Ground Report : Old Delhi Living Heritage

A documentary on the Havelis of Old Delhi, which has stood for more than 200 years as timeless beauty and repository of Delhi’s culture and tradition. While some of the havelis have been restored, some are still surviving as a narrative of neglect and a spiral of urban overgrowth. In this documentary we also speak to those people who have been working to conserve these old structures and infuse life into these spaces just like they were in the good old times.

Really painful to see so many beautiful and old structures that speak of the indian culture have been torn down in the name of development. I wish the indian conservatory society in conjunction with the tourism dept would help develop these beautiful old buildings for future generations

You need to take a look at the massive programme of restoration that has taken place in the Moroccan medinas of Fez and Marrakech. Many of the Riads and Dars are directly comparable architecturally to the Havelis, and the traditional building methods are the same. Yes many have become upmarket boutique hotels, but they have revitalised the Medinas.

Can we go visit the haveli just to explore and not to stay in hotel rooms? If yes, what's the ticket price, weekdays and timing for the same?

Mashallah Very well restored. If not already in place, a detailed history chart of occupants and owners might be interesting reading for visitors. Your friends across the border can learn a few lessons here about tasteful renovation and upkeep of historic places.

Chandni chowk elite attitude must die if India needs to live in its true essence..! Decentralisation is the only way forward & in a country where 5 crore families havn't seen electricity must spent its resources prudently. If can't afford than don't hold! But please don't waste hard earned tax payers money on such things because people are more important than so-called cultural havelis. This country sincerely needs to invest in human development(healtcare & education) & rest would follow itself...
