The sandbox started out as such a nightmare. It had been so long in this game that I felt so weak. Now I live there! 😀

For me its much easier with a crossbow. You just walk in a circle and shoot them. Flawless victory.

Great video! I rolled in with ladybug armor, black ant sword & shield, & the crossbow. It's also effective to rifle arrows at the ground antlions with sharpshooter & the Marksman cap. Level 7 salty Antlion greatsword can take them down in 4 hits with Coup de Grass. Overpowered weapon! 👊

This first antlion got me so many times I can't even count. He not only spawns on the plastic but follows me to the top of the sandbox. I died so many times.

I once had two of them pop out up there by the zipline. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Around 1240 the reason you got stunned was the shield durability. The more damage a mob does it builds that shield bar up and it starts to warn you when it’s close to stunning. Once the bar fills it stuns you then resets its so you cant just shield block constantly and be safe.

I got up to the sandbox last night and decided "I won't go in yet, l'll just stand the edge and get a look!". In the exact spot where you fought the antlion on the edge of the sandbox. It jumped me, almost killed me, and I leapt off the sandbox and floated to safety. REALLY didn't expect it to dig out of the plastic at me!

Yea it happens a lot, I found it you lead it to a dead end and jump off back the plastic you can cheese the antlion

I made a lid for the sandbox with grass planks though I left a gap the length of the lid every other plank so the treasure is easier to spot this makes the day sizzling stat so easy to deal with

Still remember the first time I was in the sandbox. For some reson I was in the black ant lab first. I managed the get the sandbox exit in the night and I only heard the antlions pop out of the sand while running away which scared the shit out of me.

lol i had forgotten all about these little critters until i saw this in grounded. When i was a kid at my grandparents, under one of their no walled garages there is dozens and dozens of little pits.. we would take a tiny stick or piece of grass and slowly fidget it around. These little guys would pop out the sandy dirt and try and grab the stick good times-

hi im a new player, ive been playing the game for a week, ive found the best way to kill the antlions really really early is with a bow or crossbow. after you get 7 pincers and make the antlion sword you can just destroy them. (i did this in red ant armor) and no, i wasnt on the easiest difficulty.

Another way to kill them is by pelting them with arrows from an elevated spot. If it starts running go on the sand to make it come back. This works best at night.

Also if you stand in the water they will run away, then step out of the water to get them back on you, and then back in the water, and while you do this just shoot them with arrows

I tried to cheese an antlion a couple days ago, I did have the right gear. I ran down the stairs that I built up the sandbox. The antlion did the burrow attack and ended up on the ground below the sandbox. Last time I checked I have to loose antlions roaming the backyard.

Mum Genes can really help. Esp if the Ant Lion changes aggro to the spiderlings

Also learned using a combo of aphid shoes n upgraded eyepatch crossbow n mutations for crossbow and ant damage

What really bugs me (pun intended) is that whenever you can actually make salt weapons there isnt a point in it anymore since you are already past the enemies that have it as a weakness.

yeah, same with the mint mallet. They screwed themselves, it was better when you could do it early game, that worked.

By the time I got to the sandbox, I had 3/3 fresh defence and a black ant sword, and I found that the wandering ant lions are easy to parry so I just farmed them for an hour and got the ant lion huge sword.

I use the roly poly armor, Fresh Defense, Meat Shield, Mom Genes, etc and go in swinging with the Broodmother club or the Mint club. The sandbox pit antlions are easier to beat as you can get right within attack range (also using their giant shadow to keep from sizzling) and time your attacks quite well. The Mom Genes spiderlings are lifesavers in distracting them while you recharge your stamina to attack again and finish them off swiftly 💪🏻

somewhere around 4:00 pm (16:00) sun is setting right behind fence, so you wont sizzle no more just after getting onto sand

I’ve found that a level 5 stinger spear works well especially when in combination with the mom genes mutation. The distraction from the spiderlings makes the fight super easy.

Apparently fresh defense mutation will give you protection from sizzling status effect, have yet to test it but it says it does

yeh it just means you can stand in the sun longer, it doesn't actually stop you from sizzling at max rank. I think I read it was something like 50% protection from sizzling but im not 100% on that number.

If you wear the antlion armour and use the fresh perk at rank 3 the sizzling increase is barely noticeable You need to eat the mint to increase the rank ( I think 10 mint is rank 3 )

It is decent enough to allow traversing the sands but you will still be keeping an eye on the nearest shade spot but it is far better than with no antlion gear. The best way I found to utilize it is to mix your gear if you have trouble with getting hit in the sands. For example you can put on the lion hat and the rest rolli gear with the fresh mutation and you have plenty of time to be running around out in the sun as well as battling in it. Eating 11 mints is no big deal, even more at this stage of development as not much has a large weakness to mint effects yet, those are coming later.

another tip for most enemies this isn't 100%,, is circle the enemy sometimes they will attack your location and you can just circle them with little to no threat of being hit but other times they will directly attack you no matter how fast you circle them.

do the salt clusters in the antlion cave respawn?

Stay toward the door that you need to open that's about the only area of the room where you don't get hit my the lightening things and dogdeing the lasers aren't to hard once you aren't worried about the blue lasers. And I recommend having one of you tank with a shield and sword while the other stays back and uses the bow or crossbow to constantly shoot the boss. That's what me and my homie did to beat him after losing 2 times.

