Pretty sure 9mm has been used a few times to stop a bear attack too. I doubt they care much what size the round is, probably aren't very used to being shot at in general.

True, since the Grizzlies in that area not hunted, they have no fear of man. Thanks for watching!

I live in Utah now but I used to live in NW Montana and there are alot of Grizzly / human encounters out where that happened. I talked to alot of people on Grizzly protection handgun recommendations and most I talked to said 10mm, 357 mag, 45acp, 45 Super, 45 Colt. A few years ago (2021?) just a little bit west of this story, a lady was killed by a Gizz in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. We had issues with livestock loss on Finley point on Flathead lake that was suspected Gizz. Grizzly have been spreading out too and alot of people are not aware how far south they are from Yellowstone - they are not too far north from Flaming gorge area in Utah, so who knows in the next few years.... so we keep practicing

Yeah, a lot of Grizzly encounters and issues around that area, need a hunting season so they learn to stay away from man. Thanks for watching!

@@Titan500J I was surprised too. We had two llamas killed and we had Tribal Game biologists come out and they were debating whether it was mountain lion or grizzly. My neighbor to the back of our 16 acres had kept bees for over 10 yrs and he has grizzly on his trail cam. The biologists say they will go out on the point at night but go back to the mountains before daybreak. I used to hear the wolves howling at night in the back mountains off 35 up around Blue Bay

Watch a few videos of bears fighting ----- they inflict massive damage ----- and they KEEP fighting ----- then tell me if you honestly believe a can of "spray" will cause more hurt and damage to stop a bear attack ----- my hats off to the guy he used his brain and didn't fall for all the nonsense.

Bear spray works in some incidents, but plenty of documented charges where the Bear ran through the spray! Thanks for watching!

@@30-06john YES --- bears can run up to 40 Mph -- that's 58 feet per second you'd need a cloud, of bear spray, 58 feet long for it to be in the spray just 1 second ---- got that much in a can? And can it spray 58 feet away? ---- don't think so.

Love the Yaak Valley. 300 pounds sounds light for a grizzly. 357 with 158 gr. Hornaday XTP at around 1400 fps. H110 or AA#9. VERY confident in this load. 👌

Always enjoy your vids. I dont live in bear country but did grow up hunting and outdoors. I cant imagine carrying an auto loader for bear defense, even though I carry one for self defense. Yes I know shot placement.. but I just feel a bear is way more ruthless and unforgiving than a human being. I know manual trans guns are not fool proof either but.. and, look at all the grenading 10mm's that Chuke dinks up.. I just dont know. Thx for your efforts tho!!!

Black Bears can be dangerous too, among other animals like dog packs! Revolver or automatic, as long as one trains and understands how to operate, manipulate and maintain it, is what matters. Thanks for watching!

The cub was taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center, it will be fine. Grizzlies are increasing and expanding habitat in that area. They really need to have a hunting season so the Bears learn to stay away from man. Thanks for watching!

Dogs are a double edged sword they can alert you help fight off a attack but they can also make things worse barking and annoying the bear plus if there's Wolf's around and she is use to protecting her Cub from them she will see you and your dog as a double threat. Bear attacks are a tragedy but we put ourselves in harms way we need to except responsibility for putting ourselves in harms way because I can't blame a mother for protecting her baby and we hurt bears all the time I have a little girl and I will stop at nothing to protect her. This is a sad story a protective mother was killed and now there's a cup with no mother to teach it how to survive and be a successful bear. We need to come up with a better solution because the bears are loosing on both ends with habitat loss and killing.
