For the people who seem to just discovered Tachibana and have questions 1. Yes they're a high school 2. Apparently marching bands are considered "girly" in Japan which is why you'll always see a majority of girls. 3. They practice 40hrs a week/360 days a year and they can participate up to 3 years 4. The club is pretty much member run. The band itself chooses what uniforms to wear. They decide the choreo and songs. The older members teach the newer ones. 5. Yes they are awesome

@@kailaine3974 i never understood why people compare Tachibana to DCI. I mean comparing an organization of gathered members who are best of the best of their region who specifically set out to compete, to an afterschool band made up of 15 and 16 year olds who do it for fun is pretty silly. I think that really shows how Great Tachibana is if some people have to get defensive and bring up DCI instead of cheering on some kids in Japan lol.

@@kailaine3974 i don't see why that would be a problem. You cant change the views and prospectives of a country. But that doesn't mean that men can't participate as you'll see that boys join bands regardless of what the general consensus is. If they don't have a problem with it im not sure why you should.

They put in immense amounts of effort to practice this while juggling schoolwork and other responsibilities as well. Doing the same show for years kinda increases the precision though. Show style bands in the South are under a lot of pressure to do a different show every week. You google Tachibana, you gonna get Sing Sing Sing, from 2014 to 2019. I am gonna watch it every year because no one does it with the precision that they bring. Still, lets be honest, they probably should have this song down pat after 6 years. Show style bands in the South have to play what was hot last week or the fans won't respond. Very different dynamic. This is not a knock on Tachibana. They could probably play just about anything you handed to them that morning and trash most bands, but it is a little distorted because they have a really small book.

I would have you look at Broken Arrow's show from 2010 and L D Bell's show from 2010. Both of them are amazing.

K Jennings Two completely different dynamics going on here. The bands you list are mostly about the precision formation, which itself is impressive, but it’s not as I,press I’ve from a musical performance standpoint. These girls are doing fairly energetic dance choreography WHILE playing some fairly advanced musical numbers. And they can do this while on the move in something like the Rose Parade. It’s akin to the pop singer doing a live studio quality performance while doing his/her dance choreography. These girls are freakin on point, especially at the high school level.

They practice everyday -- after school, 8 hrs on weekends and holidays. Their training video included them crying because of the intensity. One soloist said, when the band was interviewed for tv, she had to practice not 100, not 1000, but 10,000 whole hours to prepare for a national competition. Their work ethic is very intense! In America, a normal practice schedule for marching band is 3hrs every day after school studies. On weekends, 6hrs on Saturday mornings before it gets too hot, with Sunday off. They play each football game during the halftime. Then, for competitions, in the weeks leading up to the competition, they practice 5hrs a day after school and Saturday/Sunday for 6hrs each day. Practices don't just include playing the instrument or learning the set/routine. It's physically running laps, doing breathing exercises, and other cardio such as pushups, jumping jacks, and situps so that you're in proper physical shape. Since Japan is always "extra" for their students, I can't imagine how grueling and demanding it must be for Japanese students. Source: former American high school marching band student

@@dublinbounder Same kind of schedule for the dance team (we performed at the basketball and hockey games instead of cheerleaders). I know it is extra for Japanese kids, as you say, and they work super intensely on their academics (and this band is excellent!) but I also envy them for not having to do a sport plus volunteer plus a job plus clubs plus excellent grades in AP classes to go to a top college. I mean, I loved what I did, chose all of it because it was what I wanted to do and not *because* it would get me into a good school, and I think I’m a better person for it but the idea of just focusing on one or two things seems like a dream, you know?

Just think about the stamina. I read the Background from their website. It turns out that a girl snare drummer back in 2005 had seen the play "Burn the Floor" and came back and told her coach that their whole program was stupid and needed fixing. She wanted all sorts of dance choreography added on top of just marching around. They had to reinvent how a Band could even train for all of that (music, dance, formation marching, and running laps for stamina and endurance... and they had to find the time for everything. Yeah, that Band was a Revolution in what is now expected of 'Marching" Bands.
