Groundstrokes Tip: The Right Distance & Good Contact
Спорт
Contact is the moment of truth on your groundstrokes and therefore getting it right is crucial.
What most players don’t know is that good contact depends a lot on having the right distance to the ball.
In our clinics we see that a lot of players get too close to the ball especially when the ball comes right at them and as a result they can't hit with power.
In this video OTI Instructor Nadim Naser gives you a very practical guideline for optimizing your distance to the ball so that you can have a great contact point and hit with lots of power!

You can use the non-dominant arm as a guage of how far away from your body the ball should be.
Super helpful. Well done! Since I started concentrating on giving my arm room to swing and contacting the ball out in front of myself everything got easier.
Excellent! Great advice! Thank you!
very helpful. after watching your video, I started working on this inside-out motion. It still needs practice but I already noticed some power and consistency improvement. thank you.
Very helpful tips. Many thanks!
Wonderful! I shall work in this direction...
Good tip, would also like to see a one-handed backhand demo. Thanks.
Good stuff. When and if you do the backhand (1 and 2) videos. Can you please demonstrate what this drill looks like going cross court and down the line, please?
Thank you, coach, you are the first man, who explained it clearly to me!

Say the same. The only one..There is another tip of others coach that mention the 45° degree angle with your hip but wasn't fully succesful when in court because was something else missing to feel it. Coach Nadim gets to it connecting the back foot or leg diagonally with the buttcap so that you have this key reference every time to create confortable inside out space to rip any kind of ball. Great!!!
Great explanation and demonstration
Thank you very much!!!
Great stuff Nadim. After attending your clinic is San Francisco I recently found myself slipping back to my old habit of not giving myself enough space - and I couldn't figure out why my forehand was breaking down.
Thank you very much for your tips! Chung- Vietnam
right ear loved it!
Liked it. Wonder if a behind camera view would help getting the concept?
- Thanks!
Coach Nadim, I am an NTRP 4.0 player and this video on positioning was exactly what I needed. Injured my middle finger on my right hand over a year ago. The pro that I was hitting with at the time suggested that I switch my grip from eastern to semi-western which was better for my hand recovery band for my game. I struggled with spacing both not hitting far enough out front on my forehand and the ball was too close to my body. This will work wonders for my game. I have a one handed backhand and do not struggle with much on the backhand side as much. I would be open to this spacing demonstration for the one handed and two-handed. What I would like to learn from you is the forehand swing path with a semi-western grip. Please consider creating this video or if you already have please direct me to it. Lastly, if we want to hit with you here in the states can you please share how we contact you to discuss that. You are one of the best teaching professionals that have ever learned frim via KZread. Your are able to make the complex very simple, straight forward. and practical. Thanks much!
Hi, Good advice, however, i think a rear view of the technique i.e .the "diagonal line" would help with the visualisation better.
Good job))
Excellent guidepoints, Nadim! You did mention that the same diagonal relationship holds for the backhand. Did you mean just the backhand slice or want to include the backhand slice? I would guess that this does not work for the slice because the swing path is not inside out. Come to think of it, the same question applies to the forehand slice.
Nadim thanks - how do you adjust for a situation where you are hitting crosscourt instead of down the line?
I’d like to see it on the backhand too. 2hbh and maybe 1hbh Slice. Thanks!
Do you still have an inside out swing path for hitting high short balls and for return of serve?
Good 👍👍👍
one handed backhand demo please
Can you have your elbow a little closer to the body and still have proper technique/distance?
Even when hitting down the middle, cross court or down the line the stroke should be inside out is my understanding. My friends say inside out is just for cross court (right handed FH from left side of court to right corner) Plz explain difference in execute and/or terminology. You the best Nadim.

If you imagine a beach ball in front of you, would this help to hit inside out? thx!
interesting I often put my front leg too much in front and beyond my trailing foot.
Are you planning to have clinics in Denver CO....?
How about serve ?
👍on the forehand, using the non hitting arm as a marker to point out diagonally in front would help with this exercise. Roger is the best example of this on the tour.
1 handed backhand pls, too
I understand a parallel or a right angle line but a diagonal line from the back foot to the racquet doesn't explain the situation well enough for me. When you say "diagonally" that could be at any angle....and that is not what you want
It can't be more confusing TO ME. Firstly, what do you understand under the term "inside out". Inside of what and out of what? Secondly, what does it mean "diagonal"? It is always diagonal with the exception when the ball catches you completely in your front (let say at belly button). Thus "diagonal" mean what - 45 deg to normal or to the base line. So 60 deg is diagonal or not and where to measure it? When you demonstrate your play it looks beautiful and I "feel" this is right point however I (guess) I can play "diagonal" and it will look and be terrible. E.G. golfers have very strict "rules" what, where and how certain angles shall be exercised.
Re the backhand: yes, please.
with the inside out path on forehand what part of the ball(clock) are you aiming for? thanks Barry Great vid much appreciated
