Is there a good substitute for soy hulls to make Masters mix. I live on the island of Hawaii and no one sells soy hulls out here and to get them out here involves astronomical shipping prices
There are quite a few. Wheat bran, oat hulls, rice hulls, etc.
@@Mossycreekmushroomsofficial thanks for quick response!
Great technique and nice camera work. The first time I did a needle biopsy with a fruit, I never imagined such a small piece of tissue could grow so well...or at all! I just have to remember to let the flamed needle (if not straight out of packaging) cool down ;) Love that smash and twist tip. With fruit, I do a stab, twist, and then straight back out. I just imagine a drill bit in my head since it's so hard to see what the hell is actually happening at that needle tip.
LOve it!
Looks really good!!
Thank you!
Much needed knowledge...Thank You!
Andy, hey brother. My business partner and I just purchased two 10x10 grow tents and the ventilation systems. In early 2000's I was part of Mushroom Science Laboratories in Kennet Square Pa. I developed methods of substrate running and fruiting that brought shiitake farming to 4 weeks spawn to fruit. We had specially formulated substrates but they were a lot less expensive back then. The owners sold the company to Campbell's soup and I went back to school for my Master's and PhD in chemical Engineering. I am completely sick and tired of the work environment and decided to start growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. We will probably film the building of the business. I have a High Pressure liquid Chromatograph, A Buchi Rotary evaporator apparatus and a nice supply of glassware that should help with extractions. I am In Pa but our business will be in Delaware. That is where my friend's farm is. I have some great ideas that O am going to try out and if they work they should transform the spawn and spawn running parts. They could fail miserably however ....Last week I got food poisoning from WAWA and I am still getting over it. I was hit by an F350 on my 1957 Harley Panhead and had my right leg nearly crushed in two. I crawled up the driveway feeling like I was drowning. The surgeons said I had the largest blood clot they had seen in 30 years. It broke loose and went to my heart and lungs. I am finally back on my feet again. I was compete in in classic physique bodybuilding when that happened and since I was laid up I gained over 100 pounds and turned into a f@t sh!t. I lost 50 pounds so far but I have a bunch to go. Since the food poisoning I decided to make my own lunchmeat and because I do not eat bread anymore I am going to eat tortillas. I know you can relate. I was looking for a meat slicer on Facebook and found a guy who just closed his deli and said if I buy his slicer he will throw in the grinder and the meat scale also. I am so psyched. The mushrooms and my own sliced meats for the family will be so much more healthy!! We need to talk sometime. I'll try giving you a call if I can find your number. God Bless and keep up the great work!!!
That’s really interesting. Could you maybe explain part of the process you went through in reducing the shiitake spawn to fruit time?
Get a peristaltic pump and hook it up to the jars so you can use the drench gun continuously.
Where are you based at? Because it's raining crazy in India as well. Monsoon's there good for sweet little mushrooms.
East Tennessee in the United States
@@Mossycreekmushroomsofficial good sir
Awesome, more farm visits please!
We've got more planned in the nearish future!
Will this work with warm strains? Like the almond mushroom.
Yes, I just keep them on the shelf at room temp instead of near freezing.
@@Mossycreekmushroomsofficial thank you
Stop growing mushrooms in plastic compostable bags are similar price and your not fucking up the earth
There are no compostable mushroom grow bags on the market. Only oxo degradable. Which are worse than what I'm using.
So beautiful!!!
Are you still using straw pellets for oysters 3 years later?
No, I'm using hardwood fuel pellets again. They're just easier to get.
Would it be possible to get spawn to sweden?
Probably not spawn, but we can ship cultures to Sweden for sure.
Fascinating chat. They use Rhizopus for Tempeh though, not Neurospora ;)
Thank you ❤
Is that grain or pellets?
Andy, Another great video. You asked all the right questions and showed the best parts of Joe's operation. I wonder if there is a wood that can impart a nice smokey or even a sweet flavor or something interesting....
Beautiful 😍
How are you prepping this? Like how are you hydrating?
How much do you put in the bag for your lions mane? Ive got 3 different sized bags and weights to see what it likes better but a bit would help. ✌️
Incredible! Have you harvested Tremela before? I'm about to acquire your strains and it would be great knowing which is the substrate you find better for the species. Thank you! All this content is amazing.
