How to hit every tennis ball in your strike zone with a great contact point

Спорт

In this video, I'm sharing drills that teach you how to judge incoming tennis balls. There are no two balls the same when you rally and you have to adjust accordingly with your footwork to keep the tennis ball in your strike zone. Use the same drills I do with my clients to work on perception and balance in order to hit a clean ball every time.

Hi. The most challenging part of my stroke-production is footwork. Whenever my footwork is on-point, I get to the ball and able to hit at my point-of-contact, and my shot is either a winner or my opponent hits a weak shot back to me, and I can go in for the kill by a volley or a ground-stroke winner. I can only get point-of-contact about 4:10. It’s really tough work. I really appreciate players like you, a former WTA touring pro, and existing WTA and ATP players on the circuit today. So, I’m working on my foot-work, and I’m on a strict conditioning program and cross-training program; because, my new footwork goals pushes my stamina to new levels - your ability to hit the way you do truly amazes me - you make it look so easy and effortless - you’re a truly professional. Thanks for the awesome lessons. /s/ Alfonso Faustino

Hi. This is the BEST piece of information I received in my entire tennis journey. This was the missing link for me; you are amazing - THANK YOU for this key piece of information! I applied it today, 6-Feb-2023, and my results were amazing…I took it slow, and I reduced my swing speed in order to execute. Once I establish consistency and train my eyes to recognize the ball and itts placement, I can speed up. You’re amazing!!! /s/ Alfonso Faustino

I played a lot of organized baseball before I played tennis. Had thousands of ground balls hit and learned to move my feet to adjust. Great crossover skills for tennis. My tennis coach always talked about getting the ball in my “ Wheel House” and using my feet. I watched lot of Jimmy Connors back in my day when I was learning to play. He took lots of little steps to adjust to the bounce.

I love this one! One of the last things to come back after a layoff of playing, ball judgement… especially with spacing between me and the ball. I’ll often times jam myself. After a few practices, it realigns. Thanks for the tips Meike!

This is what I’ve always been curious about - the importance of moving forward and back to get the ball in the strike zone. I’ve been doing it wrong - not moving and instead, trying to get better at high balls.

Awesome, please let me know how it went. I know that some adults don't like to use "green dot" balls so I always tell them that they're high intensity balls bc players get so many more balls. Let them use their apple watches to monitor heart rates and steps and usually that convinces them to use green dots :-)

Your hip comes forward but not with a lot of leg drive. I watched Patricks video on forehand where he taught throw your hand at the ball, almost like once you are in the loading phase you should lead with your hand thrown at the ball. I am looking to get more leg drive to initiate swing, I have a loose grip in a strong eastern almost semi. When I try to start swing with back leg, ball goes long as I have not used my legs for too long. When I lead with hand foot comes forward but secondary.. Iam 60 years old, play a lot, 4.0 level.

Coach Meike, what’s the right or optimal contact point? If I think of it as in a x-y-z domain w.r.t. our body, you have mentioned the height (z domain) is between shoulder and waist. How about the other two domains? How far right to the body for a right hander? And how in front of the body is optimal? We often hear coaches yelled don’t hit too close( or too far) but I don’t see any videos clarify this. 🙏🎾
