My Chihuahua, Jill, doesn't know when to stop striking fear into the hearts of other dogs with her restless barking (though she stays two feet away, wagging her tail while doing so) Her brother, Jack, however, wants to be every dog's friend (and he thinks he's a Great Pyrenees so he'll blend in and be a better member of the Big Dog Pack)

My female GSD did this after my daughter was born. Then when my daughter was a toddler she began to sleep right beside the bed & the male GSD kept the patrol going. I didn't teach either one this. They both would flank her in the backyard too. They could both be sniffing at dandelions but the minute someone starts approaching the fence (it was just a meter guy) one is barking at the stranger while the other is herding my daughter back home. And previously i loved my dogs before but after my children were born I gained so much more gratitude about my dogs too

My family dog growing up was a German Shepherd named Ace and he was the best dog ever so I appreciate the respect you have for the breed. We lived next door to a chihuahua named Gizmo who had an insane napoleon complex. Anytime we walked past his house, that little yapper would come tearing out of the garage barking up a storm. Ace ignored him unless he got close, then he would stare at him. Not intimidated, just confused that Gizmo was trying anything. One time, my mom was walking, Ace was on the porch, and Gizmo came out of his garage. Before my mom was aware Gizmo had left his garage, Ace was between them; hackles up and a growling very quietly. Gizmo abruptly stopped and never barked at mom again.

You know, as the owner of an Akita and a Chihuahua, I've got to say...sure, the Akita strikes fear into the hearts of everyone who dares to come _near_ the house, but the Chihuahua's the one you want as a burglar alarm. Ain't _nobody_ sleeping through that. Of course, the Akita's now wise to this, and essentially uses the Chihuahua as an early-warning system. In related news, we don't get too many visitors these days.

I remember seeing a K9 training clip of both breeds & the hoomans set up this mini maze with chairs & the “bad guy” is at the end. The GSD followed the path created, really really fast, but the Malinois jumped over the chairs & went straight for the decoy, knocking down all the chairs & pounced 😂😂

our rottie Pepper was a great guard dog - one time one of Dad's mates held up a fist - not hitting, just a joking "oooh i oughta" movement - Pepper just gently grabbed his hand when it came back down to his side, made eye contact, and let go after a couple seconds. Teeth didn't scratch, no dents, just gentle and firm control. A very clear message "We won't be having any more of that around Dad." he was awesome

Oh... I miss my Malinois :( But yeah, that's 100% accurate - I don't think Malinois ever lose their herding instinct - it's just protect ALL the things with deadly force. My dog would regularly patrol the house, enforce bedtimes, and become a nervous wreck if anyone was missing. Everything smaller than him that tried to be intimidating was promptly sat on.

My Kimi was a mutt. Not sure how many breeds she had in her genetic pool, but she was an older veteran dog who kept our street safe. She once chased off a rabid dog that had been trying to attack one of the kids. We had the authorities called to handle the dog and she kept it bay until they arrived. She even barked and growled at us to keep us away from our garage because a cobra had entered it when it was cold out. She was pretty old when she first met a Chihuahua. The little guy just started barking and came charging at her full speed. Only to be swatted on the head with a paw. She didn't bark, she didn't growl, she didn't show any aggressive body language. She just swatted him on the head gently and went about her business. That Chihuahua didn't bother her since.

