Grooming Series: Bedtime Brushout

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Brushing out Winnie's hair before bedtime has become a daily ritual in the past year or so for us. I find that it makes her longer morning grooming sessions much more manageable. Her bedtime brush out is much less involved and including tooth brushing time only takes 10 minutes or less. I find that brushing her teeth like this on a daily basis helps keep her breathe smelling good and wards off plaque build-up, which is just as important for dogs as it is for humans.

I am sooo sorry for your loss Joyce. I had a Shih tuz for 15 years. She was blind and couldn't hear anymore. She was my baby. We took her everywhere. I swore I wouldn't get another one, but four years later I got Lucy. She filled the empty hole in my heart. I will always miss my Elizabeth.

When you are combing her, you should start from the ends up. It prevents tearing and doesn't hurt the dog as much.

just like human hair, you start from the bottom up to loosen as many knots as possible before brushing from the root. starting from the root can bunch up knots and cause the hair to stretch and rip.

I think there's a bit of a feeling that her dog is a toy. I mean, she grew her hair that long and outs bows in. She doesn't seem terribly mean though so in the grander scheme, I think it's ok. I definitely grabbed my shih tzu and had to love him up after feeling so bad for this little guy. :( I'm sure the dog's like, "just let me be!" And a shorter cut with less maintenance and trauma is always best.

My little Sara is the same she is so well behaved during her grooming it takes a long time to train a shih tzu to lay still for hr grooming time it took me 7 months before she settled down and I just had to preserver till she grew up and in the mean time it was a lot of sweat and frustration but she is so good now. she is 9 yes. old and so sweet. my other shih tzu was always very Co operative right from the beginning I never had to make him lay down for his grooming he just did right from a pup

My girlfriend owns a beautiful 2 Y.O. female Border collie. Iove that dog so much... One of the things she enjoys the most is when we brush and comb her... she looks so pretty and she really enjoys it... on the other hand, its obvious that this poor dog suffers a hell on this process.... TWICE A DAY!... its obvious thta she is in a lot of pain when you comb her face hair... dont you think you should shorten her hair a little in order to make her suffer less?

Ricardo Actually, my dog DOES "tell me" she's in any pain or is uncomfortable through a change in her behavior and stress signals she (and all dogs) will exhibit. Dogs don't "hide" anything.

Charlotte A exactly ... of course. They are living beings. I thought it was common sense. But may be some of us are more attune to thee type of communication which isn't verbal or more obvious to others. I think we can clearly see here that she is in pain or uncomfortable to say the least. And being that is a daily routine she she have been more comfortable and at ease by now.
