I went vegan for nearly two years and mostly stuck to healthy foods. I went back to an omnivorous diet because my health suffered. However, there are some things I continued with - I now only drink soya milk and eat a lot more plant based dishes. But I've gone back to eating meat, fish and eggs and I feel a lot better for it.

I've been a vegetarian for 30 years and have never told anyone to be like me and if you want to eat meat carry on and enjoy it. All farmers and other people involved in the meat industry care about animals and must do in order to keep their industry going. If you do decide to become vegetarian or vegan please read up as much as you can before making your decision, as there are certain supplements it would be best to take health wise.

We evolved from herbivores originally and only developed an adaptation for also eating meat. Regardless, what is important is what diets we're healthiest eating, and science has proven humans thrive best on plant-based diets (whole food especially). Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, British Dietetics Association (2 of the biggest organisations of nutrition professionals in the world) state this. Animal products are linked to fatal diseases and chronic health conditions. If we're healthiest on plant based diets, it's the best for the environment, kindest for animals, and also tasty... why aren't we doing it?

There's no reason words like "murder" can't be used to describe the same actions committed toward non-human animals as they are to humans. Definitions can shift and change in society and actually some definitions do include all animals or simply individuals/sentient beings. The action of murder is the same on a human animal or a non-human animal, both are sentient, they're logically equivalent. Therefore calling it murder makes sense and is effectively descriptive and accurate, as well as necessarily evocative. People only reject assigning words like murder to non-human animals because they don't regard animals with moral consideration, and that has to change. Languages need to evolve to become less speciesist along with our treatment of animals.

She didn’t even get to explain that the fake vegan meats are only an alternative and do not need to be included in a healthy vegan diet. They are there to help people transition from eating meat or if you’re strictly vegan for the animals and don’t care about health. And I’d also like to note that animal flesh is not healthy for humans to eat either and if you’re going to choose one unhealthy thing, at least choose the one that doesn’t take a life.

Humans have survive for thousands of years on naturally occuring food. The problem is the ultra processed (of which most vegan fake meats are a part of) and the amount people consume which is bad. You cant pin point one diet as bad on the environment they all have their downsides, its the volume that needs to come down. With the obesity epidemic and food waste levels, thats where focus should be. I think more people would be on board with "eat what you want, just cut down to save ypur money and save the planet".

I honestly think it’s the cost of the product that’s putting people off from buying it. Vegan substitutes are extremely expensive. And now with people budgeting more because of the cost of living crisis, spending 4/5 pound on Beyond Meat products is just madness!! And I’m vegan!! I very rarely eat meat substitutes because they are not the healthiest and I won’t pay the money. If you stick to vegetables/beans/legumes etc then it is a healthy diet x

Most vegan substitutes are extremely affordable and in some cases even cheaper than the actual meat product. However, I'd still pay double the price for food that doesn't come from slaughtering animals. Also worth keeping in mind that beef and milk receive the biggest subsidies. If plant-based products were subsidised by the government in the way that the meat industry receives subsidies, the impact would be phenomenal.

3:52 veganism isn’t an ethical view on animal murder. It’s just means not consuming animal products. The motivation for it could be for ethical reasons, health reasons or anything else. And even if the definition were tied to an ethical view, that still doesn’t mean one couldn’t stop caring about animal welfare later on. If that happened, it wouldn’t invalidate the fact that you were once vegan. Her saying that Bear Grylls wasn’t vegan is beyond dumb. Also, on the flip side, it’s completely irrelevant what Bear Grylls thinks anyway. That’s not the basis for a non-vegan argument.

Everyone uses animal products including those who claim to be against it. The doctrine you named is a lifestyle based on the ethical treatment of animals. Bear Grylls' book included animal products in some of the recipes.

I remember I went to eat a burger with my friend that was a vegetarian, he ordered a beyond meat burger, and I had my usual cheeseburger, then he said his burger is really good, and offered me to taste it, I did and he asked me if it's close to my hamburger... I felt bad with how far away it was from my burger, fake meat isn't even close to real meat, sorry.

I assume she is referring to 3 trillion abattoir slaughtered animals per year and not giving every prawn, clam or anchovy the same weighting as a steer, sheep, pig or chicken. Given that there are 1.5 billion vegetarians, nearly 1 billion people either starving or pre-solid infants, that's 5.5 billion meat eaters. If, on average, every one ate 500g of chicken per day, approximately one chicken per 3 people, that works out to a total of 670 billion chickens per year. An Average steer provides 200kg of meat, which would require 13.75 million per year to provide 500g per day each, on top of their 500g of chicken. That is 1kg of meat per day each, a lot more than the average dietary requirement or affordability, but still only works out to less than 671 billion animals. Who is eating the other 2329 billion animals?

