Cut should've triple-checked to ensure that no guesser has a history with (specifically restrictive) eating disorders themselves, for the sake of protecting the contestants. The thought patterns, externalised hate and projective behaviours don't go away just because you stop purging or develop healthier eating habits, and it was obvious that she was far from being actually significantly recovered by the time her introduction was done. Not trying to generalise everyone who has an ED, I'm affected myself and the majority of the "community" has enough empathy to not behave in such a way, especially those who are adults with years or decades of their own experience. I'm also not trying to shift the blame away from her over to the casting directors at all, she's a grown woman with two children and more than a decade of experience in regards to how hurtful and triggering certain phrases can be, there isn't any excuse. Nevertheless, many affected people do struggle with recognising their own toxicity, especially if they think of themselves as being recovered, so Cut should've been more careful to counterbalance this.

@@anonymousbo0318 I think what Kaitbunni is stating is that people's personal relationship with the word healthy is not the same. And someone's own feelings about "healthy" are not factual. For many with EDs healthy has negative connotations of being 'plump' idk exactly how to phrase it. While calling someone healthy may sound like a complement, it could reinforce some people's body dysmorphia/triggers. Hence, appearance based compliments can often be unwise to give people who could potentially be suffering with EDs

Hi Folks! First Guy here! I wanted to let y’all know that I felt in no way harmed or offended by comments or observations made! It’s the name of the game! Right, and not to excuse her behavior in any way but I think those comments come from her illness. Because that’s what anorexia is, a mental illness. And I think it’s clear by her comments that she hasn’t fully “cured” it, which isn’t to shame her or anything because mental illness is something you sort of always carry around with you, even if you spend years in therapy and make significant progress it’s almost always gonna be there in the back of your mind. That being said it’s not an excuse to project those thoughts onto others, especially in a setting like this where some of those people have already struggled themselves with those same thoughts.

I needed it and never knew how to ask) if you met me, by chance, you wouldn’t know what I, internally, struggle with on a daily basis. you don’t ever look at someone and think, “this dude is recovering.” you might just see me as a human, someone you want to connect with. the thought of recovery might not even pass through your mind. Eating disorders aren't just about body image but also how you view food and if you overeat or undereat, and it can be hard to admit to onesself that they are overeating because it is so normalized. It is possible that multiple people in this video have overeating disorder but don't realize it due to how common it is.

I was looking for this comment because i cant belive so many people dont know that OVER EATING is an eating disorder! Its great that people can be confortable with their own bodies but its not CARING FOR UR OWN HEALTH, its UR body u should take care of yourself and, not feed it junk in a daily basis at leastt 😆(drinking coke for example)

There was only 1 double of the same type of eating disorder - anorexia and that was including the guesser. I think it was important to them to show as many kinds as they could in this video. Binge eating and over eating we’re mentioned. So who is this suggestion for?
@KristinNirvana

@@AndSoWeLaughed They really weren't though. None of them openly admitted to currently having binge eating or over eating disorder. Representation is important. This suggestion is for Cut to be able to learn and grow, the hundreds of people who liked my comment, the majority of people with eating disorders, me since I have overeating and binge eating disorder due to being naturally skinny and society equating skinny with unhealthy, and the millions of other naturally skinny people who also have these disorders due to people acting like our naturally skinny bodies are bad and inherently unhealthy and we have to shove 50 cheeseburgers down our throats to get bigger.
watching this video, the woman that has the two kids mentioned that she struggled with an eating disorder and still struggles with comments such as being called "healthy". then proceeds to tell someone that could potentially have an eating disorder that they look healthy. or even when she told the man that he had a bigger presence. as a person that struggles with an eatings disorder this really aggravated me.

Everyone who came on this episode is extremely brave💜 I’m sure their vulnerability and openness will help many!!
Wondering why we made this video? Read this note from our director: Unfortunately, society stigmatizes eating disorders. They are deemed shameful and we don’t talk about them widely, making it harder for people who suffer from eating disorders to get the help they need and harder for people to avoid getting one. We believe everyone has a role to play when it comes to destigmatization around mental health challenges, and challenges with food, eating, and body image. As this video shows, it is a fallacy that eating disorders present in one particular way. Many people do suffer without outwardly appearing as so. Creating safe spaces to have honest and open conversations, educating ourselves and others, and showing compassion and empathy for others, are just some things we can all do to help. We hope by making this video, we are encouraging people to have more productive and healing conversations around a topic that is affecting nearly 30 million people in America directly.

