It's so, SO HARD when one of your pets are ill, but guinea pigs take it to a whole new level. They go downhill fast so you have to be on the ball, which you absolutely are. You're amazing with how much care you're giving Nugget right now. No matter what happens, you're doing the absolute best for her to live her best life. Little Adventures, I’m not sure your name but I have been watching your videos for about 4 years now. I started when I got my first three Guinea pigs and the journey since then has been eye opening and such an emotional rollercoaster. Last year I lost 2 of the 3 original Guinea pigs I got 3 years ago and have been devastated and just the stress with a sick piggy is a lot to handle, so I wanted to not only thank you for your amazing channel but really put an emphasis on how strong you are in these situations. When I see your videos about a sick piggy it’s hard for me to watch them but I try to always make sure I like the video to show support. Once again, thank you for the amazing channel and I hope Nugget fully heals from this situation. All love and support to you and your family.

I experienced so much guilt not being able to help my piggy, and I put a lot of blame on myself but your channel just goes to show you can take the best care of them and unfortunately situations can still arise.

Totally agree with both comments. Julia and her husband are both amazing piggy servants. We lost 2 recently and were devastated. Sprouty died unexpectedly and no warning signs. Squiggies had a bladder infection and made it through surgery but didn't make it through recovery after several days of promising signs. You do feel helpless although we are blessed to have served them. So big personalities and so much pleasure gained from having them. We have new introduction planned for Wednesday for our remaining princess. Fingers crossed.

@@stephenrobertson4618 Firstly, I just want to say I’m sorry for your loss because I know how much it can hurt. I too lost my first Guinea Pig unexpectedly AND lost my 2nd one to a bladder stone because I couldn’t afford the surgery and was too scared to even go through with it anyway. They taught me so much about myself and helped me through so much. I’m so thankful for the experience I have had with them.

Hi Julia, my guinea pig Phoebe is unable to empty her bladder since September last year. The vets have also suggested something neurological and at the moment a CT scan is the next option for us. Phoebe does very well as long as I help her empty her bladder 4-5 times a day. With practice it becomes just one of those things we do for our piggies. In the morning when her bladder is very full I apply pressure lightly to her whole tummy area with one hand whilst holding her up with the other (a lot of pee comes out), then to get the remaining pee out I apply pressure with my thumb roughly in between her nipples. You start to be able to feel the bladder and whether it still contains urine. If I don't, she will develop a UTI and the pee will contain blood. Sometimes she can get a little blocked with calcium sludge, massing the urethra area or giving her a quick bottom bath can help clear this. She is no longer on any pain meds or antibiotics (though we have Metacam and gabapentin to hand if needed) and her weight is back up to her normal level, you would never know she has this issue and she has actually become more tame as a result of the handling. Perhaps doing the same for Nugget will help her ❤ thinking of your sweet piggie and sending healing vibes! Sarah x

Hey, thanks so much for the reply! Nugget's blood work came back negative for kidney issues. Our vet still suspects a tumor, another one she has consulted thinks it's a mix of bladder issues (like Phoebe has) and an irritated and painful stomach due to the antibiotics/pain meds. We're now on even stronger pain meds .. I'll try and empty her bladder because every time the vet did this, she seemed better. Thanks so much for this advice!! I hope your baby is okay sending her and your prayers and wishes. Poor nuggy beans as someone who’s lost 3 pig she certainly looks pretty active still. My pigs were just wiped and wouldn’t move eat drink or do anything at all they were on syringe so any sort of energy is a good sign. Oh, Nugget! I hope she is able to hang in there happily for a long time. When my guinea pig got sick in January, he lasted for 2 1/2 weeks but the antibiotics and pain medications did get him feeling a lot better for a good week or so when he was acting like himself again. I really treasured that little bit of extra time with him. I hope you can also have some more good time with sweet Nugget.

I'm sorry for the trouble you are going through. If only animals could speak our language, then they could at least say where it hurts. Nugget is definitely a little trooper for enduring all of this at once, and I hope she gets better. Honestly, whenever you say Nugget's age I'm in disbelief because she has always acted like the baby of the group.

Awwww it's always so tough when these precious ones start declining ... BIG HUGS ! I noticed that they do flip flop and I think it's that they are prey animals .. just like you don't normally notice the problems until they are close to or are in a critical state .... I'm hoping it's something that can be resolved because some of them live longer than 6

Idk if this is soon after a bath or not but the state of Nugget's fur (i.e. puffed out almost like static) indicates extreme discomfort. She also spends the first 5 minutes of this video in the same spot. Two major indicators for anyone reading this. Also, listen very carefully at 5:09 - it sounds like a short whimper.