At 18 I had a job as a dog bather. This was back in the late 80s when Rotwiellers had the spot as "most dangerous dog breed" so I was a nervous when I had to clip the nails of one. I accidentally quicked him but he didn't jerk away or yip or bark. all he did was lift his lip for a second then go back to neutral. I was impressed will how disciplined the dog was. I encountered another one later and had to bathe him. To do that, I had to lead the big guy up into the steps into the tub by a leash. He followed and didn't complain. They changed my outlook on the breed. I know they were well trained, but that itself went against the "dangerous breed" misinformation as it claim you couldn't train them to be good or gentle. Chihuahuas were annoying but thankfully rare as most often they just needed flea dips. It was the Cocker Spaniels that I learned to fear. Out all of the dogs I had to muzzle so I wouldn't be bit while brushing them out I'd say 70% (or more) were Cocker spaniels. Which came to a surprise as previous experience with them were pleasant. But on thinking on it, the pleasant times was when the dogs were in company of their humans, and in their own territory, not in a strange area (groomers) with strange people. There's one breed I have no experience with that the groomers would not allow me to brush: a Afgan hound. She claimed they were too unpredictable and fast. She pointed at a scar that ran from below her eye to her jaw, saying she got that from one when she came across a knot when brushing. I have no idea if she was correct in her description of the breed, aggressive and unpredictable, or if it was just that one dog she had (if she was rough with it and yanked on a knot, I could see a dog being upset).

It’s sad how much damage has been done to breeds because of these notions. Jonny mentions the previous generations of German Shepherds being guard dogs and seeing things etc etc but in WW2 for example the Doberman was the choice dog for the Marines, with them saving the lives of hundreds of Marines and earning the Nick name “Black Devil” from the Japanese, this is also part of how the Marine’s got their nickname of “Devil dogs”, but unfortunately after the war as public perception turned against the Doberman they were not only replaced but outright banned from use as military dogs prompting the rise of GSs and BMs… Not that I dislike either of those breeds and in some sense they’re probably better suited to the work anyways, but it’s a shame that the military’s reasoning was so misguided…

Former vet tech here. 2nd the Cocker Spaniels. Miserable breed. Should not exist. So incredibly prone to every health issue under the sun, likes exactly 1 person, completely convinced that everyone else is out to murder them and will bite first and ask questions later. Had a 10 yo cocker with colitis, dermatitis, arthritis, and chronic ear infections that used to come into the clinic I worked in at least twice a month. The older gentleman that owned her loved her to pieces but would not listen to us when we said he really needed to keep her on the prescription food ALL the time, not just after she had a colitis flare, it would be cheaper than bringing her in all the time for IV fluids and corticosteroids to stabilize a bad flare. Also would not listen to us that he needed to find a new groomer who would agree to use hypoallergenic shampoo and would pluck her ears clean, and that he needed to pre-medicate the dog with the ace tablets we gave him for grooming so that they actually could get her ears clean and her skin rinsed extra well without being murdered. About every 3 months we’d have to fully sedate her, and then I’d pluck and flush her horribly infected ears only for the cycle to repeat.

Years ago I had a beautiful Pittie who was a marshmallow of a dog - Calm, mellow, loved everyone. Then we adopted a Chihuahua --- She let that teeny, tiny 3 pound dog run the house. They've been crossed the Rainbow Bridge and now I share my life with 2 Chihuahua's --- One as sweet as the day is long and Milo, who can best be described as 5 pounds of dog with 50 pounds of attitude. His mission in life is to protect his sister and I and he does it very well, thank you.

@@Trinith. Our sweet CoCo was an incredible dog. Once a friend of my husband stopped by with his wife --- While they guys discussed things I sat down in the living room with his wife. CoCo being the friendly, loves everyone gal that she was, she sat down next to his wife, leaned in to cuddle closer and laid her head on the lady's shoulder. She told me how lucky we were to have such a sweet dog --- then asked would I be interested in signing a petition going around her community to ban Pit Bulls? 'They're vicious, dangerous dogs; you know" she said. "Really? Vicious and dangerous?" She said they were --- they couldn't trusted to be around people. That's when I pointed out the dog snuggled up to her, head on her shoulder was a Pittie. LOL! She about lost it! Said I had to be mistaken because CoCo was such a good, sweet dog. Yes -- Because since we adopted her, she'd known only kindness, love and care --- It's the people not the breed that's the problem.

