My previous "partner" added to the bad condition I was in, for all my life. When finally being able to leave, I understood that he and my mother are so called covert Narcissists. Because of the way my mother openly hated and abused me, my stepfather and his brother were able to sexually abuse me at the age of 12. My Ex knew about it and after understanding that he did all of this intentionally (also with another woman), my childhood trauma came back and hit me badly. I've been able to cope with the abuse and he's re-traumatised me. I'm married to an amazing man now, but I still struggle with intimacy, three years after ending the relationship. Btw: My Ex is a well respected member of a Feminist Organisation for half his life who fights ALL types of abuse, starting even at disrespectful behaviours towards women, but even though I and this other woman testified, they didn't punish or expell him from the activism he uses to lure in women

Do people with schizophrenia who molest children know better? I was told to forgive a male family member that was allowed to abuse me for years . My mother and her family always dismissed me when I told them or downplayed it when he made comments about me in their presence … so I struggled with it internally and felt like I was wrong to feel hurt because he was schizophrenic.. but his disorder made him more aggressive and cruel towards me . I won’t go into details … I just want to know if he was aware that it was wrong bc he would always say he was not going to stop and laugh .,,just really taunted and ruined my childhood and I was honestly embarrassed and humiliated because my mom lived with him and he was doing it and expressing it openly . I can’t really describe how that affected me … bc I go inward and people just don’t seem to understand. It’s hard to live at times bc I don’t feel connected to anything

The problem, btw, is that when it's happening in families, nobody would actually come forward with their suspicion.

Hello Dr Kieliszewski, thank you for this insightful video. Do you have any links to websites which help people notice child grooming? Are their any psych articles you recommend that discuss child groomers and their actions?

I don't have any specific links. But, check out the websites of Stop It Now and the National Coalition to Prevent Child Abuse and Exploitation. They may have the type of information you are looking for.

Grooming isn't always tied to sexual abuse, u can groom people to take advantage of them in a myriad of ways

As an abuse survivor who was in an adolescent treatment center where half of the population was offending teenage boys it seemed to me that a common problem with those boys was not respecting boundaries. I am not saying that all people who violate your boundaries in small ways are offenders but it is a very big red flag to me. If they don't respect your boundaries for small things they might go to on to harm you or your children in worse ways whether it is sexually or something else.

I recently read that a new study shows that a big percentage of abuse is done by a teen to a child or other teen. It needs to be talked about for a few days each year in school. It has to be less taboo to talk about.
