamental/harmonics ratio is more favourable on the lattice: in the sense that the fundamental is more persistent; whereas in my opinion the lattice brace has a tendency to saturating with harmonics. I am afraid that the lattice technique mirrors the attitude of our present era, where quantity and appearance, display of technical power, is becoming more relevant than quality and attention for details. The same evolution taking place in the Hi-Fi field. They are both beautiful instruments anyway!

the fan-braced guitar should have had an armrest as well. It would have made a big difference.

The question you have to play a recital in a medium size concert hall. Would you go for you lattice guitar without amplification or you fan brace guitar with amplification. Amplifying classic guitars is difficult... Not many people can get nice sound out when amplified.

For amplification I’d probably have to use a multi pickup system. Under saddle for the low end, soundboard transducer for the mid range and internal microphone for the high end. But then it becomes more of an electric guitar

lattice, of course more volume, but also a more "refined" tone :)

The Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond. Traditional Scottish Folk song. There are numerous arrangements. David Russell has done a fine one.

I recognize Loch Lomond as one of the pieces he played but what are the other pieces?

The first one was Mi Favorita by Daniel Fortea (there is also an arrangement by Agustin Barrios). The second demonstrating the bass strings was The bonny banks of Loch Lomond a traditional Scottish song of which there are numerous arrangements. The third was the fugue from the 1st Sonata for violin by J S Bach.

As with all musical instruments, there is not one that’s better than another. There is no correct building technique, no correct wood, no correct strings or tension. It’s a tool, buy the tool that does the job you need it too.

I love the lattice better.

Difficult choice!

I believe you are using the same strings: brand and tension. Otherwise we are only wasting our time here.

yes we uses always the same strings Hannabach goldin for the treble and daddario composite J46 forthe bass. No eq no effect just the pure sound.

This is so obvious that it doesn't feel like it's even a fair comparison. Fan braced all the way. What a yucky sound on that other guitar.
