Guilin, City Walk - China 2004 Travel Channel
Guilin, mainly known for its karst mountains, is located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Besides the karst mountains, there are many other sights worth visiting.
On the western side of the Li River is the Fubo Mountain (Fuboshan). At its foot, we find the statue of General Ma Yuan, highly respected in China.
Inside is an impressive cave system with several hundred statues and Buddhas from the Tang and Song period, carved in stone.
On the way to the Seven Star Park, we pass the city's famous pagodas, the Sun, and the Moon Pagoda. The smaller Moon Pagoda was built almost entirely of marble, the larger Sun Pagoda is made of copper. The pagodas hold more than one record in the Guinness Book of Records, for example, as the largest copper pagoda in the world. They were rebuilt in 2001 after models from the Tang Dynasty.
The Seven Star Park (Qixing Gongyuan) is a mixture of park, zoo, and recreation area. Especially worth seeing is the 106 m wide stone monument, which depicts the 7,000-year history of China in symbolic pictures. Next to a panda and a tiger, you find natural beauties in this park, such as Camel Mountain (Hump Mountain). In front of Camel Mountain, Bill Clinton once gave a speech on the subject of environmental protection.
From the 150 m high summit of Duxiu Feng, in English Summit of Unique Beauty, you can enjoy the beautiful backdrop of the famous Karst Mountains. Both the pagodas and the Elephant Trunk Hill are easily recognizable. Unfortunately, the weather is not so clear, and the view is a bit restricted.
Even at night, Guilin shines in all colors. The people seem to love the evening mood and spend a lot of time outside. Although Guilin is rather provincial, it presents itself as a modern city. The shopping facilities could just as well be located in a western metropolis.

Guilin liegt in der autonomen Provinz Guangxi des Zhuang-Volkes und ist hauptsächlich für seine Karstberge bekannt. Neben den Kartsbergen sind aber noch viele andere Sehenswürdigkeiten besuchenswert.
Der Fubo-Berg (Fuboshan) liegt auf der westlichen Seite des Li-Flusses. An seinem Fuße begrüßt uns die Statue des in China hochverehrten Generals Ma Yuan.
Im Inneren befindet sich ein beeindruckendes Höhlensystem mit mehreren hundert in Stein gemeißelten Statuen und Buddhas aus der Tang- und Song-Zeit.
Auf dem Weg zum Sieben Sterne Park passieren wir die berühmten Pagoden der Stadt, die Sonnen und die Mondpagode. Die kleinere Mondpagode wurde fast vollständig aus Marmor, die größere Sonnenpagode aus Kupfer errichtet. Die Pagoden besetzen mehr als einen Rekord im Guinness-Buch der Rekorde, unter anderem als größte aus Kupfer gebaute Pagode der Welt.
Der Sieben-Sterne-Park (Qixing Gongyuan) ist eine Mischung aus Park, Zoo und Erholungsgebiet. Sehenswert ist vor allem das 106 m breite steinerne Denkmal, das die 7.000-jährige Geschichte Chinas in symbolischen Bildern darstellt. Auch nachts erstrahlt Guilin in allen Farben. Die Menschen scheinen die Abendstimmung zu lieben und verbringen viel Zeit im Freien. Obwohl Guilin eher zur Provinz zählt, präsentiert es sich als moderne Großstadt. Die Einkaufsmöglichkeiten könnten sich genauso gut in einer westlichen Metropole befinden.

Hallo Richard! Vielen Dank für den fantastischen Kommentar! Ich habe mir Guilin in Google Earth genauer angesehen und bin zu der Erkenntnis gekommen, dass sich die Stadt nicht all zu sehr verändert hat.. Im Zentrum ist das Wasserfall Hotel errichtet worden und zwei neue Kaufhäuser, und natürlich wurden viele Geschäfte modernisiert, aber die touristischen Highlights sind alle gleichgeblieben, wie schon Jahrhunderte zuvor. Aber auch das Zentrum (der Platz auf dem die Kinder rumfahren) ist nach wie vor mit seinen gläsernen Pyramiden, gleichgeblieben. Was soll man auch an Denkmälern, die Jahrhunderte alt sind, auch verändern ? Alles Gute und eine schöne und hoffentlich auch fröhliche Adventszeit!

Guilin is so magical. Very proud to have been here many times. One day, I will also make my own describing Guilin as Asia’s most beautiful city. (So many beautiful memories). Love your video. Those school children with yellow caps are the best scene on the video.