Congratulations! This just means you VERY successfully socialised your Dobermann. No stranger, whether 2-legged or 4-legged fazes him. I grew up with Dobermanns and whenever we had a pup, that pup would go EVERYWHERE with us for the first year. If we couldn’t go with the pup, we simply wouldn’t go. We also took care to invite lots of people and visitors meant treats. To make sure our Dobies would alert us when someone was at the door we’d make sure they got all excited and would bark… a few barks only. As soon as we gave them the signal to be silent, they’d have to stop… and they did. As Dobies are highly intelligent you could always (if you want to) teach yours to bark a few short barks when someone comes over. Barking done, he can love on the visitors again (ours always did, all my dogs do). My latest Dobie would go completely beserk at snow. She LOVED it. Funniest antics ever. I miss her so much!

@@SylGordon - In my books, that’s perfect Dobie behaviour. You might notice him often sitting/lying down with his butt turned towards you. Typical Dobie behaviour. It means he’s facing ‘out’, making sure he sees whatever might be coming at you in order to be able to protect you. He’ll be friendly, relaxed, accepting of cuddles and pets… and still facing ‘out’’. If not you, probably whomever in your family he considers to be the most vulnerable will be the one seeing his butt the most. Dobermanns are amazing dogs. Better even: they’re addictive. One of their most endearing characteristics (to me) is that if and when they feel they’re not getting enough attention from you. They’ll demand it. And they can do so in the funniest of ways.

This week I am walking my neighbour's dog once a day, and she is a labrador mix too. Still not fully grown. Her reaction to a stranger entering the home would probably be: "Whooo, a new friend! Let me love you! Love you! Love you! ... Oh, let's look at pigeons and kill a sunflower together!"

I’d like to see him do more ACCURATE Labrador interpretations. He always makes them the bimbos of the dog world. Labs r a HIGHLY intelligent, super friendly, eager to please and easy to train. I do enjoy his videos overall, but as a parent of multiple labs over the years, I really take exception to his lab impersonations.

They WILL eat everything that smells like or is small enough to be food. My Lab was very smart too, kept getting into stuff he wasn't supposed to.. He was 14 years old when we had to put him down. Stomach issues got him before the old age did... Broke my mom's brownie pan he did... The vet said Labs just don't die on their own, especially when they're loved like our Rocky was. So make sure your Lab doesn't go for anything small, and NEVER leave your food unattended for even a second! My little sister was sick one time, we had gotten Subway that day, she didn't even leave it unattended just set aside on a coffee table... That sandwich was G O N E, gone in a second. Speaking of coffee tables, one single wag of their tail and everything is knocked off. Labs are just something else bro

Got my 3rd dog almost a year ago today. Cried while she slept on my lap in her new blankie going home, because a few months before I'd had to put my second dog to sleep. She's a good girl, lab with some pit, and a total love lump.

Every one of these makes me laugh. You'd think the idea would start to get stale - it never does! So funny! Jonny is a big part of it - he's hilarious - but I also think he could write an animated movie or a book! This has to go farther! And Jonny should be getting roles aplenty too!

Love your videos. Was surprised not to see a pittie like my lil bella here. So brave barking at strangers or weird noises, then just cries and wants to be hugged when they actually come near her.

My pit mix is currently hiding in my lap cuz my roommates dog took his bone. No amount of reminding him that he drags him around like a ragdoll everytime they tug of war convinces him that he can in fact just go take it back

I love properly raised pits! It's amazing what good training and love does to breeds that are meant to be so dangerous.

They'll guard your home from strange animals, but not people. They are not human aggressive. I'm assuming you're talking about the APBT? A pittie is not a breed.

@@ConstantChaos1 I was attacked by 2 Akitas when I was 8. I still have scars on my back. That being said, there were no psychological scars because I now own a pit bull that likes to do somersaults for fun. I love dogs!

Sophia(Lab/Pointer/Great Dane), raised my "napoleon complex" Sugar(Maltese/Chihuahua), in this scenario, I think that it is a bit different, only because Sophia was 160+ pounds and when I brought Sugar home, She was only 4 weeks old. I rescued both of them(different times of life if course). Sophia taught Sugar how to be bold and not bullied.
