Faustin only spared the Bellic cousins because vlad was a useless bum, though still a feared enforcer and loan shark for the Russian Mafia's protection racket and extortion business. Only kept vlad around or alive because Faustin banged his sister. Dimitri wanted to kill Niko and Roman. It was Faustin that spared the two. Faustin revealed this to Niko in his death mission.

Niko will always be my favorite character in GTA. A straight shooter, reliable, and caring. He knew killing Vlad was the right thing to do for Roman. He made dangerous people happy with hard work and dedication. He cared for his family and friends. The money never went to his head. The same cannot be said for CJ or any of the GTA V characters.

Trevor is caring, just too impulsive. Franklin is the definition of caring. You can't blame cj for having thought (and later regret) to abandon the hood. All the hood does is bringing you down, he was making real money for his family along with the triads. Out of all GTA games pieces of shit, you chose some of the most caring characters

Vlad's bodyguards were a lot braver and had more balls than him. Vlad ran with his tail between his legs. Despite all Vlad's wannabe tough guy badass talk he was a punk and a coward and average day bully at heart that could push around those weaker and smaller than himself and wimps like Roman but folded easily when up against someone that can fight back and will stand up to him. But he was still a dangerous, ruthless thug and loan shark for the Russian mob but merely an associate and underling under Faustin and Dimitri.

Idk if it's been confirmed or not, but there's a strong theory that Vlad is Pavel's uncle, in gta online when you're getting the demolition charges for him, he says "My uncle always said let cousins be cousins, well uncle, look where that got you" Vlad let Niko and Roman do whatever and ended up killing him

I dunno why people keep referencing that Mallorie cheated on Roman so Vlad won't escalate more violence to him because of the owed money. You can see clear cut and make your own inference from the dialogue in the game that she more than likely cheated on him because she doesn't take him serious because of all the clubbing, and cheating he does in his 'open' relationship with her. It looks to me that Roman's feelings for her in the end was stronger to the point where it instead made him sad instead of just brushing of it off.

It may be very early in the game, but this may be the most important mission in the game. After Niko kills Vlad, there is no turning back.

Watching this moment in the game always gets me so worked, a very important turning point in the story. I feel it everytime he says "NOBODY FUCKS WITH MY FAMILY!"

This is one of my most favourite missions I have ever played in GTA 4.

My favourite line that Niko said in that cutscene of him killing him was You were the stupid one Vladdy Boy nobody fucks with my family.

"what did u expect? I give him a massage" LOL, I always laugh after I hear that.
