Ahhhh, I love these types of videos. I've watched your other ground station video like 20 times. I got wiring ideas from that video. I want to get one of these pepper boxes too and yea it sucks that the only diversity receiver is that clearview one. I don't understand why eagletree went out of business. That eagle eye system was, and still is, a great feature for diversity. I have one eagle eye box that will control my 2 1.3ghz rx's, the same ones you have. I am currently looking for another eagle eye box to control 2 5.8 rx's whenever I fly 5.8. Maybe one day I'll buy that expensive gatling patch! LOL!!! Well Adam once again a great informative video! Looking forward to more greatness! Cheers!

Fantastic insight of your excellent selection of gear Adam! Shame about the Diversity Demon as he outperforms the Eagle Eye by miles. The CV's true magic comes in combining 2 pictures into 1 good one - unlike the other two. Ideally you use two identical antennas on the CV. However it can be used as a classy diversity box but it's like using a Porsche to pull a trailer :)
@AdamGdoesFPV

Hi Stuwe, I did read that the Demon was a lot better than the Eagle eyes which is why like you I made the decision to spend the extra cash on it :) My guess is you might have also tried the Eagle eyes? Yes the clearview's primary mode is as you say to blend the 2 pictures with 2 of the same antennas being used, which in some cases may work well, for example if you were someone with 2 x TrueRC Gatlings😁 but my guess is that the majority fo people want to use 'traditional' diversity allowing for different antennas to be used. My friend emailed the clearview guys a few weeks back to confirm that the CV does in fact have a traditional diversity mode. I'd love to see the results of using it both ways. Maybe we will plug both mine and Sam's pepperboxes into it one day and see what happens 😎 Thanks for watching and commenting!
@stuweFPV
2 жыл бұрын
@@AdamGdoesFPV Yes the CV works in both ways and is to my knowledge the only Rx with -103dBm. So that alone should outperform anybody else. Still I feel using a CV just for diversity purposes is a bit a shame only because we have no alternatives anymore.. Besides you're frequency bound. The beauty of the Demon is the independence of the frequency and the 3 inputs! I could use a 4th or even a 5th input :) Shame that nobody like i.e. TBS picked up where Oracle left off. There is surely a demand for that and it only increases safety and options of fpv flying.. Can't wait to watch your CV review down to the bone!

Hi Sarah. Yes he purchased one last year and it took a very long time for the company to build and send (I think approx 4 months between ordering and receiving it). To start with it wasn't in a very good state, connectors were hanging off it and there were shorts. My friend is pretty smart with electronics and was able to repair issues with it. When performing test flights he was getting terrible range and having multiple problems with it. We even recorded the same flight on both of our GS's and his turned to snow when mine was still getting a perfect signal. The story on this one is quite long but in the end he swapped out the XLR for RMRC and eagle eyes diversity and picture was perfect... so the XLR was eventually sent back for a refund in the last couple of weeks. Not good results for a very expensive bit of kit.

Hey mate, that’s a shame, I’ve never had any issues with the Partom and it’s completely stock, no mods. On an omni on Partom I can go 7km at low altitude with clear picture and if I go beyond that I’m normally switching to the directional. RMRC are my favourite rx though

Very nice video, i was wondering if the long coax cable from the pepperbox to the receiver decreases performance, it could be shorter and performance might be better? The eagle eyes is for sale occasionally, a buddy of mine quit the hobby and sold all his gear, so i was lucky to get a RMRC receiver, a sturdy tripod, the eagle eyes unit and a VAS helical for pocket money.
@AdamGdoesFPV

Thanks Herman :) Yeah the coax is longer than it needs to be but It was the one that came with it. Alex G who designed this really knows his stuff so I'd be interested to hear if he thinks there would be any benefit to using a shorter length there. Yeah you can pick units up second hand occasionally, you were one of the lucky ones to get your hands on the gear by the sounds of it! Cheers

Great video with brilliant explanation! Question: do you think 5G8 will work for a FPV Plane with ranges from 1km up to 5km? Thanks in advance!
@AdamGdoesFPV
Жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad it was useful. 5.8g to 5km is definitely achievable. Flying far on 5.8g requires a lot more altitude that 1.3G which is why I never like it much. However, if you go 5.8g digital with something like DJI you can fly 5km + with ease at much lower altitude.
My 1.3ghz pepperbox xtreme showed up today, I want to setup mine like yours, is the receivers and repeater all hot glued to the pepperbox or did you use some screws? I would like to have 3s battery for repeater mounted on there too but haven't figured out how to mount it yet? Thanks for video
@AdamGdoesFPV
8 ай бұрын
Hi, No i didn't use any screws, I'd avoid that as you may damage the antenna. I used hot glue for everything. Cheers
On paper, the Pepperbox is better than the TrueRC. In fact, it looks like the Pepperbox might be superior, even though it's half the price. Any thoughts?
@AdamGdoesFPV
Жыл бұрын
For 95% of people and for 99% of any flights the Pepperbox will be the better option and the one most people use. It has a wider beam width and has enough gain to take you as far as you ever need to go in terms of range. And then there’s the price, it’s super cheap compared to the Gatling. However, if you want to push the boundaries and get the max performance you can get, the Gatling is the one to use. I only ever use it on rare occasions for super low runs where I will be flying behind trees, land and other objects. Cheers
How well does 1.3G penetrate mountains? Can you fly behind? If you have any information about this, please share.

@AdamGdoesFPV
2 жыл бұрын
Hard to say the max range of an antenna, it depends on so many factors, the antenna is just part of it. In theory the Peppebox will have a longer range than the X-Air as it has a higher gain. Choose your antenna based on your flying style. Look into the beam width, size, will it be on a tracker etc etc. I've seen someone go 100km on a X-Air before on a FB group, but most people don't want to go even half as far as that... or they think they do until they actually start flying.

Hi, the only 2 things I can think might be causing this: 1: no control link. Can you confirm link is good? Move control surfaces etc 2: Have you adjusted rates? Using low rates can stop it from being possible access launch mode. When you move the stick to the side does it show the msg that is something like "set chn 5 high for Launch"?
