I counted 12 french horns. This is the trickiest instrument in the orchestra. Even professionals, sitting down, indoors, in ideal circumstances, crack a note. These schoolkid FH players are marching and dancing outdoors at the same time. I'm in awe.

I was in an American Marching band, 20 years ago, and what impresses me is that we spent a lot of time learning to walk as smooth as possible, so that our top half of our bodies never moved, so that we stayed in constant lineup with our mouthpiece. These kids instead just force the mouth piece to the mouth, and hold it there, no matter what. That is something I would have thought impossible to do if I did not see it. I can't imagine the hours that went into learning how to do this.

There are some videos on KZread showing some of their practice clips. Pretty much they train like athletes where they hum whole songs while posed the whole time like they're raising an imaginary instrument to their mouth with one leg raised mid high-step.

If you’re interested at their practice hours and routine, type in “focus in kyoto tachibana” and you’ll see videos on their daily training. I think they get 40 days to train (might be inaccurate as I can’t remember but they do 7am to 7pm) daily

Notice there are NO MUSIC SHEETS on their instruments! When I played in my HS band we had to memorize only FIVE songs, not near as many as these kids have to learn (and it took me lots of practice at home to memorize those five songs)! And our HS band did not perform any DANCE moves, we only learned to march in step and keep the lines straight!!! These kids do it ALL!! Just an incredable band in every way.

Everyone should visit Japan and emulate the way they treat each other, and then you will see why these young students beam with pride and do everything perfect...this is their culture, they always bow out of respect for other people... so please stop being ignorant and visit Japan, you may never want to go home, really...such a great place to live. The band you mentioned, I did check them out. Saying them #1 band in America is a gross overstatement. They are as good as some of the High School in the States. I don't fully understand the Black culture but their 'ritual' is kinda awkward and the musicality is below average at best. Formation (which is the only thing US marching bands usually claim they are the best) is weak compared to other US bands and the 'dancing', I am not even sure if it is dancing. And in some performances the announcer keeps telling people that it is the best band and I was like dude if you have to say that out loud then it sure isn't the true. They can be the best Black marching band, I am not sure, but not #1 in America. Not by a long shot. Sorry.

They sound amazingly good considering 1 & 2. THAT is NOT easy! I didn't even hear anyone flub their notes - very rare. Also, I hope the few boys in the band appreciate their situation. :)

I've been listening to these bands for several years now and in all that time I have never heard a badly toned note except in this clip, the notes were correct, but I noticed one saliva cracked note for a split second. I will not say which section and certainly not which player, so I challenge you to find it. It was so brief it can be forgiven, but the standards of Tachibana players are so high it proves that they were taught very well even from infancy. If I could live my life again, I would be honoured and privileged to be brought up as one of them.

Drum corps in comparison destroy both in cleanliness and choreography. tachibana seems to do more parade routines and HBCUs do more stand tunes and try to crank out as much volume as possible. Tachibana is quite good in the sense they can do that with concert horns and makes sense as those sound better than marching equivalents. Probably one of the best parade bands out there but i wouldn't say the best marching ensemble out there. Yours admirable girls and boys from Kyoto Tachibana shs. You have given me so many wonderful hours since March 2021 that I can no longer count them. One evening in March 2021, I was sitting in front of my PC and watching music videos. I think I was watching music from some European marching band when youtube suddenly suggested a video of Kyoto Tachibana shs. And it was exactly this video from 2016, in which you played in the parade in Yamashina in blue costumes. From the first second I was electrified and fascinated. This was the first time I saw such precise and beautifully played music, with the synchronized movements. At first I thought it was a well-done computer animation. No. It was and is Kyoto Tachibana shs. Since then I have been listening to KT every day for at least three hours every day. I need this. It's like an addiction, like a drug. because it's so beautiful. And I can watch a lot of videos over and over again and it makes me happy to see you and hear you play. Everything I could find about KT on the internet I read and read and hear every day. And the story of how KT came about, how the training is carried out, who the teachers and trainers were and are - it's all so interesting. Every note, every movement learned and rehearsed, from head to toe - everything fits. There is nothing like it in Europe. If I were younger I would move to Kyoto and learn the Japanese language and find a job just so I could see Kyoto Tachibana live every year. But there is the Internet and that is good, also for Europeans who would like to and are able to hear excellent music from young people from Japan. I would like to give a tip to people who want to experience the music and the parades and events and marches of von KT very intensively, because that's how I do it: Sit very close to your smart TV with stereo headphones. Over-ear headphones are ideal. The headphones should be wired, because with bluetooth there are always minimal delays and differences between music and movement. For example, my TV is 55 inches and I'm about five feet in front of the TV. Then search for the KT videos that you would like to see on youtube. The stereo headphones give you the impression that you are there as a spectator at the event and hear the instruments as the audience heard them at the live event. And due to the proximity to a large TV, you can also see the music students in the back rows, e.g. at the Pasadena Bandfest in the stadium. The synchronicity of the movements of hundreds of students is a great experience in front of a big screen TV. When the individual musical instrument players march past on a march through the street, you hear exactly these instruments as they pass them as if you were there live. It's great fun. Try it. And a big thank you also goes to the many videographers who keep filming these wonderful events and uploading them to the Internet. Thank you, it's a lot of work too. I wish Kyoto Tachibana shs, all students and all teachers the very best for all time. You are role models for the youth and all schools in the world. You can be proud of yourselfes. Greetings from Bavaria in Germany Peter

I have listened to other Japanese and American high school bands and I enjoy KTHS the most for several reasons. I think the first is their music selections. They are all memorable and fun to listen to. Add the orange and even their blue uniforms, the choreography, their musicianship and their genuine enthusiasm, hard not to love them. Wish I could find an American high school band with the same qualities. I am sure there are some KZread just hasn’t revealed them to me. But KTHS will always be number one for me.
