Growroom Management

Hey, MossBacks! We have another informational video for you today.
Grow room management is at the core of your mushroom business operations. When it comes to gaining loyal customers, consistency is essential. Even if your mushrooms are the highest quality, it’ll be hard to gain consistent orders if the chefs you are selling to can’t rely on you. Proper management will even allow you to be able to take vacations without completely toppling your business. Getting systems in place and running your operation as efficiently as possible will help you maintain and grow your business.

@@Mossycreekmushroomsofficial I would love that! I am a rookie, but I recognize the importance of finding strains that fit the climate/ conditions here. I grow Lenny's Florida strain, also have some local turkey tails in process and am working on Calocybe Indica- with no success yet. But hot weather strains mainly during the summer.

You might be able to go longer without cleaning your fans if you draw outside air (maybe cleaner) and blow it past the grow room exhaust; pretty much the way the way central vacuums work. If you don’t want to do that you could use water to filter the air before it goes through the exhaust fans; kinda like a rainbow vacuum.

I love the pvc shelves. I first saw it in videos from that grower in new zealand, it was cool to learn that you championed them! They sound like a fantastic option. Although it's a great design, it's still a little too expensive for me right now, especially since I'm still not 100% certain how I want to utilize my available space or how much I'll end up growing. I have a 4 shelf martha and I'm fast needing more space, so I'm going to set up a walk-in martha with 12 shelves. It's maybe half the cost of a solid pvc grow room, but worse quality, harder to clean, requires a tarp-floor, and won't sustain a business on its own. I wouldn't waste my time with it if money wasn't so tight, but it seems like the best way to step up my grow capacity pre-launch. If all goes well and I start selling my excess, I'll better understand what I need, have a little extra cash coming in to afford investing in the pvc! And the two cheap tents can be used for mushrooms needing different conditions than the rest or something. It's hard to imagine needing more space than that! but if that happens, i clearly would have gotten my money's worth out of those marthas! The rolling shelves seem amazing. I'm getting at least one to transport bags from incubation to the tents. But since my mushroom space is split between floor level and a basement, they won't be quite as amazing for me. The pvc will be my best option unless/until we move. I LOVE how easy they are to clean and I'm weirdly stoked about it. so much so that even if I don't start a business, I might still build one LOL i'd have wasted my money on the tents, but eh, worth the risk :)

It was highly effective with both of my children and I tested it in a parlor of a large dairy operation. Again this had extremely large success with dairy production holding steady at a higher rate than their typical peaks in their prior 15 years. They have remained steady for 7 years now. Wondering if anyone has experimented with music in their inoculation and growing chambers?

@@Artem-rh4yz I have never tried using tape. It might work/ help. I just leave the old spot open and move on to opposite side. Another trick is to take the fruiting block and put it inside a 5-gallon container. Make sure to pre-cut several holes for the mushrooms going all the way around the 5-gallon bucket. Next fill in the remainder of the space with coffee grounds or straw or even mashed-up cardboard. Then you will have to let it wait a while to colonize the coffee grounds. Make sure your humidity is correct and growing conditions are good and you will get a ton of oysters popping out of the 5-gallon container.

Is anyone trying to market the Scarlet Elf cap? I've only tried them raw and thought they tasted somewhat like a radish. Heard there are medicinal properties but haven't found indepth recent information. I only find them shortly after snow clears in valleys although I'm sure others find them elsewhere.

I have a VERY beginner question. Why can't you brake up the spent blocks and reincorporate it back into a new block with the same mycelium? Just float a piece about 1/8 the size in the middle of the new unicorn bag.

Do you use bleach spray in a room with growing mushrooms. I would think the fumes from the bleach would harm the mushrooms growing in the room!

Nah, they're fine. Some people spray bleach water directly on mushrooms to prevent blotch. I don't like that practice so much, but the mushrooms in the room are fine with just the bleach fumes