I saw a video where in a third world country (forgot which one) that produces the cashews, the workers who have to peel the shells end up with burns on their fingers because of a chemical or substance that is naturally found in cashews. I'll have to look up the video, but I recall seeing a clip of what the hands of the women in the cashew factory looked like after years of pealing the shells

💚🌱 @PiersMorgan I respect your opinions most often, I support your POV regarding the Monarchy, the Sussexes and many other points of commentary but not regarding the vegan ethic. Many of the retail processed vegan or plant based foods (meals already made) are unfortunately, a much higher price than their meat & dairy options. The reason why many vegans don't purchase those foods is the exorbitantly higher mark-up. Other vegans simply prefer to consume whole food vegan cuisine that they make at home. I am one vegan of many who would readily purchase the retail processed versions but rarely do because of the cost. As for "healthy", there are healthy vegans and not so healthy vegans. There is nutritious vegan food and fun, vegan junk food. I (and many) maintain my health by Food Combining most of my meals. That is, of three food groups (Grains, Seeds & Nuts, Legumes) - combining two of those food groups at once creates an Amino Acid - or a Complete Protein which is the same as flesh & dairy protein but superior in many ways. Some people supplement with vegan vitamins & minerals but those such as me, do not because of our already nutritionally balanced vegan 'diet'. As for the missing Vitamin B12 that animal flesh offers, "Nooch" a k.a. Nutritional Yeast is an excellent plant based food supplement - and it's also delicious. If course this Complete Protein vegan combination should also include the usual balance of daily fruits and vegetables. Being vegan has nothing to do with economics (excepting the exorbitant cost of retail processed vegan foods) but everything to do with the ethics that we align ourselves with - and that is that your dog and cat and mine is equally as important as cows, pigs, horses and other so called domestic livestock. Secondary is our health. Finally, the environment. Where I once lived, dog and cat was normalized as "food". The thing called sentience is what you, me, our pets and all other animals have. We all feel and think. We all have a desire to live. We should all have the right to life - but billions of other sentient animals do not have that right because of the choices of humans. You are an intelligent individual sir and you have the ability to examine all aspects when conducting your research in preparation for your commentary and arguments. I have no choice as majority of vegetables and fruit trigger a crohns flare for me. But it can be done. You just order a steak, chicken or fish. Just don't eat the vegetables or salads. I never seem to hear the vegan campaigners thoughts on local, smaller farms who look after and care for their livestock it is only ever the extreme versus the extreme, horrible factory farming versus an absolute strict plant based diet and lifestyle. Never anything in the middle when it comes to this type of vegan.

Vegan products are much too expensive!!!!! Lower the bloody prices and that would be what I buy.

Animals were farmed in the traditional way - real farms, open pastures. Today, around 95 per cent of cattle, chickens and pigs eaten in our country are factory farmed.

Also, that will be even more the case as we can increasingly only produce enough meat for the whole growing human population via factory farming. Factory farming is highly cruel torture and hell for animals. However, all forms of animal farming are still cruel, even "humanely raised" and "humanely slaughtered". The most ethical way to do an unavoidably cruel thing is still unethical.

I can tell you that most vegans are left wing progressives in general and most are pro-choice, the reasoning being that women's rights to decide not to have a child and not have a forced pregnancy thrust on them are avoiding a more concrete violation/injustice, than the abstract immorality of a decision not to have a child. If a fetus hasn't developed to the point where consciousness would be at all possible, then choosing to abort in my opinion is no different from choosing not to have a child in the first place. We're under no obligation to produce as many lives as possible and to do so would ultimately have a negative effect.

Actually, I was thinking about this the other day. Flu immunization is carried out every year in my childrens school. My oldest son had a boy in his class who was allergic to eggs. So on the day of the immunization he had to stay home because of the eggwhite used in the vaccine. How do vegans go about this? I am not vegan so if they use eggwhite or gelatine in a vaccine no problem. But with the rapid having to come out with a vaccine for covid, I can imagine some things used in it that don't go with the vegan lifestyle. Or it might happen in future when an even worse pandemic happens that the vaccine has some no go ingredients in it. You gonna refuse it then? What if you have a rare condition and the only medication for it contains an animal product? You gonna refuse it or take it and add 10 years to your life to see your child become an adult? And I know you can go for herd immunity when it comes to vaccines but non vegans might get sick of you counting on them to protect you and just choose to not get the vaccine. You can't blame them because it is not their job to protect you and they might have various other reasons for not wanting that vaccine.

I bet The vegan girl ends up working at her ranch at home in 10 yrs or so

What I find interesting is that every activist I've seen in last few decades seems to be an absolute angry person. Why would you voluntarily sink yourself into an ideology that makes you such a miserable person?