When the first girl says “you’re a bigger dude” like WHYYY would you say that? I’d never say that to someone…
‘healthy’ is such a trigger for me too, and because of that i would NEVER call someone else healthy- what was that woman thinking?
the way nicole purposefully said the word healthy after saying it’s triggering?? and what she said to the first guy. effed up. she’s getting slammed in the comments… if she gets triggered by the criticism, she didn’t think about triggering others so digaf? no
As someone who has struggled with anorexia in the past, a lot of people dont understand that it's a MENTAL illness that can (but not always) be seen visibly. Only like 6% of eating disorder sufferers are visibly underweight, and anorexia is not the only (nor the most common) eating disorder. All are serious, all cause mental/emotional distress, and all are deserving of treatment. Even though I did fall into that 6%, I was unfortunately never able to get treatment beyond seeing my primary care physician and a few therapy sessions because of how inaccessible treatment is, but thankfully i sorta outgrew that stage of my life and the eating issues resolved as well since i was no longer in the environment that was making them thrive, but this isnt the case for other people. Eating disorders have the 2nd highest mortality rate of any mental illness, with someone dying every 52 or 62 (i forget which) minutes. Increasing peoples access to treatment is something that needs to be seriously addressed, especially with eating disorders becoming more and more prevalent. Thank you Cut for raising awareness.
The fat girl to fat girl “is that from torrid?” exchange is so relatable.
I'm worried about the anorexia girl's two kids. Her brother had anorexia too? What was subliminally handed down to them? And will it unintentionally be handed down again?

None of us can know based on a 14 minute video what their family dynamic looks like or the specific conditions and factors that have led to them developing eating disorders. We are all capable of recovery and change and the steps their family members are taking towards recovery is very personal. A lot of people with eating disorders are understandably concerned about 'passing down' their conditions, but an important part of breaking these cycles is releasing shame about who we are. You can have an eating disorder and be an amazing parent. The fact that she's in this video talking so openly about her experience is already huge.

I commend all of you who have worked through your EDs and sending love to those still struggling! I love this comment so much. I have anorexia and it's so refreshing to have someone who hasn't had an ED understand what it's like. It's literally one of the hardest thing to go through. The hardest part about overcoming your ED is that unlike people who are addicted to alcohol or drugs, we cannot give up our drug, but need to learn how to live with it. We cannot survive without food but we tell ourselves that we are worthless and don't deserve it; EDs are our coping mechanism. They are a slow death and so hard to get out of when your perception of yourself and your body is so disordered. Eating disorders are also so normalized in society so you never feel like you're worthy of recovering. I wish everyone struggling the best in their recovery journeys ❤❤
anyone else noticed that people with anorexia often quote the whole “not everyone with an ED is underweight… BUT I AM/WAS”? also identifying as ‘anorexic’ as if it’s a part of their personality?
@maradoesnotexist
Жыл бұрын
anorexia literally takes over your entire life, unless you manage to recover it becomes pretty much your only personality trait. also why would it be weird to ‘identify’ as anorexic if that is what you are, like would you also be upset if a person with depression calls themselves depressed?
@ae9999
Жыл бұрын
Yeah because anorexia distorts your brain and makes you proud to be unhealthy and underweight. They often see it as a competition to be as thin and unhealthy as possible. This is why the concept of this video- look at someone and guess whether they have an ED- is so bad. For an anorexic, being told they ‘look’ like they have an ED validates their illness and is triggering. Being told they dont ‘look’ like they have an ED is also triggering because they feel like they are ‘failing’ somehow. Obviously these are generalisations, but those are very common anorexic thought patterns.
The way Jesse stares in to everyone’s eyes, it’s like he’s piercing in to their souls…I would struggle to stand in front of him and answer his questions 😂

Eating disorders are so stigmatized and I feel like a lot of assumptions are made when it comes to EDs. Not everyone that has an ED is chubby and hates themselves-- and that's coming from someone who is chubby and had an ED. I feel like people assume that skinny people don't have EDs (unless they became skinny through the ED); however, there's a massive difference between having an ED as a skinny person and having an ED as a chubbier person. Also, not every ED makes you skinny. I'm trying to get my psych degree right now and we honestly don't cover EDs enough-- they're so complex and there's no one way to have an eating disorder. I hope everyone in this video either loves themselves, or reaches a place in which they do--- or, at least have body neutrality. Everyone deserves to live comfortably in their body without the stress and judgement society gives, we wouldn't have to struggle with this.