@@boxall4153 I have a different perspective that worked for me. Stay in the center of the room circling with the lasers, kill all the minions quick then you only need to deal with the boss. After killing the minions remain in the center circling with the lasers and every time you circle beat the absolute crap out of the boss. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the laser rotation, if you get lazy they'll kill you but if you're paying attention and don't stray from the center of the room it's an easy fight.

antlions are pretty easy to parry when their is a group though you have to get high and use a crossbow/insect bow

Make them follow you to the pond by the Analyzer and they will stay agro and shoot away with a cross bow

I mean there’s three ways to get in the sandbox, if you go behind it you can parkour up a weed and some grass until you’re right above the juice box then jump up onto the sandbox that’s the way I’ve always gone

The ones in the pit i just use sharpshooter mutation and crossbow+5 (normal arrows). About 12 shots and it dies. The ones that just pop up......i run. Except for the ones in caves. I need the salt. So i just hope my arrows stagger/slow/cripple them while walking backwards. Sometimes if they are low hp and i think i can block perfectly I'll block and use mint mallet+5 to finish it. But one hit and i die. So its a risk reward thing. (I had a crow marksman hat but with the update i lost that and my pet aphid )

@@iliavelichkov9318 a tip i just leaned. Dont fully upgrade the mint mallet right away. I never noticed but each upgrade fully repairs it. So you dont need to hunt for mint pieces for that...until you get to +5 or 6 where its needed for the minty upgrade. I only notice the free repair on my last 2 quartsite upgrades on it. Now it is almost broke and i cant find mint pieces

@@darkdraco02 the little canyons inside the haze, they are new, and we are talking about the big boy anthill (red) and theres a hole you drop in with the red anthill chip and a respanwable mint

roaming ant lions only have two attacks. You can parry them if you pay attention

Bruh the amount of stuff I get when compared to much parts it takes to actually craft their associated armor and sword is just… like wtf? Why does the armor and sword require so many pieces when they hardly drop any parts?!

I just use my crossbow. Same with the ones that spawn inside the holes. All you have to do is back up the hill to a certain point and they stop perusing. Go back in shoot, go back out shoot rinse and repeat. Best part about the crossbow is it doesnt wear out.

I just spam jump while crying.

Use the gravity gun

I have yet to come across an enemy in this game that I can't just destroy with the mint mace. I currently have it at lvl 5 and just wreck everything. It takes a lot of patience to learn the stamina timing with the clubs but its worth it for the crazy damage and super high stun rate. throw coup de grass in there as well and almost everything is a 6 or 7 hit kill. I can't imagine how much damage it's gonna do at max lvl

What difficulty are you playing on? Also once you get the tier 3 weapons the game becomes much, much easier. The Antlion Greatsword and Club of the Mother Demon will wreck most things.

@@MediocreMilton I'm only on medium difficulty granted. I recently just tried the antlion great sword and I agree that it's a super powerful weapon. I'm actually going to level that up next just to have something different than a club. I've been running the mint mace since the start of my save. I plan on having a weapon of each mod type so I'm ready for anything when I'm out and about. Just takes a while to make all this quartzite globs. They really could speed up the oven a bit I think lol

@@thisismelsemail1217 make a second oven. Starting by burgl then going thru the smaller ant cave you can mine close to or over 100 quartzite shards per run. Also a ton in the haze area

@@ItIsEyeSaysMe getting quartzite isn't the issue. It's the fact that it takes every bit of 10-15 real world minutes to make globs. Adding a 2nd oven isn't going to solve the issue. That just allows me to make more at a time which is better of course, just not what I'm annoyed about. It is really aggravating when I have to sit there for 10 minutes to wait for meals to make before I go on an expedition. It's gotten to the point where I don't even use the meals anymore because they take too long. I just make sure I leave with materials to make a roasting pit and kill weevils and aphids while I'm out and about. The meals were a great idea just very poorly executed

The easiest way to fight them is a technique called "Getting good" "Getting good" requires to learn and master the parry mechanic, as well to learn and master how to block cancel attack animations and learning to properly maintain your stamina. That is about all besides having good weapons, armor, the right mutations and of course smoothies for healing.

You don't need to perfect block the Antlions in the holes because you can stand right against them and they can't hit you. The shield also blocks their attacks so the only benefit of perfect blocking is saving durability on your shield.

It's a game changer when you have insect bow or crow crossbow. Sometimes it seems to do more damage aiming at their face/eyes. What I do in areas I need to cross often (at the wooden post grasslands/pond border with all the orb weavers or around bombardier beetle lairs): build a half wall fence around them from a safe distance,. It mostly will take a few attempts if they wake up and chase you, but you can always shake them, return and continue. From the other side of this fence you can easily shoot them like fish in a barrel, as they can't flee out of range. With the spiders that move around more, it'll take multiple squares so you can jump the fence and they can't follow, but I'm making a grid so I'll be safe from different directions and spawn areas. I once had 6 orb weavers surrounding me, I never want to get into that again ;) .

Still works just use the shield if you can’t figure out how to get in the right spot. I use the Salt Morningstar against them.