@jlg284 I've harvested it in the wild but I've never grown it before.
Hello, i like to learn things, and i can tell u that mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide (CO2) because it's a key indicator of a potential host. When we breathe, we exhale CO2, and mosquitoes have specialized receptors that can detect this gas from a distance. CO2 signals the presence of a warm-blooded animal or human, which is a likely source of blood for the mosquito to feed on. This evolutionary trait helps them find their hosts more effectively 🎉
@Shame3246 thank you for that break down.
@@Mossycreekmushroomsofficial the actual on sell machines that use propane to generate c02 and then capture the them in a bag. I’d get softball sized clumps after a week.
You've helped me start my business here in New Mexico thank you so much!
@@mikaylaguiles excellent!
Is there anyone close to New Mexico for spawn I ordered from west Virginia an it was not shipped well enough
@@mikaylaguiles were shipping all over the country right now. Insulated and cold packed. You might give our shop a call!?
guys what can i do if my little babies are to moistured? is there a way to fix it?
Remember Andrew a good pirate never steals
Wow. Thank you SO much.
Good luck on the hunt
Thank you!
You are the Jamacan bobsled team of bag inoculation in my book 😎🤙
Ya Mon 😂
I love that vertical bag sealer!! Also great to see the rhythm of shaking inoculum into the fruiting blocks 😀
Thank you guys!
Try LC to your beard
Damn that's dope as fuck
The ship looks so clean and professional
That vertical bag sealer is just pure brilliancy. shows how even the smallest, seemingly unimportant aspects can add so much to efficiency and work flow.. keep inspiring ❤
I just recently received a free syringe of pathfinder from mycelium emporium. Im looking forward to growing it
I don’t care about mushrooms I’m 12
Will you let anyone buy the spores for one of those?
My favorite places...Clearwater ,Tampa, St.Petersburg!!! I went to many years of school in Tampa running out to the beach at 3pm every day. Sometimes I wonder how I got a Master's and PhD in Biochemistry with all the fun times. Zephyr Gills is such an awesome name. Thank you for bringing these awesome videos to us.
I have a friend that wants to start growing shiitake and we need to speak about spawn or ready to fruit blocks...
Hey Andrew!! I actually started a company in the early 2000's that did mushroom genetics and testing called Mushroom Science Laboratories here in Pennsylvania in Kennet Square. We got to a point where we would have to get much bigger or sell the company and have someone else put money into it. My two partners decided to sell to Campbell's soup and I started a lab myself that quickly got too big and I could not find any good help. I went back to school for chemic al engineering and with a PhD in biochemistry I definitely want to get back into mushrooms and mushroom growing. At one time we had the largest culture library in North America. I would like to go back to that life and I am starting a new lab. Thank you for the inspiration!! We need to get together sometime and sit on the poach and drink some lemonade.
That poor mycelium. Outsourcing a spiritual ritual to a machine seems very disrespectful. If it weren't for fungi, humans and consciousness itself wouldn't exist. The least you can do is gently shake the bag with peaceful intentions. I might sound like a hippie but I guarantee you that yields and potency would be far superior to machine shaken mycelium.
What is the machine you are using to fill the bags?
Found it in the other vids!
moisture content your using pellets they soak up mosture?
What are these mushrooms typically used for
Hey man! Great video - I'm currently using my friend's spent mushroom substrate to build the soil in a food forest - but would love to use it for our veggies. How long did you let the substrate break down for? And would you suggest letting it break down in blocks over in a loose pile?
What sterilizer you running?
Hi sir, how many flushes per block do you get?
Millions and millions
Keep spawning!
I bet the fellas have a hard time keeping up with Sam. She probably runs circles around everyone
She's probably the only one that works from what the videos always show, it's sad when I always see her working and everyone else is either running the camera or chillaxin. Promote Sam to the camera and see how much work gets done 😆
What's the first scoop sunflower? And soaked grain does the sunflower soak up and bottom liquid?
Hardwood fuel pellets and they are to soak up the excess liquid.
I was wondering the same thing... What's up mush fam@@Mossycreekmushroomsofficial