I've been skinny all my life due to my fast metabolism and I've had couple of people including my mother think that I have an ed and assume that I think I'm fat and starving myself just because I'm naturally skinny, so honestly most body types get some kind of criticism.

Huh, that's interesting. In my personal experience I've seen more people assume skinny= more likely to have an eating disorder. Fat= just lazy, lacks self discipline, "nO eXcUsEs", etc. Usually when a larger person has an eating disorder others are in disbelief because they solely associate EDs with anorexia and being extremely thin. Which is of course, incorrect and ignorant. Not disagreeing at all with your comment, it's just interesting to me.

As someone who grew up with an almond mom let me tell you, your ED behaviours, comments, and tendecies SHOW and they are PASSED ON to your kids. I hope she continues to heal.
as someone struggling in recovery right now, can we please do more videos like these. i love hearing people’s story’s.
This was easily my favorite Lineup episode. Really related to everyone's story in even the smallest way and I just know this made so many people feel less alone in their own experiences. Thanks for this one, Cut
I love the group hug at the end. I would of definitely needed it if I was there 🥺❤️ I love how Rayne asked for hugs. Even though I have been recovered from my ED for 4 years now, I know how triggering the word “healthy” can be because that was also in my beginning stages of my recovery or even using words like “big/bigger”, “ch*bby.” I still struggle with that but I know my body image doesn’t define me. I know Nichole is struggling, and sometimes when individuals (some) who struggle with anorexia tend to compare bodies with each other or want to make themselves feel better of how they look by judging how others look. That is uncalled for and unnecessary that she said “bigger energy” while she could have said “bright energy” which could of been better/nicer.
That teeth comment was so unnecessary
Nicole having an eating disorder and then immediately shitting on everyone she saw is insane
I know this is off topic to the entirety of the video but the way the male guesser described perfectionism (if i make everything in my life perfect I will be worthy of love) hit me like a truck

that girl with glasses made me so angry, she said she would be empathetic then told the guy he had a "big presence" and also told the other he looked super healthy EVEN THOUGH SHE HATES BEING CALLED HEALTHY WTFGIRL??
That group hug was so sweet 🥹🤍
Rain is so nice, funny and intelligent, I love her !
Nicole is such a horrifying person to bring on a show like this. Having an eating disorder does not equal being a trustworthy person to do a judgement task like this, especially when it involves other vulnerable people. I hope someone is checking on her kids. I'm worried for them.
I like how everyone hates the girl in the overalls. Get her out of here.😒
Great episode! I’m very thin but I struggle with OCD and ADHD and it causes me to hyperfixate on certain meals and eat nothing but that type of food and become a picky eater and I found out that although I’m thin on the outside, I have dangerously high levels of cholesterol and sodium so just because you see a thinner built person doesn’t make them healthy. I’m vegetarian so I relied too much on cheese and eggs for protein and avoided a ton of healthy foods that I didn’t like the color or taste/ texture of. Got diagnosed with ARFID. Just because you see a heavier built person doesn’t make them unhealthy and that was super eye opening. Take care of yourselves everyone and don’t worry so much about others!
What is wrong with Nicole? Not only she used "bigger presence" as a way to this someone, she also used "healthy", a word that according to her was a trigger word. She definitely is not recovered enough, she is so competitive about something that ruins lives. She should know better.
i really wanna hug rain too she seems like the nicest angel and looks like she gives amazing hugs :(

I REALLY appreciate you including someone with ARFID. There is such a huge stigma around that one. There is stigma around every eating disorder, but it's a little different with that one IMO. I literally have a family member who had experience with anorexia, their mom totally gets it, but thinks I just wanna be special. Like yeah, sure, I love being the weirdo who has to eat nuggets at a wedding. She explained it so well too, when I eat something I don't like, it's like my whole throat just closes up, it's impossible to swallow food at that point. Thank you so much for this episode!
When she told him he looked healthy whilst knowing damn well this is a massive trigger even for her? So fucking inconsiderate. Honestly this episode shouldnt have even been made
The Girl with the glasses was just not it. She was talking without thinking which could be because she was uncomfortable, but she could’ve at least apologized to the first guy for her comment
